With the civil strike dragging on in Vancouver not only is the garbage piling up, the community centres are locked out as well so if the strike does not end soon the ice rinks will not be able to open in September. Hockey players of course were mentioned on the news - they always get publicity - but figure skaters too will pay the price if the rinks don't open soon. It will make it difficult for skaters to get ice time.

I wonder if any of Canada's eligible skaters are affected. I think McLeod's group is out of Richmond, so I'm assuming they're safe.

That must stink....pun intended! How awful to have something totally unrelated to skating mess things up! I hope something can be figured out!

Ladskater - Is there a place they can practice?

Well, New Westminster - where I live - is not on stirke. There are a couple of rinks here and plenty in and around the lower mainland; however, logistics will make it tough for some of the skaters as well as enough ice time. I hope the stirke ends soon.
