Same I have and MS in mechanical engineering and I love stuff like Teen Wolf, Supernatural, Harry Potter. I even rewatch the first Twilight film pretty often. I don’t know why people pretend they don’t like cheesy things just for the sake of appearing mature. If you don’t then you don’t, but there’s no need to shame the rest of us

I’m gonna insert a plug for The Sun Is Also a Star. Anyways, Twilight can go in the trash can and you know what can join them? Books by John Green. He’s so annoyingly pretentious. But I’m big on Harry Potter. Supernatural’s first five seasons were great as was Teen Wolf’s first two. Matter of fact, I nicknamed Makar Ignatov Stiles since I think he looks like Dylan Obrien.

Yeah yeah yeah this is very off-topic, but so what? Actual meaningful discussion on Russian ladies is rare in this thread anyway.

Quoted for truth! I enjoy a funky program in figure skating I have to say. For example I'm a huge fan of Sofia Sam's SP this season. It's so different from the music to the choreo to the costume. It's really fascinating.

I'll say one thing for Aliona's SP, the music is a total earworm! It's been stuck in my head all day even though I enjoyed other programs more

I applaud Aliona for skating to what she loves, you go, girl!

By the same token Liza N skates to super classical stuff, but she seems to love it so that makes the program enjoyable As they say it takes all kinds in the world.

Valieva's SP doesn't have a 3A(yet) either and it's probably the best SP this season. There is no perception bias here, only some people are just in denial. Fact is a 3A really is just an added bonus. You can bling a substandard program all you want, it's still a substandard program.

Wrong. That 3A would only highlight the fact that the rest of the programme is completely boring.

It’s not only about the 3A with Aliona because she’s a beautiful skater with or without it. I think a lot of people would agree her best programs were without the 3A, anyway. Departure from her junior season, R&J, Adios Nonino Still, her 3A is a thing of beauty and everyone wants her to get it back soon! Her programs being lackluster are a different issue of choreography, music, and not being in top form (yet) but there’s still time. Plus, even if these aren’t her best, she’ll have more chances to have great programs (with or without a 3A) in the future

Hey, me too, there‘s nothing wrong with that! If I was a figure skater, I‘d totally do a Harry Potter or Hungergames program haha.

So, I don‘t think there‘s a problem with Aliona skating to pop music but rather that the program is just... not good. (well, Twilight wasn’t brilliant either but she sold it, so let‘s wait, I guess?)

It‘s just a little all over the place at the moment, the two songs don‘t fit together very well, the cuts are distracting and a little jarring. (gets better the more you watch it, though) I just feel like for this season, it‘s fine but next season, they‘ll need to step it up and play to her strengths more. She can still do that with music she enjoys but the actual choreography could (and should, for an Olympic season) be better. Just my two cents, though.

I more meant there's nothing wrong with liking it haha - and if she likes it she's probably more likely to sell it haha.

Hmm, oooh Harry Potter one could be super cool! Hunger Games maybe not..I like Hunger Games haha I would just probably prefer that the competition didn't feel like the hunger games arena hahah

Haha right?!?! Honestly some YA books are deal with topics better and have better more intriguing plots and character development than adult books haha. And besides, it's entertaining and relaxing - it's supposed to be fun.

Ooh that's on my (evergrowing) list of books to read. Twilight I enjoyed as a teenaged and haven't read/watched since - Team Jacob haha! - but I def wouldn't judge anyone, especially a teen, for liking them haha. The soundtrack was actually lit though haha. Harry Potter, yessss! Ravenclaw is my house haha!! (Although, I can't stand Cursed Child or Fantastic Beasts.) It's crazy to me that Supernatural is done ow haha.

Sorry for getting it sooo off-topic haha. I just wanted to defend "guilty, happy pleasures" like YA fiction haha.

I think people want her 3A back because she's more competitive with it and they want to see more of her, particularly at increasingly bigger competitions - Euros, Worlds, Olympics!

She's definitely a stunning skater without it - in fact her 2A is second to none! And she's capable of being essentially unbeatable by everyone but Sasha, Anna, (and Kamila?) without it due to her innately gorgeous skating skills and technique. However, I think that's why people are a little disappointed maybe and want her to get back in form (outside of the 3A) - because she is capable of more and does seem to be not quite in peak shape yet, not just on jumps but on skating skills, spins, performance, etc.

Same! Her program was actually one of my favourites yesterday - so quirky yet fun and well-performed!
(I only wish the judges loved it as much!)

Cursed Child is only great seen live. I also did not like it when I read the play, but when I saw it in theater it was amazing and I went back another time and hopefully next year will be my third time seeing it (lol). It is meant to be seen live

...[Alyona] was born to be a figure skater. She has good jumps, good spins. But I absolutely didn’t like the programme and the music. For a skater with such skills, a more interesting and packed programme is required.

Off topic but I haaate John Green’s books. I’ve met him and he’s nice IRL but yeah his books are awful.

Whether a program has 3A or not doesn't really have anything to do with how good the program is.

The programs just mostly are boring and generic.

This is not a normal season it's a disaster of a season and she's allowed to skate in the Russian Cup Series even though she's too young. I understand the rules but they could really use her at this event in Moscow. It is what it is. I expect Sasha to come back and win tomorrow but if aliona gets this watch out! Who knows maybe Liza will surprise us.

If ISU wants to keep up this farce of GP (that in my opinion is just sinking the GP reputation done like this year) international rules shoud be enforced.
If I was the ISU I would have stripped the rank and GP regulations from the GP events and let the organizers free to create the best possible show with what they had (e.g. the skater living/training near enough be part of it).
That would be a better way to promote skating, and skating really needs to be promoted (excep maybe in russia and japan)
