2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Growth killed her. It's more or less accepted common wisdom in Russian FS community that once skater hits 170, her triples stop being stable. Well, obviously nobody thought it was a tragedy back then, apparently if Skater has to retire because she lost triples due to growth is fine but if she retires due to losing quads... that kills FS

On a serious note, Khromykh is interesting case studio in that regard, I hope she will break that 1.70m "curse".

not sure about that one.

Cause Pogorilaya kept her triples up until the very end, and she showed videos on instagram of her triples which are still there.

To me her issues have always been mental, always being so tense, maybe the stubborness from the coach didn't help (but that could also be what kept her competitive who knows). Given the back pain she should have probably ditched the biellmann spin sooner maybe.

The whole career she has been someone who either nails every single element or bombs completely and maybe that's because of the height, but i mean she didn't grow a lot in cm from 2014 to 2018.

Up until GPF 2016 she was Russia's number 2, then maybe the pressure of the Olympics coming, or RusFed which put her a bit on the spot with Sotskova suddenly surpassing her. Her last competitions were always on the verge of losing it, and needed a clean skate to keep the spot: at Nationals against Sotskova, Tsurskaya, Radionova, at Europeans against Kostner and at Worlds against Osmond, Daleman, Miyahara or again Kostner.

In 2018 she looked exhausted, but if she wants to come back (technically hasn't retired yet) she could still pull out respectable performances depending on the coach also.

There is one problem with this video: Sasha (unless it was filmed earlier) is supposed to be in mandatory quarantine and it doesn't look like it is her backyard or other type of private property.

not sure about Russia, but here in the US the stay at home/quarantine order encourages outdoor activity like what Sasha is doing- walking, hiking, roller blading, etc as long as you are 6 feet away from others who do not live in your household.

Where I live it's encouraged too but only if you have no travel history or contacts with the infected. Those who do must stay in their private property. I came across article which suggested that what Sasha was doing was not entirely ok since she returned from Egypt a few days ago:

Maybe someone who lives in Russia could enlighten on local mandatory quarantine laws?

Live stream time, not only for kids and youths, but also for adults: liza_tuktik on IG.

The well known rotten YT channels that parasite on live streams will probably provide screen recording later.

Having triples !== landing them with good %.

p.s I don't agree to '170cm' theory but it's what you will probably hear at every rink in Russia.

Alexandra's actions are just unacceptable and I am saying this as someone who is die hard TT and Quad Queen supporter.

Her trip to Egypt was bad but still somewhat defendable this video is just "I do NOT care" and most likely illegal.

Yeah, but it doesn‘t really make sense because Pogorilaya was ALWAYS inconsistent, even as a junior. This isn‘t something that came with growing or puberty, it was just who she was. One day on top of the world and then falling three times in her SP. It‘s true that tall skaters might have it harder but I don‘t buy that this is what held Pogo back from being - let‘s say a World Champion. She just wasn‘t as mentally tough and sometimes succumbed to the pressure. But despite that she was Russian #2 for quite a while and got a lot of medals from important competitions. Considering that many talented skaters won‘t even make it out of Russia, her career was a really successful one.

Also: Sasha... I was just excited to see her try roller skating, I didn’t think of any consequences. And she looks so happy, too. :slink:

But, genuinely asking: Do we even know where she is? What if this is the street in front of her house?

But then again, if you‘re really quarantined and not only social distancing, I guess you aren‘t allowed to leave the house at all, at least in my country. Oh dear... I wish she had posted it two weeks later, then we could have all just been excited to see her skate again, even if it‘s not on ice..

That video was taken in a park, definitely not in front of her house.

P.S even if it was in front of the house it wouldn't matter, she is supposed to be staying at home.

Last idea... maybe it‘s an old video. But then she should clarify that as soon as possible.

Aleksandra is under no obligation to any of us at all. Only to herself and her parents.

A nice dacha in a clean surroundings well outside of the big city is the safest place where she can be. She is very lucky to have space and cool forest air about her.

We should be more worried about the kids that live in those huge apartment blocks, which is how the majority of Muscovites live.

Thaks.

What kind of an unusual cat is that that Veronika holding? It looks like some kind of Siberian cat muskrat. :) ;)

per an article dated 3/31-

"According to the mayor’s decree, a city dweller can leave the house only to buy food and medicine in the nearest store and pharmacy, to walk with their dog within a distance of 100 meters from the house and to dispose of garbage. Visiting the doctor is only possible in emergency cases."

This was the best i could find being someone who doesn't speak Russian. I am going to assume this was on the street in front of her house, or recorded at an earlier date.

Let's be honest BOT Sasha Supergirl is a Daredevil on and off the ice. When she drives a car in a couple she is likely going to be a maniac driving a hundred km down the Moscow expressway! ;) She only knows one speed on and off the ice and that is very fast. Hopefully being quarantined and unable to leave Moscow at this time will be a great lesson in patience for Sasha. But I doubt it. That said I am very happy she is 100% healthy after this untimely and foolish trip to Egypt amid this unbelievable woldwide pandemic. But if her parents don't realize the mistake they made how can Sasha figure this out?

Had Alexandra not traveled to Egypt, that wouldn't have been problem at all, Self Isolation recommendations aren't laws and most people don't really care about it.

But as someone who traveled outside of Russia, she is required to stay at home for 2 weeks, so unless it's her private Vila her action is not only irresponsible but also illegal.

P.S After that doctor tested positive Putin is also quarantined, so if he walks in the street tomorrow, that will be a violation of rules too.
