Jason Brown

Doris - that early film was adorable. He skates out to start his program and falls on his behind. Too cute. I wonder how old he was there.

Whew - Bookseller, thanks for sort of agreeing with me about Nutcracker. I thought the music was awful for figure skating but beautiful for the ballet. Some music just doesn't lend itself well to skating but I do think Jason made the best of it.

How's everybody doing being pretty stuck in their houses? I haven't been out the door except to get the mail for about 7 days. Family is working from home, had to upgrade the bandwidth on the internet, and granddaughter is taking her college classes online. Quite a situation we're all in but looking at old Jason Youtubes is something to look forward to every day.
 
I do go out for a walk occasionally. I'll have to venture out to shop next week. It's just two of us old folks. All kids are self quarantining in their own homes with various family members. All are out of town, a minimum of an hour away. I watched two movies last weekend. Unheard of for me, except now. Our county has over 500 cases, mostly concentrated in one religious community. So I'm being extra careful. It's going to be a long seige.
 
It is too easy to be frightened, especially because I am alone. New York City is all too close to me here on the Connecticut shore, especially now that our usual summer cottagers are fleeing the virus in the city, and some of them bringing it with them.

TBH Watching old Jason videos is my safe and happy place.
 
Looking at 2012, I see that some of the same programs are cropping up and that as he’s getting more assignments, we have have vids of different comps. I’ll post a couple of those later - still busy writing, darn it! Here to keep you occupied is a teaser:

We just had a stay-at-home order issued for my county, but it changes nothing for me, because I haven't gone anywhere in 2 weeks except for a drive just to get out, or to walk in the neighborhood. Watching skating videos has certainly been helpful in finding a way to spend time. I've been spending part of my daytime hours watching skating and evenings on Netflix/Amazon.

For Dorispulaski: I think that same scenario is playing out upstate as well. Lots of city people have second homes in outlying areas. But there are still not as many confirmed cases upstate as we have. Stay in, wear a mask if you shop, and wash, wash, wash your hands. I will be taking all precautions next week when I go out to a store. Connect electronically with friends and family as much as possible. Very grateful for the Jason retrospective! It's been a wonderful diversion.

My daughters are not far from you and both at home. University closed down, SIL working from home. Other daughter worked in a private cafe in a hospital. She had to plead for a layoff. Within a week of getting an approved layoff, the cafe closed for the duration. She was really stressed out and worried about exposure. Now she's navigating the unemployment system, which is overwhelmed. It is in my state as well. Keep those Jason videos coming! Can't get enough!
 
I have no mask, sad to say, so I am going out very seldom, mostly to put out the trash and get the mail.

That is hilarious! What exhibition is that? He's at least 16 or 17 at that point. He's definitely growing up. That outfit is really fun! So silly!

Even a home made mask of two or three layers of cloth over your nose and mouth would be sufficient protection for most situations.If you don't have cloth, cut up an old shirt or sweatshirt or whatever you have around. It will be washable, which will sanitize it for later use if needed. Make sure it fits snugly and that you can breathe. It's better than nothing. Stay at least 6 or 8 feet from any other person. I was going to make one for myself, but then we found some real respirator masks in my husband's old work stuff. One is still new and in the package. I'll use the gently used ones and they'll be fine. The stores around here have senior hours and they are doing their very best to sanitize everything. I'm only going out for food. Everything non essential is shut down.
 
From what I've gleaned, the most important thing is to wash your hands and never touch your face. I feel like Typhoid Mary because I have allergies and sneeze a lot. Suffice to say I don't go anywhere - I don't want to freak people out if I sneeze. I've seen a lot of people with those nitrile gloves, which is probably a good idea. I've also read that the masks aren't that effective but at this stage you really don't know what to believe. I have to think they are somewhat. Doris - you're not alone! You have us!

I saw Jason do the MC Hammer exhibition in a small show in Oakland, CA. In fact, it's the rink where Alyssa Liu is from. I don't even remember who put it together but Johnny Weir was the headliner, Max was there, some lady skaters I'd never heard of Rickie (whats his last name) and a few others. I think it was called Ice Crystals or something like that.

If I could figure out how to get a picture on my phone to my email so I could post it here I would show you this awesome picture of Jason (my real name is involved but I dont' see that as a problem) The picture was downloaded but is in a weird part of my phone. I'll keep trying.

I have allergies also and had been taking two pills a day to keep me from sneezing. But right now I'm not going anywhere. I could just see the thundering hordes running away from me. My daughter in Colorado says that one layer of cloth is enough for a face mask. They don't offer a lot of protection, but they offer some. Just keep it tight to the face. She's really into this stuff. And wash, wash, wash your hands. And don't touch your face. You are absolutely correct on that. Rickie was probably Dornbush? He was actually sent to GPs in 2014 when Jason only had one assignment. How things change!
 
Unless you have the actual masks they are using in intensive care, face masks generally aren't effective. They may stop you spreading it if you already have coronavirus (prevents droplet transmission) but you can still become infected as your eyes are uncovered. Also face masks can actually increase the amount of times you touch your face as you adjust the mask etc. I work in social care and have currently been redeployed from my usual post into a support worker role and we have face masks but they are to prevent staff potentially passing the virus on to our service users (many of whom have underlying health conditions in addition to their complex needs) rather than stopping us getting it. We are just employing frequent hand washing and good hygeine to the best of our ability (social distancing not really a possibility with our job).
I've just done a string of 12 hour night shifts this week and fair to say I am exhausted. Managed to get myself out when it's been really quiet (so early morning/late evenings) on my days off for a walk/cycle so I can get some exercise in but that's the only other time I am leaving the house except for work. I'm fortunate to live with my parents who are able to go to the supermarket and get everything I need. I have to stay healthy for my service users. I'm also revising for two super important interviews next week so my free-time is very, very limited.

Jason videos are thus very much appreciated for my sleep-deprived and stress-addled brain!!

And yes, Dornbush was in the cast, along with Weir. Also Hannah Miller, Samantha Cesario, ...
