2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

that entire article was based on unfounded claims, biased, and full of speculation. Eteri "discarding" Yulia, or how Alina became Eteri's "favorite" after the Olympics, or Eteri will "move on to her next project" by the end of the year, or the title in itself. Biased, opinionated, and a bunch of claims that have no proof behind them. scuse me while i go barf.

While I appreciate the message she’s trying to deliver and the concerns she’s trying to raise, those all shall be applauded...
And yet.

The title “Russian dolls” alone is beyond gross to me. Paired with “Child factory”, “project” and other derogatory phrases.
I can’t handle a good message, when it’s delivered in this fashion, because it doesn’t even look like a good message anymore.

Even though she says that the problems are widespread, if she has to point a finger, she does so only at Tutberidze. Does she name any other names, at least half as consistently? I don’t understand her, at all. Why do that? And with these kinds of words?

Last time she alluded to Anna having/developing mental issues because of the quads. That the training she’s under is unethical. (Considering she never even had personal encounters with neither the coaches of Sambo-70, nor the skaters)
This time, she definitely went overboard, at least in my opinion.

Kiira has absolutely addressed Americans and others, although not in skating.

But it doesn’t fit in with the agenda of “oh let’s attack Kiira because she is so anti-Russian and she is so prejudiced and she is this and that”. And in order to promote that agenda, mocking Kiira. Oh well.

That does nothing to disprove her statements :disapp:

Nobody here is obliged to disprove anything, it's Kiira who is obliged to prove her allegations are right. It's always the person who blames or accuses someone of something, or states that something exists, to give the evidence and support the claims, not the other way around.

Kiira has never offered any proof of her claims besides her own impressions, subjective opinions and taste and besides the attitude "we all know they're just bad".

Like many people here, I like and adore those Russian skaters, particularly the Eteri girls. I see in them good sportsmanship, the Olympic spirt, as well as personality development unfolding in front of us. Do some of you watch them like watching your daughters growing?

It is indeed sad, not because those girls need to do tough training, but because there are always some "fake" experts, who pretend to be really caring for the health and well being of those girls, but actually have their own agenda. Has this Korpi ever made any constructive suggestions?

Tatyana Tarasova just made some comments (google translation):

“I think that it is not necessary to judge so harshly about the work that she does not know. And Kiira Coorpi does not know coaching ..."

"Kiira did not sit even a week at the training with Tutberidze to make such statements. How does she know about the training system? In my opinion, this looks unprofessional. ”

Although I myself don't like TAT that much, I agree with her here.

Well, I also agree with what TallyT said in his post (#22003), that this is part of the life of public figures. We live in a complex world. Coronavirus is a much bigger headache, so I've made up the plan for this weekend: stay home and re-watch Eteri girls' programs.

Alright everybody, take a chill. Let's take a look at the JGP assignments for next season:

In 2019-20, there were 7 girls on the JGP and they all got 2 assignments though Frolova had to be subbed in for KAnysheva/Tarusina last minute (Valieva, Usacheva, Khromykh, Tarakanova, Vasilieva, Frolova, Sinitsyna)

2 spots:
Kamila Valieva, 14, Eteri
Daria Usacheva, 14, Eteri
Maya Khromykh, 14, Eteri
Anna Frolova, 15, Davydov
Sofia Samodelkina, 14, Davydov
Adelya Petrosyan, 14, Eteri
Sofia Muravyova, 13, Eteri

Alt. Elizaveta Osokina, 13, idk the coach but apparently she's from Kazan (like Valieva)
Alt. Varvara Kisel, 13, idk the coach
Alt. Nika Ryabinina, 13, idk the coach

Now there are question mraks because Vasilieva has been injured but she will be moving up to senior, Russia doesn't give JGP to 17 year olds anyways. There is Tarakanova, I hope that they will move her up to at least a challenger because I don't think she is getting a GP assignment or a JGP, assuming she is able to continue skating at a highly competitive level. Muravyova was originally an alternate for junior nationals but got subbed in and finished 9th, right below Frolova, Sinitsyna, and Petrosyan and she's with Eteri now so she's in, probably. What they could do is take their younger talent and try to instead of iving one skater wto spots, becuase they're not going to end up making JGPF anyways, they could split it among two skaters to give them both one spot each.

