We haven’t seen Nam (or Roman) compete since Four Continents, and only minimal practice footage, so there’s no particular reason to think Nam isn’t still competitive.

Well, in just under a week's time we'll get our first look at quite a few of our skaters for the first (and possibly only?) time this season, though only the senior pairs are scheduled to be shown in the first weekend of Challenge broadcasts.
I was initially a bit confused about why they didn't do all the juniors one weekend and all the seniors the next, but presumably they wanted to have only one live judging panel for dance and so junior dance was moved to the second weekend.

yeah.. must be about logistics as there aren't that many teams in pairs anyways... easier to do junior/senior on week and push back dance. .. I prefer it that way too... less skating all bunched up together for me to watch as I will most likely not watch all the junior events

I know they have posted a schedule. Is there a streaming link and how do we know only Senior pairs are being streamed. Appreciate the info. Looking forward to it.

Sorry, to be clear, they're all being streamed, but senior pairs are the only senior event we'll see the first week; the rest is junior men, pairs and ladies (none of which personally interest me a ton; the only junior discipline I generally enjoy watching domestically is dance, as the best international juniors tend to be seniors domestically).
There isn't a streaming link yet, but it'll be up on Skate Canada's dailymotion page when the time comes (I wish Skate Canada would use its YouTube for these as well; I get that it's a pain in the ass given all the Content ID, but it's just a better platform).

Got it. Thanks for the clarification. It will be good to see some of our Canadoan talent compete again, even if this strange year may have some not at the top of their game. Still going to be interesting. Especially interested in seeing some of the new senior pairs teams that haven’t skated either in the same event or didn’t do both programs for sectionals.

They haven't said either way. Conceivably they'll repeat the arrangement.

i just looked at the streaming schedule for CBC sports for the whole month of January and there is nothing about Challenge... So.. unless they smarten up and include this week... it will be on dailymotion i guess...
For some comps that were on both the CBC and Dailymotion, the DM stream was better and more stable. The problem with the CBC is that if the stream is interrupted (which it is often), you miss whatever is happening at that time. On some platforms (like Youtube) , you get behind, but you don't miss a big chunk or all of your favourite skater.

Notable absences:
- In senior men, Messing and Gogolev, presumably since Skate Canada officials couldn't travel to them and vice versa;
- In senior ladies, Cotop and Pineault; the former didn't get to return to training until fairly late, so I'm guessing she's sitting this season out and focusing on next year;
- In pairs, Walsh/Michaud and Ruest/Wolfe;
- In dance, they don't list Soucisse/Firus, except they were clearly there for filming, so...

Based on Canada's FAQ on the SCC, the top two flights qualify, so does this mean that all of the above are out of Nationals?
How many skaters will qualify for the 2021 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships?
The top two flights in each event will qualify for the 2021 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships, broken down as follows:
- 12 competitors in men’s and women’s (junior and senior)
- 10 teams in ice dance (junior and senior)
- 8 teams in pair (junior and senior)

You can get a bye through (Messing, having been on last year's podium, I believe would be entitled to one even if he wasn't training in America).

Such disappointing news today.
Messing and Gogolev not competing in Canada, Torgashev not competing in US Nats.
The list of Canadian men I'm really interested in is not long, and now two of them are out. Maybe someone new will rise to take advantage of the opportunity, or perhaps a stalwart will rejuvenate my interest. Always hopeful!

Several of the top junior women from Ontario are missing: Lia Periera (1st at sectionals), Michelle Lee (2nd), Fiona Bombardier (7th). Amelia Orzel is missing from Senior women (2nd at sectionals). Hopefully Madeline and Allison are missing because they have a bye. Fewer skaters seemed to be allowed to compete than last year’s challenge (no more than 20) but perhaps that all that qualified and wished to/could compete.
