So

I dont remember, but will ESPN still be doing coverage? Or are we not getting GP events or Short Programs at all.

I'm not sure either, but I think I read they will be covering the GPs outside of the US. I think they will give 3 hours for each GP. It will be enough to catch up on who's hot for Worlds. Sadly this spells demise for ABC.

I don't think IceNetwork will cover anything outside the US so GPs in 2008 will be by the grace of youtube.

I'm hoping to go to Reading on Saturday for the day and then make a trip to Quebec. St. Paul and Gothenburg in the future and then on to the Poor House.
Skating vacations are soooooo expensive.

Another thing that wasn't disclosed is whether the primetime coverage for Nats will also be LIVE on the west coast, or whether it will be delayed to fit into the 8-11pm slot...

2008 U.S. Championships

Jan. 27, 4-6 p.m. EST (LIVE)

How unfortunate. There will be no way of watching it live in Europe. None. The outcome is the same, no matter which company takes it over.

But you can get tidbits on Youtube. :p

Yes, but it's not the same as watching things live, on your big flat-screen, yelling 'Johnny you %^$&%&^%&$$, what &^ %$^$ are you doing?!' (in Russian, of course). An unknown joy.

Well, it IS *US* nationals, right? I don't think national championships would be televised live in other countries as well...(I don't know of any that are)?

East Coasters who get the CN8 cable network were able to see some of Japanese Nationals a few months after the fact, though...that was a welcome surprise.

It will be enough to catch up on who's hot for Worlds. Sadly this spells demise for ABC.

Oddly enough, while browsing at heather's TV schedule, something jumped out at me: she put up the 4CC and Worlds coverage by ESPN about a week ago, and she has the ladies free skate and free dance listed for ABC Sat. evening 6-9pm...I'm not sure if that's a typo or not, because I thought they would no longer be televising any comps.

I *hope* it's not a typo, but who knows? It could be possible that they might be attempting to capitalize on those who watched the NBC Nats coverage but don't get ESPN...?

I thought NBC was gettings all events in America till 2010, and that ESPN still had internationals this season... So NBC has Skate America and Nationals for this season, I donèt know about the next one, though.

IIRC, it's a three-year agreement. So NBC will have SA and Nats next season, and the following season.

Checking out RD's browsing and I got the same jump out. Here it is:

Sun. Mar. 2 4-7 Four Continents ESPN2
Thurs Mar. 20 7:30-11 Worlds (Mens Short & Long, & Original Dance) ESPN
Fri. Mar. 21 7:30-11 Worlds (Ladies Short & Free Dance) ESPN
Sat. Mar. 22 6-9 Worlds (Ladies & Pairs Long) ABC
Sun. Mar. 23 5-7 Worlds (Exhibitions) ESPN
Mon. Apr. 7 9-11 Worlds ESPN

This is fantastic, if true. (Some of Heather's schedules have been wrong in the past.) ABC/ESPN have the know-how for this and local technicians will know the ESPN technicians.

Anyone know about Euros?

I've seen stuff on Youtube and other video places where Scott Hamilton's US nationals were shown in Japan/other countries... not sure when/why or anything
but I'm sure it happens occasionally...

WDW had Japanese coverage of a GP event in 04 on one of it's channels (I think it was the Japanese Disney Channel, but still lol)

Finally! I have been checking everyday and of course, the day i don't check, it's up!

It seems IceNetWork's timing is different from Heather's timing. Heather's shows 3 and 3-1/2 hours on some of the events while IceNetWork just puts in 2 hours. I guess it's a wait and see.

btw, Heather has now put in Euros!!!

So does this mean everything we get to see from Skate America will be bundled into one 2 hour show?

On TV, yes. Those who subscribe to Ice Network I believe can get additional live coverage via internet stream.

I believe it's just ladies LP and Dance FD. I suppose 1 hour for each discipline. Twelve Ladies and 12 dance teams, plus sponsors' adverts, plus kiss and cry with scores. You figure how many singles and how many couples to be shown?

NBC's object is to get people interested in figure skating for the Olympics. They do not have to worry about the fans of figure skating. It's all those casual fans that drifted away with the SLC scandal.

Joe

say what you will, but you can't knock NBC with trying to lose as little money as possible with showing these events...

the interest in skating as far as advertising/ratings go just isn't there. and NBC is not going to just gear its programing to a dedicated few...

And those of us who can't even dream of one can live vicariously through you - and thanks (TONS) in advance for all the great skating reports from your vacations.
