GS wasn't loading for me for a while there so belated thoughts on Aliona: dress is okay, could be better. I really liked the beginning of the program and there were some nice moments here and there and at the end that make me think this program could be a stunner with more mileage. I do wish they'd stuck more with Nocturnal Animals than R&J-- the darker tone is more interesting and it's always nice to hear music you've only heard ten times before vs fifty.
Generally, this is likely to be a transition year for her and she could've done a lot worse. I also think it helps that neither Sasha nor Anna (nor, for that matter, Kamila) are exactly working with choreographic masterpieces in the free either. As exciting as it is to watch Sasha go for the quads, by far the best parts of her program are the opening and the final step sequence, the middle always loses my attention, so I can't agree that Aliona suffered by comparison skating after Sasha today. IMO, anyway.
