2025-26 Russian Junior Grand Prix - Stage 5 - Moscow

Wow, Lidia barely off the podium...sad for her, but give she only got her jumps back 2 weeks ago, 4th is still a good result here. She'll have more time to improve things for next week and just needs to aim for another top 4 finish there.
Happy Kostyleva got the win here, but her program is just not it...I'd barely even call it a program
Also, imo, Labutina should have been above Streltsova

I don't generally think her PR is worse than the average junior. It's probably above average in her SP. I think her 5 seconds entries are the biggest problem. It makes the program extremely empty. It will always affect the FS the most because of ultra-c.

Caught Fedotov at the end just for fun. Nice skate!

I think men take more time to develop their PR than the girls. He is fast and can be engaging, though. He should become very impressive as he ages.

He was already perfect (for his age) in 2022/23 and 2023/24 season, but last season he started to grow and it was difficult, though now he seems to be returning to his best form. I hope he also restores 4Lz.

What happened to Voronov? Did he sustain injuries before this season?
I'm also curious...I know he had a recent coaching change, but that doesn't explain his absence from the earlier stages :scratch2: can only assume he was injured based on that + his performance here

Well, she's better than the average junior...but you're not wrong, the long entries just take up time in the programs and attribute to the emptiness. Not sure why they insist on this, when she she can do them with shorter entries. Perhaps it's to give her even just a little extra rest time

I was thrilled that Labutina medaled though. She is more like a skater outside of Russia who has to travel hours to find ice. I love to watch her jumps.

Funny thing, Labutina does actually travel hours for ice. She lives 120km away from her trainer, who is in Ekaterinburg, while she lives in Nizhny Tagil. Some days of the week she bears the commute, while the rest are spent training alone with her mother (who also used to be a skater) at the local rink.
