Should ISU take a stance on Yagudin's insults against other athletes?

Mr Yagudin creates his own legend, claiming he jumped quads at Junior Worlds . I can't take seriously a man who bashes younger skaters on a base of his false memories... (what's even funnier, his and TAT's comments on men have their roots in Russian ladies' achievements).

But his homophobia is another story. As long as expressing it is allowed in Russia, don't think ISU is able to do anything. But probably social boycott would help. Hope nobody decent shakes his hand during any ISU event.

In the 19th century they could challenge each other to a duel. In my younger years when I read a book orf saw a period drama where duel was involved, I thought to myself "those people were insane". In these years, I'm starting to think the duel is not so bad institution, people would not exchange so much insults via social network and a lot less people would second wth their proposals about consequences.

So, would you rather see them dealing each other by pistols or swords?

For me, publically saying it is much worse.
People are entitled to have thoughts - nobody should be punished for their thoughts.
But acting on those thoughts and being malicious should be punished.
It's like saying "Which is worse; thinking that somebody should die or sending a death threat"
Sending a death threat is much worse.

As a gay woman who used to be a fan of his skating, this is very dissapointing, and hurtful tbh. These comments just go to show how horrible of a person he is, but sadly I doubt that in a country as traditionalistic as Russia, anything will be done about it

Why were you confused by the things you made bold?
You shouldn't be punished for your thoughts. You can't necessarily control your thoughts.
He said "when will you all die." Maybe not a death threat, but wishing that gay people should all die is not okay.
I gave an example of death threat as it's an example that can easily be understood.
But to be more extreme:

If somebody thought about sabotaging somebody elses boots, is that as bad as actually doing it?

If somebody thought about murdering somebody, is that as bad as killing somebody?

You can't punish somebody for thoughts, but you can punish somebody for actions - actions have consequences - this is taught to 2 year old.

Even if you take out his insults (and you shouldn't given his position), the comments about the lack of quads from certain skaters are extremely rude and unsportsmanlike.

The petition post also mentions a number of other violations of professional ethics from him while commentating including intentionally mispronounced names and profanity.

Honestly, the commentary about the lack of quads aren't any worse than the people giving Alina slack for backloading and calling people to go for a toilet break during her program

It's telling that despite Yagudin being borderline anti religious, I have never seen religious people(which are many in Russia) trying to get him fired, yet people who claim to be "tolerant"... don't seem to be very tolerant to me

he is literally gross. what vile, disrespectful and inappropriate things to say especially while broadcasting on air to thousands of people. even off the air using his own social media, many companies do not tolerate that behavior as you represent them too. if the company does nothing, we can see where their stance and values are as well.

Please tell me I am not the only one to go wide-eyed to read that Yagudin commentated for a pervy channel, only to realize it was a Russian word and not an English one

Anyhow, I don't see how the ISU could do anything but publicly distance themselves from his statements on social networks. What skating fans could do to show him their displeasure is also not much; unfollowing him and not going to his shows are an option (but then, other less known skaters would suffer too, so it's a hard choice). What I see here from his commentating lacks class to me, and that comment about Adam is downright mean. But as someone said, this does not apply to Yagudin only. Gossipy and sexist commentary has turned me off my country's Eurosport coverages, for instance. Unpleasant to think at least one of those guys was an active coach.

Calling a male skater “feminine” and no better than a woman? As though it were an insult.
Far from being brave, Yags looks like a whiny child when he says such a thing, and appears to have not progressed beyond a five year old's mentality with schoolyard insults, and deserves no respect there so it’s true, he is only showing his own ignorance and lack of class.

But saying someone should die? Every Russian speaker that I know has said Yags said Adam was “Earth’s mistake” because of his support for trans rights. And because he was gay.

At this point, he has simply lost his ever loving mind.:whack:

Russia is a free country where you can express any opinion without having your life destroyed. They don't tend to fire people as long as they do their job well.

It's one thing to "tolerate" a difference in opinions/political choices, it is another completely different thing to "tolerate" the believe of someone that you as a person don't deserve to live based on something that is NOT your choice, but how you were born.
