Evgenia Medvedeva

The man who held Zhenya's phone at Test Skates was Channel One's cameraman :)

I read the same on Twitter and I though if this is true, the RusFed is more pathetic than I thought. Seriously, they didn't have an official to hold her phone?

But well they use Zhenya for all their projects. Why don't they take the other girls to give motivational talks to Rostelecom employees? Why do they use Zhenya's face of their sports projects? And let's not mention her appearance in front of the IOC so they could go to Pyongyang. And so many other things.

Minimal thanks to at least they should have cared about her current situation. They have done nothing to help her while others have all kinds of privileges. They are ashamed.

I read that except Ana, the rest are around 14 year old juniors, among them Zhenya would have to compete with Khromykh (also EG) and I think with quad. Also Frolova. So I don't expect anything from this stage. And the next stage will be even worse.

I don't want to be negative but the reality indicates that it will be difficult for her to classify for nationals.

I don‘t think it is being negative, it‘s being realistic. Zhenya in her Rosteleom shape would probably only have Anna and maybe Maiia, if she lands the quad, as competition. Zhenya in her test skates shape? She‘ll be happy if she even makes the top 5.

This sounds drastic but let‘s be honest, in Russia even the least well-known skaters all have relatively stable 3-3s. A Zhenya who can‘t even rotate a 3S+3T simply has no chance there. PCS can only help you so much. She doesn‘t need to land a 3S+3Lo or have the layout she did last season.

Something like this would be fine:
3F+3T
3Lz+2T+2T
2A
2A
3S+3Tx
3Fx
3Lox

Maybe even put the 3S+3T in the first half too! If she’s clean, PCS would carry her. But we saw at test skates that she‘s far from even landing this layout. Again, this wasn‘t nerves, on the contrary, she fought for everything. 2018-19 Zhenya would have popped the 3F+3T in the FS, she didn’t. But she was absolutely out of breath at the end of that FS and didn‘t even attempt all of the jumps/spins because she just wasn‘t in shape enough for that - and she said it herself! She simply has no stamina as of right now and all the muscle mass she built in Canada is gone. Add the injury on top of that and there‘s no way she can realistically make it through a relatively competitive FS this weekend. Just no way.

She could do the second and third stage, maybe. Getting into shape and healing her injury should be possible in a month.

But this week? She needs to withdraw or we won‘t see her at Nationals. Sorry for stating it like that.

I’m just super confused and even more worried... why did Brian say she was in such good shape over the summer? I’m really worried something bad happened really quickly over the most recent few weeks... if she was in really good shape when Brian gave that interview, I don’t think she would lose muscle mass all that quickly, unless somehow she’s also ill?

But I don’t think Brian would lie. Especially since saying “she‘s far ahead of where she was last year at this point“ is almost an insult to himself, considering Zhenya wasn‘t even training in Canada at that time. Why would he say that if it wasn’t true? So she really must have been doing well. And we noticed it too, didn‘t we? Over the summer she looked fit and healthy, she was positively glowing, despite the weird circumstances! And then all of a sudden the team.moonbear post and those on her instagram where she looked... different.

Combine that with her refusing to talk about her injury when she’s always been very open about everything before... I don‘t know what happened but it‘s not good. And it‘s just such a shame because she has by far the most interesting programs this season and the best skating skills of those competing at the first stage... That FS especially, the more I watch it; the more I like it. So unique - it has potential to be her best program ever!

Oh well. Maybe she can keep it for next season?

Evgenia did not seem worried after test skates, so maybe we should trust her. I love her programs and even a watered down content, she could be third or fourth. She has a naturally slim build. Maybe she's been walking Jerry too much, Jerry has slimmed down too. :)

Evgenia is brave and a fighter but right now, I‘m just worried she wants to go back to Canada so desperately she‘s making the wrong choices. Meaning - deciding to compete to get it over with despite her body not being ready for it.

