2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Rolls eyes so hard.

It's pretty clear to me that numerous people here just have it in for Plushy for whatever reason and that's the source of their "worries" over Sasha's career.

Admit it, you'd rather Sasha go to a coach who actually does work out of his garage rather than Plushenko.

And I'm starting to think you're actually afraid that it'll turn out well and you'll look like fools. Which I hope you do.

Well, at least Sofia Titova is excited about this, she's a big Sasha T fan.

I have my doubts about Evgeniy as a coach, not as an athlete. I still wish things for Sasha to go well nevertheless though. I’d be extremely delighted to be looking like a complete idiot and a fool for doubting him, I sincerely would! If that happens, I’d be the happiest fool out there!

I looked around at the IG I'm following. It was then that I realized that Gubanova isn’t even on the reserve team. She was my favorite 4-5 years ago. I adored her skating, her arms..I'm so sad. She has no chance? :sad21:

This thread is getting exhausting. Can people please stop saying Sasha is gonna fail because of the “horrible” Pluschenko and move on to talk about other subjects? You’ve already made your points clear, everyone has read your ideas, now let’s move on and leave poor Alexandra alone, it’s her life.

Well she skated in at least six events last year 3 Russian Cup events plus Russian Cup Final St Petersburg cup and Russian Nationals. I think there was another event too. Maybe not. She's pretty much post puberty so the Federation should give her a couple Challengers if there are a couple Challengers to get her out of the country and going someplace to actually get a season's best. It's pretty ridiculous that the best competition in ladies figure skating Russian Nationals doesn't even count is a season's best. It's really bizarre how the Federation has buried her and ignored her and her wonderful skating skills for years. Hopefully she gets a chance this season if there is a season. Covid 19 at this point is not just going to go away like the swine flu did. Very scary for all people and all athletes because so much has been put on hold.

So if nastya or Nugumanova wanted to change Federations so they could get better opportunities they would have to wait two years? So ridiculous.

Seriously, what are you talking about? Athletes change coaches all the time. Would you say that Eteri poached Alena Kanysheva? No one poached anyone. People just found something they would like better. This is getting tiresome.
I guess you could say that Eteri poached Kanysheva if you wanted to. She had just won bronze at Junior Grand Prix at 13 years old and had very nice skating skills. Sasha is the super quad Queen and because of the hype her coaching change got a lot of publicity. Sasha is a phenom like Mike Tyson was in boxing there's a lot of interest and publicity in her whether it's fair or not. But back to your point Vandy I'm sure it hurt Kanyshevas former coach that she left her for eteri. So yes it does work both ways . It's just so sad what happened to Alenas singles career. But that's sports and that's life.
This is the only place I’ve read that Alina has said she’s coming back. Does anyone have a link to anything official?

Also, I’ve been searching for incidents or situations showing that Trusova is a problem. Any links to this?
Her music has been chosen for next season so I think that's a pretty good tip that she's coming back. I hope the reigning and defending Olympic and world champions return does not deflate anyone. Everyone should be happy she's coming back and still skating competitively as a soon-to-be 18 year old. On a side note Alina will prove once and for all that EG can coach mature singles skaters into their late teens. But the great coach has already done that with Zhenya who skated great at the Olympics on a freaking fractured foot and then didn't leave EG until she was 18 and a half years old. So Eteri has already coached a very mature ladies figure skater. Now Alina will be her second.

Sasha Wars: The Saga Continues
Is Sasha Wars anything like Star Wars? Edwin says she's up in the cosmos so maybe it is a Star Wars type thing. ;)

Thank you for your informations, I didn't know this. :) I was out of the FS for one year I just watched the main competitions. I would like to see her skating for several more years.

Unrelated but congrats! Your post on a topic that has caused so much drama here, managed to get a thumbs up from both anonymoose and flanker. You deserve a small Nobel Peace Prize.
/End of off topic/

Can anyone tell me what Konstatntinova's GP chances are? I've heard she's not on the reserve team, but she's fairly high up in the World Rankings, and could get a slot, maybe even two if she's lucky. Or not?

I think the top 24 in World Rankings are guaranteed one spot. Stasya's ranked 25th, so she's not guaranteed any. I could see her getting one, but two is very unlikely especially based on her performances last year. She'll probably do one or two Challengers as well.

Okay, but my question had absolutely nothing to do with Eteri. I’m asking for an official statement from Alina that she’s coming back. Good for her if she is, but speculation and rumors shouldn’t be considered as fact.

They said they've chosen music for her next season. They would not do that do all that work if she was not coming back. Alina is very discreet and very quiet. You won't hear it from her. But her choreographer let the cat out of the bag. She loves animals so I said that. 😎

But didn’t she hold a press conference to announce her break? Not disputing your speculation that because her coach stated they have chosen music that she’s coming back for the competitive season. But seems she’d make another official announcement to hold another press conference?
At any rate, it’ll be an exciting season if she does decide to come back

i think she was on a talk show when she announced it, if i'm not mistaken.

she isn't required to make an announcement of a return at all if she doesn't want to, and if she does decide to make a statement she can do it in whatever way she sees fit. maybe she doesn't want much attention on it.

There is so much uncertainty in the world right now and the figure skating season is up in the air as well. It would seem a bit out of touch to have a big press conference about coming back. She had officially said that she was just taking the rest of last season off, so there doesn't seem to be much of a need for big fanfare.

That interview was bad PR advice; unless it was for some significant health reason I've never heard any athlete do a press conference to announce a break from competition which is why the retirement mess came up after it.

Good point. I never thought of that. You’re right. Making a huge announcement might not be considered appropriate at this time. Then again, it might be a little bit of sunshine for people looking for something to look forward to.
I know I’m anxious for things to get back to a little bit of normal.
