Well, this is confusing. I assumed that Kamila would do the Senior Russian Cup as she skates at senior test skates, after all. But does this mean she won‘t compete at Junior Nationals at all? Or will there be an exception for her? And what about Daria and Maiia and the others? They‘re theoretically old enough to do both Senior and Junior Nationals...

The way I understand it is any jr that competes senior cup and qualifies to senior nats is also qualified to junior nats.

for them it’s either all or nothing. They either qualify for both nationals or qualify for none, if they choose to go for Senior Cup stages. So I’d say, coaches will have to decide for each junior on case by case basis, how good their chances are, before submitting them to sr or jr stages.

Probably more like they've learned that having 1 coach mainly handle a segment of of skaters that it makes that coach more alluring to other skating schools if their skaters show good results and more likely that if that coach leaves that skaters will follow - a coaching team probably makes it less attractive for another skating school to go after 1 of the coaches because are they sure they are bringing the 1 coach that can bring their skating school the results that they go at Sambo. Additionally, it makes it easier for the skaters at Sambo if 1 of those coaches do leave because they have multiple coaches they've been working with.

From the photo it looks like new coaches will be mainly busy with the youngest kids, teaching them basics. So they’re not replacing Rozanov, since he worked with kids of older age (novices mainly). It’s a good starting ground for them and they might start working with older kids after that.
Perhaps Aliona (the lady who worked with the youngest kids before) got promoted to work with novices? Or maybe the amount of senior students isn’t as high as it is usually, so they’re not rushing to get a replacement for Rozanov‘s spot.

So, Polya is back to Sambo-70. Hope she (and the guys) will make a great coach and cannot wait to see her at boards with her students.

This is certainly interesting. Didn't Polina leave the team on somewhat bad terms? As in I remember reading that she didn't come say goodbye, she just up and left and the team wasn't so happy with her? I do remember one skater did come back to talk with the team afterwards but I thought that was Tarakanova - did I remember incorrectly and it was Polina?

But anyways, I thought she was a full time economics student. If she is, with a full course load, I'm confused as to how she can have time to be coaching as the skaters are training all day and I'd assume Polina would have classes during the day?

Polina gave Eteri flowers last year because she did not like how she left in 2018.

If she left outside the transfer window - does this explain why she wasn‘t at the test skates? I only vaguely remember her name but she did pretty well at Junior (senior too?) Nats last season, didn‘t she?

I don't know why she didn't skated in testskate. I believe she competed only in juniors in last year..but I'm not sure.

Yeah, it was Polina. She said she felt bad about it, and that a lot of her emotions back then came from her growing up (I think she talked about being more rebellious). In the end she messaged Diana to ask she can come visit, and met with Eteri to talk about everything.
Good to see that now she came back as a coach!
Something similar actually happened with Shelepen as well.

I think Polya might have some second thoughts about either studying or coaching. I remember that after some time working on „podkatki“-coaching (which she did as a side job besides her studies) she said she enjoyed it way more than she thought she would. She liked working with kids and seeing their progress.
Perhaps it made her want to try it on a higher level and see how it goes?

Considering right now she's not age-eligible for the Olympics in 2022 and she's not showing any quads or a triple axel she should stick to Junior nationals where she will have a stronger shot at the podium.

Osokina can't compete in seniors in the Russian Cup events if she is not 14 by the time of the competition, so she doesn't have any way of making it to senior Nationals this season.

Serafima always praised Eteri, and even Eteri always said good things about her, how unfortunate that she had to leave.

There’s also that thing that if she officially “retires”, she loses money from Fed. If she goes to Test Skates, she at least can say “I’m deciding later”.

No, that's not how it works. Rusfed will not receive money from Alina's contracts and shows if she retires. I think this is more than money from rusfed to Alina. Alina isn't the kind of person, who will fool people, her fans because of money.

That was way before Polina left, and Sima didn't leave on bad terms at all. But from other responses, apparently it was Polina who left and then came back to clear things up. For some reason I always thought that was Tarakanova.

Yes, Polina left Eteri on relatively bad terms, but when Polina announced that she had retired she actually went back to Eteri and gave her flowers and it seems like they've been cool since.

Hey Polina is only like 19 or 20 maybe she will try a comeback when I triple axel! This would also show everyone had EG can have a lady skater in her twenties who is mature. It's a brilliant idea but probably won't happen.

Financial reasons, they couldn't afford staying in Moscow, there were rumors about the father wasting all the money, but who knows.

I've read in an interview that they are still struggling economically, she got nothing after winning Tallinn Trophy, her coach Angelina Turenko was very generous on sticking with her all things considered.

It's a shame cause with Eteri it was really working well for her, she was almost on par with Medvedeva.

People are so naive... like “how is it possible to make a program in 7 days?”

I agree it is naïveté to believe programs take 7 days to choreograph. I'd wager it takes 3-4 days for most skaters. Like Medvedeva's programs last season, they just had little to do with the music. Or even Shcherbackova's, and of course Kostornaia's (who probably needed only 1-2 days since she recycled the SP).

I hope the standard of choreography we've seen these few seasons improves. But I don't think it will.

No, that's not how it works. Rusfed will not receive money from Alina's contracts and shows if she retires. I think this is more than money from rusfed to Alina. Alina isn't the kind of person, who will fool people, her fans because of money.

Money all around could be the issue: Fed doesn't want to lose the kickbacks they get from her contracts and her contracts with her sponsors could be tied to her being an active athlete, non-retired, so if she tried to officially retire it could cost her those endorsements. No one particularly knows that's not directly involved in the situation and it's probably a situation that we are unlikely to ever hear a straight answer on it. I do think that the Fed or Eteri could be pushing her to consider competing, because if she really wanted to compete there wouldn't be this decision pending what happens at test skates.

If Alina has time to decide until the test skates, does that mean that we will get full event distribution a week before the first event? That seems a bit late, unless the event line up will be announced one by one, a few weeks before each event.

Alina not announcing the end of her career (if she has really made such decision, obviously) is lucrative for all sides: Alina keeps her contracts with sponsors and good show deals as an active athlete, federation and coaching team get a percentage of her earnings. If there's a smallest chance that one may return, it makes sense not to announce retirement for reasons mentioned.

I think Zagi will focus on studies (and the sweet $$$!). Good for her. She has everything this sport offers her.

Unbelievable. It's sad that so many struggle financially in this sport.

I wonder how more of these kids like Sima do not get depressed after seeing skaters they were on par with or almost on par with become great and make a lot of money while they don't. It cannot be easy to deal with.
