It's rather sobering, isn't it, to think that Trusova, Kostornaia and Shcherbakova are already starting to be overtaken in people's minds even though - due to absolutely no fault of theirs - they have yet to go to/medal at a single senior Worlds/Olympics?
Sobering is the right word. It is possible that the pace of ladies' figure skating has accelerated to the point where now our stars have a two-year trajectory instead of four. Those who hit their peak in the first two years of an Olympic cycle will have no chance against those who come along directly after.
We will have to see what happens. But I think it is this possibility that has the ISU thinking about splitting the sport into technical skating and artistic skating.
