Thornhill Summer Skate 2007

Thanks for the FSU info.

Pay to read the forums? I don't think so.

So - is anyone gonna post some detailed reviews of the Thornhill Skate? Stuff on the ice-dancing would be especially appreciated.

Back to the original topic, what was Joannie's, Jessica's, and Cynthia's long program scores? That link is not working for me.

A few questions:

Is Joey Russell generally better than Chris Mabee?

Joe

I wouldn't say so. Chris had a bad LP (but a good SP), but he's better than Joey at this point. I love Joey, and I think he will be a force to watch in the future- I've been watching him since he was pre-novice and he's always had the spark that makes him stand out. He really is a musical skater and I'd like to see him do well.

Joey doesn't quite have a reliable triple axel yet, as far as I know (they were rotated at Thornhill, but he fell on the landing)- I don't think he landed (attempted?) any last year.

Joannie, Jessica and Cynthia did the SP only. Their scores:
Joannie: 59.75
Jessica: 53.16
Cynthia: 50.74

Other skaters: (SP, FS, Total)
Erica Tisluck: 46.33, 73.94, 120.27
Amelie Lacoste: 41.94, 71.46, 113.40
Myriane Samson: 37.20, 64.88, 102.08

Joey did try a triple axel in the junior worlds FP last season but it was downgraded.

For anyone else wondering, the complete official results for the Quebec Summer Competition are at:

It's impressive that Jessica Dube did so well both in her singles short and pairs.

Apparently Meagan Duhamel re-injured her ankle/foot. Does anyone have more detailed/up-to-date info on that?

Hi, Maggylyn, welcome to the forum. Hope you like it here. :)

As for paying to subscribe to forums, the administrators of both Golden Skate and Figure Skating Universe have, for several years, paid substantial money out of their own pockets to maintain these boards, just out of love of the sport. Sometimes there is no other choice but to try to spread the expenses out a little.

Thank-you for the welcome.

Actually, I don't have a problem with the administration of any forums charging, if that's what they feel they need to do. I just probably won't be able to join those particular ones; but there is quite a bit of info out there (like here, for instance) that hopefully it doesn't make any difference. And I was able to sign up at FSU so I guess there are still some sections there that are free.

I'm just happy there's a place to discuss figure skating. :)

The general skating and off-topic forums at FSU are still free to all registered users; it's only the current season forums dedicated to individual competitions which are restricted to paid subscribers (and even those are no longer restricted several weeks after the competitions are over).

For the most part, I agree with everyone who said, "why pay for something that can be found on other sites for free?", but I also know that's much easier to say when you're not the one who has to run the site and pay for its bandwidth. :)

Once again, back to the original topic--thanks to everyone for sharing their reviews of Thornhill Summer Skate!

I was wondering how the ice-dancing went at Thornhill?

Weren't some of the teams brand-new pairings? How did they do?

I think it's so gutsy of them to compete so quickly after just becoming a team.

I didn't even know Jessica skated singles as well.

She has skated singles since pre-novice, and still does at the Nationals. This past season she only skated her short program because she hadn't had any time to prepare a long program due to injuries. She usually places top 10, and was 6th or 7th in 2006 I believe.
Check this article out: she medaled in both her disciplines at an ISU Junior Grand Prix even in Mexico: http://www.skatecanada.ca/en/news_views/press_room/news_releases/2003/sep29_2.cfm:)
