Alina Zagitova

Hopefully, if nothing untoward, like the health regulator closing all sport venues, happens, we'll be able to see that soon:

"On November 6-7, the CSKA Arena will host the Figure Skating Lovers Festival - one of the brightest and most spectacular events of this fall with the participation of the best Moscow figure skating schools.

The festival will host the first stage of the Moscow City Cup and the competition among adult amateurs "MozerTeam". The culmination of the festival will be an unforgettable gala evening, with world figure skating stars performing for the guests of the event: Alina Zagitova, Artur Danielyan, Javier Fernandez, Tiffany Zagorski - Jonathan Gureiro, Victoria Sinitsina - Nikita Katsalapov, Tatiana Volosozhar - Maxim Trankov."

All I know about Elon Musk is he is a guy with a lot of money.
And didn't he send something into space just recently?

I'm still glad they changed the "backloading bonus".
Because Alina will stand as the only senior skater to do a fully backloaded long program.

Off on a tangent....
I loved the way "journalists" like a certain Christine Brennan tried to insinuate the bonus was some sort of "all of nothing deal".
Not actually saying it, but inferring that you had to fully backload to get the bonus and Alina was gaining some monstrous scoring advantage from it.
When in fact, a fully backload program was worth just a couple of more points than an almost backloaded program.
And as we found out at 2018 Worlds.... There were definite risks involved in backloading everything.

What won the 2018 Olympics for Alina?
Her having the "balls" to attempt the 3Lz-3Lo late in the program, after aborting the first attempt.
Courage and grace under pressure. If Alina had fallen on that combo, maybe it would have knocked her off the medal stand entirely.
True, but he also has some rather disruptive ideas in energy sector in general, so I’d say he’s a revolutionary in his own regard.
I’d say Alina squeezed out absolute maximum from old point system, not just in terms of backloading bonus. She did it all to get more than +3 on every single thing, including complex entries and exits, beautiful rippons and of course her majestic spins. Judges were practically cornered to give her +3 on every jump. I’d say the expansion into +5/-5 and removal of rippon bonus is also a consequence of her skating lights out with all these things. There was simply no more room for growth in terms of GOEs, she’s done it all, so they had to think about making it more difficult to hit a maximum GOE for jumps.

however! Unlike Elon, Alina comes from a much more humble background.

I know in my heart this thing has a good chance of not happening because 2020 is allergic to joy, but I am going to be happy about the possibility of it for as long as possible!

:yahoo:
My first thought was "yeah - I'll believe it when I see it".
But for today October 10, 2020 I'm going to let my bananas dance until the wee hours of the morning.
And continue to be "cautiously optimistic".

I would like to take this time to issue a PSA about mask wearing....
"A MASK IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE A DECORATION FOR YOUR CHIN!!!!"

YouTube's algorithm thought I needed to see this video. :) Indeed, although it would be more enjoyable if I spoke Russian. Still it's a nice long highlight reel of her accomplishments and sponsors. Here is the translated description paragraph under the video - Alina Zagitova is an example of how talent, hard work and the ability to gather will into a fist lead to the heights of professional recognition. By her age, the skater has compiled an enviable list of achievements, including victories at the Olympic Games, World Championships, Europe and Russia. Alina Zagitova is the first among Russian women and the second in the world "Grand Slam", having won all possible titles in figure skating. Next, we will tell you how Alina Zagitova lives and how much she earns.
