Predictions?

Actually, I really wouldn't like if all skaters got "what they earned." It takes away the feeling that a title or a win can be swiped out from underneath you like its nothing, which is a feeling I enjoy.

I would just be happy to see Stephen Carriere on the podium. Bronze would be fine. Oh, and a Davis/White upset would be nice, too, but I don't expect it, so silver for them.

Sorry to be annoying but does anyone have a direct link to the roster for Skate America...I can't seem to get to it and forget who is on the list, thanks.

Unless Emily Hughes has improved, I sincerely hope she doesn't make it to the podium. I recently viewed her short and long at the latest Worlds, and find her skating quite ghastly. She is completely devoid of any grace or elegance whatsoever. The only thing she's got going for her is that she jumps high.

However, if circumstances permit it, I think the judges will place Hughes over Zhang for the bronze. Caroline's a complete newbie, so she's got that working against her. Ando's the reigning World Champion and will thus score extra brownie points - I predict a first place finish for her if she doesn't have yet another breakdown.

Kimmie will be Kimmie - relatively stable.

Final Predictions:

1. Ando
2. Meissner
3. Hughes (with Zhang possibly sneaking in)

No, Elena skated so badly in summer competitions, as recent as a month ago. It'd be a miracle if she can get on the podium. I love her skating though, when she's on!

Strange as it seems, that is just what some people like about Emily. She is not a petite pixie, she is not a baby ballerina, she is not an ice princess, she is not a diva. Her appeal is as the "girl next door."

Graceful or not, she brings a smile to my face when she takes the ice. :)

Keep your eye on Stephen Carriere for at least the podium.

I like Caroline very much and would like to see her on the podium. Totally mum about Miki and Kimmie. The former is good early in the season, the latter is better towards the end. Podium? yes, gold? dunno/

Pang and Tong will have a little cumuppence with Dube/Davison, Three talented American Pairs should not have been placed in the same GP. Strategy, strategy, strategy, USFS?

It's basically, how close in points will Davis/White get to Belbin/Agosto.

I shudder to speculate on how your next-door neighbour comports herself then. ;)

Nah, gotta have grace in figure skating. That's what this sport is all about. I don't normally appreciate skaters who've earned the labels you mention above, and some skaters are more elegant than others, but Emily doesn't even move across the ice gracefully. It's a tired cliche that people use in relation to her, but she really does skate like a tanker truck, or a bull in a china shop. She gets down so low on her spiral that her hand touches the ice, for goodness' sake. You can aim at having a powerful, strong style of skating, but that doesn't automatically preclude you from doing it with finesse (MK when she chose to, Arakawa, etc).

I also smile when Emily takes the ice, but it's usually a sad one.