Also, with a watered content like she had at test skated, she could absolutely make the podium! But again, the problem isn‘t that she‘s not landing +3Lo combos or has a weaker BV. The problem is that it was physically impossible for her to skate an entire FS, which has never happened before, even in her worst times. She had trouble rotating a 3S+3T, which, again, she could do easily even with a broken foot and a broken boot. I don‘t know how anyone could condone her skating a competition in that state in barely a week. I‘m trying to trust her but sorry - in this case, I can‘t. It‘s not only about missing Nationals (which is a very real risk now), she could seriously injure herself!

And yes, she does have a slim build but we all could see the difference between 2018-Zhenya and TCC-Zhenya. And right now, for the first time ever in more than two years, she looks more like the former than the latter.

Team Moonbear is launching an #AlegriaChallenge: https://www.instagram.com/p/CFIcG0Xpv3h/

(Dare I say that is going to be a pose forever associated with this programme?)

I love the pose! And her look when she does it, so fierce. On social media, I‘ve seen people call it the “spider move“ and I agree with this. I‘m still trying to figure out how she‘s bending her arm like thar.

Also, here‘s a short interview with Zhenya for that National sports project she‘s ambassador for. She also talks about how much fan support means for her. :)

There's a new post with her playing the Ukele. She's really good already. That is amazing. I'm also a huge George Harrison fan and he played the Ukele at home all the time. I think it has a zenlike effect . It might be helping Zhenya with her nerves.

I'm trying to work out how she is bending her arm as well! I think it requires the straight arm to be pulled very far back and around; I can do it if my arms are directly behind my back, but I can't maintain it when I raise them. Clearly got to practice more! Might also have to rotate the straight arm so that the elbow points inwards, and the palm points down ... Experiments, experiments.

Be careful someone already hurts themselves doing the Alegría challenge (oops)

Ouch! And they've even had an x-ray taken.

Don't worry, I'm being careful; I'm currently dealing with a collarbone that has subluxated at both the sternum and the shoulder, so am wearing kinesio tape to keep it in place, going back to the physio again this week, and only doing what doesn't hurt. Been reading some of the translations of Evgenia's interviews, and while at twenty she is still very young, she is certainly right that the older you get the more difficult things become, including, apparently, bending your elbow behind your back.

As expected, Zhenya is downplaying her injury and Brian once again has to tell us what is really going on:

"She needs to recover from a chronic back injury ... It looks like it's really a problem at the moment," Orser said over the phone.

“Her performance (at the Test Skates) was below her level. It was so hard trying to train at such a long distance. She definitely needs her usual riding routine, borderline work (general fitness), training and so on. I honestly, I don't know how we can handle it. She misses our program (training) here at Cricket, but the planet has other plans for us at the moment, "added the specialist."

Ugh not that back injury again ☹️ Let me just shrivel up in a ball and pray for the skating gods to give Zhenya a fast recovery and let her back into Canada ☹️

Oh no! :( But it was obvious to see at the test skates.:(

I thought she seemed in visible pain after the long program :/ poor Evgenia. Hope she makes the right decision for her health

At this point, I just hope she withdraws. She needs to heal. It's almost obvious that she is on her own. (Even if it's not the case, Mishin is perhaps the only coach in Russia that really knows how to work with "adult and problematic" female skaters (that's not an insult to any coach, it's just my opinion), and obviously he is not an option for her right now. )Her programs have HUGE potential, so she can keep them for next season. Zhenya needs to heal and rest, and then go to Canada when she's able. Obviously, I will.support her no matter what, I'm just worried.

Dave from TSL always had an agenda against Evgenia, however, since Brian told Doug off for constantly spilling insider information about Evgenia's training to Dave around 2018-19 and put a stop to it, he has gotten downright nasty. Best is to not watch them, I do not watch them and can therefore live in peace. In general the way they talk about women compared to men is especially concerning and says a lot to me about them as people and their world views.

I made a comment defending her and saying Dave couldn’t stop being mean to her and I got an infraction. I don’t understand why.

We’re all talking about how much hate she gets from TSL, why haven’t all the other comments about it been deleted?