If all the alternates are used up, then the next ranking order, according to jr nationals and RCF, would be Kamila Sultanmagomedova, who is going to be senior eligible and has not been proven so either she will stop skating (see Kostyuk, Panenkova....) so they might skip over her, and go straight to whoever can win some summer competitions, but Nikol Vaitkus would be next in line according to the results.

This year there were 9 girls invited to test skates, Tarusina pulled out due to injury and then retired not long after. Frolova, the NT alternate, ended up being called in as well and in four months went from jr natoinal team alternate to 6th at senior nationals and youth olympic medalist. This year's roster prospects:

Kamila Valieva
Daria Usacheva
Maya Khromykh
Sofia Samodelkina
Adelya Petrosyan
Anna Frolova
Sofia Muravyova
Elizaveta Osokina

Alt. Varvara Kisel
Alt. Nika Ryabinina
Alt. Anastasia Zinina

I think you nailed it for me.

whole post

Is Kisel still skating for Russia? I thought at one point, she appeared in a Belarussian local competition.

I believe that Ryabinina is coached by Davydov, and didn't Osokina move to CSKA also?

When was the last time Zinina competed? I don't recall having seen her in a while, but I loved her performances at Ice Age Kids.

The biggest problem about Korpi is not about her bias, it's her disrespect.
Using the title of "Russian doll" is a huge insult to these talented, hardworking Russan skaters and their families, it's really disgusting and made me feel uncomfortable.
In her article, she used a lot of humiliating and controversial words and phrases, which showed no respect to Russian people, Russian culture, Russian sportsmen and Russian training system. From her statement, I cannot see any kindness or concerns, I can only see that she wants these girls to fail, to lose, even to get injured.

Interesting, I don't recall having seen Zinina in competition either since late 2018, back then she had 3Lz+3T but that means little in Russia. I do recall Mihail Sharov having some pictures of her from a copmetition but I don't have records of how she did, I know she hasn't been a big name because she was one of the leaders in 2018 but now has been surpassed by Samodelkina, Petrosyan, Akatieva, and co

Calling skaters 'russian dolls' isn't expressing opinions respectfully.

Of course, she has right to tell Russians what to do, just like I have right to tell her that it's not her business.

Yep, I agree. That's the entire point, actually. There's no need to disparage fans on this forum because they are 'western' and insert politics into a situation because you don't like something a journalist said.

Thank you for carrying out this discussion peacefully and respectfully, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, Kiira has no bad intent but may come across as biased or Russian focused. She was a skater herself for many years, well I guess she can do things her way and Eteri can do things her way

Her own words - "Eteri’s child factory" - are no less disrespectful and insulting.
:

” – Here I can only say for myself, there is nothing left to do except to work with the material that exists and try to create our own product. I have just said two words deliberately, which the readers may not really like – “material” and “product”. But this is so. For example Zhenya Medvedeva is the product of our factory.“ - Eteri Tutberidze 2017

https://fs-gossips.com/eteri-tutberidze-during-the-work-pity-does-not-help/

Don’t get me wrong, it can be seen disrespectful by any means but how do you expect the writers of an article NOT to pick up on stuff like this when she literally herself goes around and says it?

Kiira‘s words may seem disrespectful but this is literally what Eteri said.

Unless the translation of this interview is inaccurate - which is perfectly possible but in which case I‘d like for you to provide a more accurate translation - I really don‘t understand the outrage.

(And, just to let me make this clear: I do NOT agree with everything said in this article. But I found her insights interesting nonetheless and value that she‘s doing her best at protecting the children in this sport)

She didn't use the term... and though the writer put that in there, there's a good chance someone else wrote the headline.

Of course the copywriter did it! It's a mild pun (way less groanworthy than 99% of them), and any newspaper that can use a pun WILL use a pun. That is Journalism 101.
