Who is better in these videos Caroline Zhang or Mao Asada

I love both of them

Caroline has better spins and spirals, incredible musicality and artistry

Mao has better jumps, she also has incredible musicality and artistry and more maturity now!

So in short i love them both!

IN International Competition, Mao may have an edge because of her triple triple combinations and triple axels (and according to rumor-quadruple loop)

mao looks like she has grown alot! i hope her growth spurt doesnt effect her 3axel. she has also improved her artistry, very nice.

caroline is great but looks like a little girl whearas mao now looks like more like a woman and is loosing that pre-pubescent look.

I liked Caroline better---very soft skater but what's up with the Meissner watch?. Mao needs to loosen her neck and get rid of the bizarre facial expressions. She sorta reminds me of Garth from Wayne's World.

Being a biased Mao fan, I would say Mao. She is in a class of her own as the only lady who can do a fully-rotated 3A and 3-3 in one program.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I think she will be dominant in ladies skating for years to come. She will only lose if she makes a mistake, and not because others do better than hers.

Mao probably has the most raw talent. She has the jumps, which have skyrocketed her to the top, and is quickly catching up in the artistry.

Caroline is a beutiful skater and certainly is blessed with being very flexible but i have yet to see her have "it" in competition. Her exebitions are heartflet and i really felt her connect with the audince, but she is more withdraw (if flawless) in compeition. Thus, if caroline could get a triple triple or two and bring out that "it" factor in competition, I would go with Miss Zhang.

Caroline is going to the Senior Grand Prix and Nationals, hope she makes a huge impression! If you compare them at the same age, Caroline is the most complete skater with Mao more of a jumping bean.

But now Mao has really grown up! Even though Caroline may have better musicality, artistry, spins, spirals. She has only the slightest of edges because for me based on what i've seen on the video, Mao is already up there. I agree if she continues to improve this much artistically and maintains her arsenal of jumps (3-3 and 3 axel) as well as her stunning spins she could dominate the sport

I've always been a huge fan of Yu-Na Kim and i believe she can also dominate the sport cause she has the 3-3 in her arsenal, the edge of Mao is her 3 axel! So unless Mao makes a mistake, Yu-Na would win, but if both commit mistakes and Miki is clean, Miki would win it!! Caroline still has a long way to go and the pressure for her is to have a consistent triple triple, but seeing the consummate artiste in her, i think that she would rather skate clean and really deliver the artistry that is prerequisite in this sport, she has such an amazing future in the world of figure skating, possibly be one of the best ever!

With Mao, I didn't feel any connection with the music before, because she was still very young, but last season she had a scintillating masterpiece with her Short Program! That was really absoutely lovely!

With her training with Tarasova, i could see the body now dancing with the music the same way i see in Zhang, Cohen, Kwan and Arakawa. I could really see the influence of the Bolshoi ballet in her skating now. Very polished, flowing with really expressive movements (this was evident with Ando last season especially during the early parts). I only desire the facial expressions ala cohen and she would be perfect! Arakawa also gained the musical body though like Asada some people tend to say that their facial expressions make them look stoic. Nonetheless, in my opinion they are all very complete skater with their own unique style and grace!

Caroline's exhibition in Spokane is spellbinding. One of my favorite performances of all time. (In my mind, the juniors stole the show in Spokane.) Alas, at this point Caroline does not have the 3/3 or the 3A. The former is extremely important to medal at Worlds, and it may take the 3A as well to overtake Mao at her best.). Those jumping feats (the 3/3) for women are analgous to the quad for men. Post 2006 Olympics, they are required! And whether it is admitted or not, they boost an individuals score in non-jump areas as well.

As for Mao, she is fantastic in almost every aspect. She is extremely musical, and we know her technical skills. Her posture and positions on the ice are first class. I really don't think she needs to "mug" to communicate. Yu-na is almost as good, but I'm thinking Mao is the clear favorite heading into 2010--and we are headed there like a landslide!

Mao will be expected to win the GP Final this season.

Caroline is not expected to be in the Final this seson.

What Caroline is expected to do is to have a learning experience in the Seniors as did Mao last year at this time. What she learns is whether or not she should forget gold in the future of come back raving mad to win next season.

Mao's biggest competitor this season is YuNa. Next season, who knows?

Exhibitons really don't say that much, imo.

I don't think that's true. Mao won the Senior Grand Prix Final as a Junior. Unheard of. Last season she was expected to be on top. Her consistency faltered for various reasons that should be cleared up this coming season.

But, yes, Caroline should be expected to have a learning experience. For her and all of the other younger ladies out there, they should be setting their sights improving themselves for 2011 through 2014. Mao and Yu-Na are the current stars and it's unlikely that they will be de-throned. The younger girls talk about putting the 3/3's in their programs, but Mao and Yu-Na already had them consistent as Juniors. They are clearly ahead and will always be that way in the judges' minds, until they retire or injury limits their abilities. If Mao doesn't retire in 2010, you can expect her to win the Olympics in 2014 as well if her body remains in fine form. She'll still only be 23 at that point...hardly "too old".

Gee Goldmedalist you must have a crystal ball predicting Mao for Gold in 2010 and 2014. The one thing I have learned in my years of being a figure skating fan is that the ice is slippery and no skater no matter how talented is pre-ordained to win the Gold Medal (exception may be Plushenko) at the Olympics or any competition. I like Mao and I think she is a fine skater but is she beatable. Only time will tell.

I'm pretty sure MK was in "fine form" during both the 1998 and 2002 Olympics and look what happened there. What if Mao has the destiny of MK, winning world title after world title but not gaining that one OGM.

Now tell me why Sarah never beat Michelle in Worlds? The winner of the gold medal in figure skating is the one person who skated best that night and only that night. Sarah had the one night and MK had 5 of those nights.

The grandeur of the Olmpic gold medal is pure unadulterated media hype.

To go back to the original topic... I prefer Caro's exhibition, because her musicality and gracefulness feel more "natural" while Mao's more "studied."

Caro clearly has a natural talent for bringing music to life through her skating, while Mao's natural talent is in fast and high jumps -- that is not to say that even Caro's athletic ability and Mao's artistic interpretation are not extraordinary compared to the average skaters. Perhaps over time, with hard work and wise coaching, Mao can achieve a level of musicality and audience connection that will come across as totally natural and heart-felt. Or perhaps not, we'll see.

In contrast, I fear a little that someone like Caro can never acquire the extraordinary jumping skills like Mao's. By 14, most female skaters have already acquired 95% of the jumping skills that they will ever possess, haven't they? If they haven't landed a 3A or 4X yet, then they almost certainly never will. And if their jumps are not particularly high or fast, and their landings don't have a lot of flow, then it will probably be really hard to string together a 3-3 if they haven't managed it already.

With the passing years, as these young artists and jumping beans progress into their late teens, I feel like the jumping beans sometimes manage to morph into artists (e.g. Michelle), while the natural artists struggle with their technical skills, having trouble retaining old jumps as well as learning new ones. So in a way, the jumping beans have a better chance of "catching up." I see a little of this in Johnny & Evan, too. While Evan is learning to skate to the music and connect to the audience, Johnny's just struggling to return to the "peak" condition he was in a few years earlier, and that vaunted quad seems as far away as ever. I'm also thinking of Yukina Ota...

Anyway, my heart is naturally inclined toward the artists, so perhaps I'm doomed to frequent disappointment in my skating fandom. :p
