2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

ISU has decided over deadlines for cancellation of JPG events: https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/s...-Congress-and-follow-up&p=2598806#post2598806

Right now it seems the situation is Russia is worsening by the day. What would be the minimum ice time for the young Russian skaters to get back in medal winning shape? 6 weeks? 8 weeks?
Assuming FFKKR will send inexperienced Samodelkina and Petrosyan to the first events and keep VUK for the later, decisive, events?

TAT can plead all she wants for reopening of training camp but even the Ministry for Sports cannot control the health situation and measures taken higher up. With Covid-19 infections now found in the Kremlin’s highest echelon, the government’s response will be interesting.

As for JGP, in the organizing countries it seems the percentage of the new cases is decreasing for some time already, so maybe, maybe, there could be little optimism from this perspective. We will see in the following weeks whether this trend will continue. In the necessary six weeks till the decision many things can happen. The other question is whether the skaters will have time to gain competitive form, which depends on the situation in their own countries.

Don't forget Frolova, Muravyova, and Osokina. There was some rumor of the Russian artistic gymnasts being allowed to go back to training a few weeks ago but their training center has been turned into a quarantine camp. The national team athletes (except team sports) in Italy have been allowed to go back to training. But I don't think it will be like that for Russia, at this point I don't see how the JGP can start as scheduled. It needs to be pushed back a few weeks.

The idea to die on ice if the Motherland demands so is not a big deal.
Grischuk, Volosozar and Yagudin were ready. Grinkov virtually died on ice. Berznaya and Totmianina were half-dead...
So asking a youngster if he or she ready is of little concern in Russia.

These kind of remarks always make me wonder how Russian gov't values individual human life ....

ROC president has something to say about resuming training with the situation not under control: https://www.championat.com/other/ar...naviruse-olimpiade-2020-i-istorii-s-vada.html

AFAIR the human life lost in fire (arson or accident) costs 1.6 million Russian rubles, about $25000. I read it few y.a. at some official site.
Same more or less correct for a, say, an underwater sailor lost in a submarine accident. Family payment applied...

:palmf:

The idea of athletes being soldiers of the country died with the Soviet Union. Right now, if somebody is actually risking his or her health is doing so by their own choice(or in the worst case, by parents) and isn't forced by the country like Elene Mukhina was during her time.

Real cost of losing a submarine crew (and any other highly qualified military personal) for a country is money and time spent on his or her education, training and experience. Skilled soldiers don't grow on trees and can be impossible to replace for a long time. It will take Russia years to replace officers died in experimental submarine accidents, it took them years to acquire skills and experience they had and it will take new recruits years to reach their level of knowledge and skills.

and regardless of a country, the value human life carries for a government heavily depends on the value and importance of the work individual does. Most of us, average Joes, who do easily replaceable work, carry close to zero value for government and are in " this one is dead, fine, bring the new one in" category.

To make it slightly on topic, Sakhanovich in one of her interview said that Eteri didn't allow her to train quads due to concerns of her health, so contrary to popular belief she isn't "It's okay if she dies, Russian mothers will give birth to new one" soviet style coach.

Corona seems to be slowly picking up speed in Moscow. Sasha and Anna obviously seem to be outside the city. What about Alyona? Does anyone know what?

Aren't you a bit harsh in applying censorship here on the pretext of board dragging?

I can construct the same posting from Tass and RIA Novosti sources, only omitting mentioning this other board, for this incident can seriously harm a skater's reputation.

Liza Tuktamysheva's new short program will be "Spartacus"

https://m.sports.ru/amp/news/1085219095/?__twitter_impression=true

Let's hope she doesn't change the music this time around

Better quote the original source, today's FFKKR interview with Aleksey Nikolayevich Mishin: https://fsrussia.ru/intervyu/5009-a...sya-korotko-no-nuzhno-katat-sya-khorosho.html

" Q: The short program, as Lisa already said, was staged by Anna Cappelini and Luca Lanotte?

A: Yes, and this is also a non-trivial move. Two themes were proposed - Madonna and Spartacus.I grabbed Spartacus with both hands. And when we tried some fragments to this music, it became clear it was very suitable for Lisa - guessed right. And in one and the other program, Lisa looks very unusual. "
