Who has the most fans?

I think that on skating forums Kwan, Plushenko and Yagudin have most fans. About live events I´m sure that e.g. in USA Kwan definetely would be number 1 for the general audiences by selling the most tickets, but that would not be the case for her e.g. in Russia. I believe that the general audiences in USA need big US stars to make a tour really popular. One can put the matter like this: SOI has been losing audiences during the time Yagudin (without a big US lady or male star) has skated there.

I'd assume SOI would've lost a whole lot of more crowds without Yagudin. :)

When Alexei was in COI, he was very disappointed that Michelle Kwan skated last to end the program. I don't think he understands business. When MK could no longer skate COI, the attendance dropped significantly.

That's the way it was in the US. However, I do not believe Kwan was popular in Russia. But when does Kwan complain to the media?

Joe

Kwan never complains. That's one among many other reasons why she comes across dull and lukewarm to a lot of skating fans in Europe. :p

Apart from that I was talkin' about SOI, not COI ....

There are skaters with alot of fans and then there are skaters with alot of diehard(vocal) fans. When it comes to my faves, there are only a few of them that I'm totally diehard about. And I'll usually only feel comfortable about speaking up for a fave if I feel other people will probably back me up. For example, IMO, Yagudin, Cohen, Savoie, Nikodinov, and Berezhnaya & Sikharulidze.

I'm not here to debate who has the most fans by country or world wide, but the SOI fans I know (especially long term ones) come to see SOI for many different favorite skaters and how the cast interacts as a group. Personally several of our favorite long term SOI cast members don't necessarily have the Olympic or World titles or medals, and that's just fine with us. We still love seeing them perform and entertain us.

I have the most fans. Wait...I don't skate and a client just called me and yelled at me.........LOL

Seriously, I think that Scott Hamilton has the most fans. He is really the only one that gets coverage in magazines like People and stuff like that. I think Michelle Kwan also has a great deal of fans as well. Now outside the US...can't really say.

What some of u guys said goes, if at all, only for the US. Worldwide - that's a complete different question. And answer. :p

Which, Germanice, if you had read the posts they would agree that it only goes in the US - because that's what many are basing their opinions on.

There are fans who watch skating all over the world and in certain countries, a fan following develops. Not unusual for the Japanese to like Lambiel (aftter Nobunari and Daisuke, of course). Not unusual for the Russians to like Weir (after Evgeni and Alexei, of course), Nothing wrong with this..

IMO, the topic was not clear as to whom it was addressed.

The question is not based on the countries. There is no boundaries as a figure skating fan or any fans. It's not unusual for the Japanese to like Lambiel over Nobunari and Daisuke. It's not unusual for Americans to like Alexei over any US men's skaters. Some people don't know the situation in worldwide range, but they stated within US, the situation is like such. They made it clear. So I don't think there is any problem. Seriously, Scott Hamilton is a real fighter and a very respectful man, but I don't know how many fans he has outside of US? I don't think he has many.

Actually, I think the original purpose of this thread (started by "evplu" was to cheer for Evgeni Plushenko.:clap::clap:

I did not use the word over in either of my statements. I was defending another poster who mentioned that US fans did not consider Worldwide fans. Most topics on the Voting Booth are simply voting for favorites and no one should take them seriously.

Joe, I know you didn't use the word "over", I did. :) I didn't come up against your idea actually. Rather, I have just filled in the part you didn't say in your post, and I think it should be more complete with my post. Some of US fans ( not in this thread ) do consider US only and don't even care to know the outside of US. I think we should agree that there are a quite amount of people like that.

I agree it's just figure skating. It's not politics or any thing, and shouldn't be taken seriously.

Although I misinterpreted, I did not feel slighted by your post.

I agree with you. I wish posters would think more about good skating and less about the nationality of the skater. I love competition sports and I really want the best skater (from wherever) that night to win.
