Sasha's Movie -- First Review

I am a fan of Sasha, but I need to admit that seeing her from CSI, she is not that talented as in her skating. Besides, her tiny figure might be difficult to get casting in Hollywood.

Sasha has been taking acting lessions since she did that movie so she has probably improved quite a bit. I hope she has if she wants a career in acting.

Not shocking. Here's the comment:

Damian also made a curious choice in casting figure skater Sasha Cohen in a small but crucial supporting role as Moondance's high school and horsejumping rival. Her performance is pretty awkward and awful.

I'm not surprised at all...after seeing some clips of the CSI appearance, it's clear she's not a natural and has to "try" (the sign of a bad actor IMHO).

It doesn't all fall on Cohen, though...the producer/director had to cast her in the first place. When you play a character with a role significant to the movie's plot (no matter how small) you HAVE to deliver.

But from this guy's point of view the entire movie is kinda cheesy (what I would expect, anyway).

I bet Sasha did just fine. Who cares what the critics say? I can't wait for this to come out on free TV!

Well her performance is critiqued as awkward and awful. The horse is a show stealer.

Well, I remember Sonia Henie's movies where she would be seen reading the cue cards which I thought was awkward and awful, but she had some wonderful production numbers of skating in that era.

I think Sasha should find a skating story for the movies and we will have at least some pretty moments of skating.

I guess the golden days are over when an Olympic athlete could segue into a movie career featuring his or her sports talent.

Swimming champion Johnny Weissmuller made a bundle playing Tarzan in a dozen movies. Buster Crabbe appeared in more than 100 films, playing Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, cowboys and adventurers.

Esther Williams was featured in 30 or so films in which the story line somehow revolved around swimming and diving shows. (In 1952 she broke her neck in a diving stunt while filming Million Dollar Mermaid and ended up in a body cast).

Exactly; Alas, poor Sasha was born too late....

Also, even if she's not trying to be the next Julia Roberts, given her demeanor I don't think she'll never get to become everyone's sweetherat. She just always sounds haughty to the point of being ignorant, I can never think of her as an empathetic human being, but someone that only cares about herself and her goals.

I know. What is really a pity, however, is the posts that I have read about the way she interacts with, not only her fans, but also young kids who have come to see her skate -- not haughty at all. It's just a question of some of her mannerisms.

As to Oly athletes changing careers into movies -- maybe, the movies will start stressing the athletics more. After all, isn't the new "in" thing to stress fitness?

saw a preview of this moive and thought it looked pretty good, so I'll wait until Iget a chance to see it.

You're right. But I think that's just a side consequence of being so driven. You can easily begin to live in "your own world" (and IIRC she's even admitted this herself). IOW, it's not necessarily a bad thing, but it may not win you a bunch of friends, either.

One thing's certain though- I'm not seeing this movie, it's not my type of film, so I will rely on reviews and impressions. Apart from this one, someone else on the Cohen forum gave her performance a glowing review (keeping in mind that it was a fan of hers, lol).

Highly doubt she'll take that particular review to heart. She is still claiming she wants 2010 but I doubt she'll actually make it. She peaked four years ago. Time for the Maos, YuNas and Carolines to shine.

Click HERE to go to the official website. Apparently they are counting on Sasha to bring in a few skating fans who ordinarily wouldn't be interested in a "girl and her horse" story. She's featured prominently in the film's poster.

i am not surprised that sasha'a acting was less than good.Yes, she brought wonderful drama and interpretation to her skating, but that's a whole diffrent ballgame. on the ice she was a dancer who felt the music and used her body to create the story. Dancers are not nessicaily good actresses when they have to speak lines.
