I noticed this morning that the Legacy on Ice videos, which had been up on YouTube all year, are now down. It drives home the lack of legacy in figure skating- that despite what a remarkable sport it is to combine athletics with art, it is gone as soon as skaters age out of the ability to perform it, with no record left. In this, it’s unlike anything else; regular sports will always have replays and theatrical shows have permanency. Meanwhile it seems like skaters get no credit for popularizing music they use, and are treated as though it’s a one way relationship where they are the purchasers.
