I just watched the conference that the journalists held with the team captains after the competition. Wow. For me personally, a lot has become clearer and more unambiguous :)

23.54 Evgenia: "As captain, I will speak on behalf of my entire team - we will not admit defeat. And we are proud to have won the audience Award, because people know who they choose" (it's means - "you can't fool people")

To smooth the impression, the press secretary of the federation Olga Yermolina says a conciliatory speech. She says that it was a holiday that gave people a lot of positive emotions "in this time of troubles", and that in this sense it can be considered that "today there are no winners or losers", just win-win situation.

25.00 Alina smiles, doesn't say anything, but shakes her head in denial  Yermolina sees it, smiles herself, but continues: "I'm talking about... like, friendship... I can see that Alina doesn't agree with me... But we are still one team, one national team"

Some journalist asks to give the floor to Alina and Yermolina controversially ends her speech with the words "Alina, of course the red team got ahead and today there is a winner. This is not in doubt.."

25.20 Alina: "Yes, today there is still a winner and this is.."
Evgenia: "Winners in both camps"
Alina: "..Red Maсhine"

Alina makes a rather long pause, her eyebrows begin to take on an independent life, but still her famous good manners take over and we only hear:
25.31 "But we still have the cup"
Evgenia: We congratulate you (the temperature of the words approximate -15 degrees Celsius, or 5 degrees Fahrenheit 😄)
Alina: Thanks
Zhenya rolls her eyes and takes a deep breath

Oh maaaaaan! 😂 Come on, you guys! It's been almost three years since that day, just let it go :)
Even in a cheesy comp like this...

Poor Maiia though.

What can you say, really? You have an exhibition event and these girls still go 120%. The ones nursing injuries were careful to not exceed 110%. Relentless.

I can’t imagine how rabid they will be come worlds and, gasp, the Olympics. The cage doors will open, they will be let loose, and all I can say is good luck world, hope you can withstand the onslaught.

The rest of the world may need to be spotted a few points to make it more competitive.

Also, forget international competitions, they should just start airing the competitions that go on inside the training grounds.

Yeah, it got testy. At first I thought the video was doctored or spliced, but in fact it was not.

Guess once the TV show cameras went dark, the facades were dropped too.

Channel 1 must be ecstatic. They got a great show, their females became more famous, and they got the captains’ cattiness at the press conference.

Next year it could be Sofia Samodelkina, yes. But I'm not sure if I'd say that she's quite on Valieva's level. The year after could be different, however.
I probably stand a bit lonely in this opinion but I honestly think Samodelkina has the potential to be the next big thing.

I think she has all the qualities needed to be great, good artistry, maturity, skating skills, hard but pretty consistent jumps and pretty good spins. Her posture is an issue but only going into jumps and i’ve seen skaters with worse posture be very successful anyways.

I’m rooting for her redemption at the Russian Cup Final!

Just unnecessary drama. RF is playing it up for ratings. Both nice girls who were undoubtedly just tired after a long competition, and perhaps slightly annoyed at each other. Evgenia because Alina got automatic first pick in the higher scoring disciplines. And, Alina because Evgenia's team won the popularity prize. Anyway, why bother with this nonsense? They are both great athletes.

Yeah I see something admirable in Zhenya and Alina going all in and taking it so seriously. I remember watching this (somewhat long) youtube clip of the training session for the exhibition group dance at Skate Canada (2019 I think?). You know, just a fun thing, all the skaters in the competition are roped into it, they only have an hour to practice, it's no big thing. But Zhenya was incredibly interested, giving 120% for all the dance moves, so excited, so dedicated. Why do something if you're not going to go all in?

I don't know as much about Zagitova, but from what I saw at this Channel One Cup it seems she is the same way. Not the worst quality for your star athletes to have!

Well, I've watched every single interview of Russian ladies in last 7 years and never witnessed such exchange. Not even close.
From time to time commentators/experts has been saying weirdest and nastiest things, but the girls are always smooth as silk when facing each other before cameras.

Thanks for the translation! Quite disturbing but not very surprising for me...

Zagitova was annoyed because they implied she didn't won (the actual comp) imo. Downplaying her victory. Girl wanted to make clear that she had the gold or the cup in that case.

OMG, I've just watched the conference! :jaw:
Alina did not let Evgenya and feds walk over her like 3 years ago. Good for you, girl! :cheer2:

Indeed. 15yo Zagitova probably would have akwardly sit in silence in response to the passive-agressive comments. Now she claps back. 3 years is a lot in human life. She was a child roasted by adults now she's old enough to defend herself.

I love the badass attitude at the end.

No. Evgenia has announced the end of her season yesterday. She is still struggeling with her health after Covid and said she has to go back to recovery.
She mentioned she started feeling ill again during the competition if I am not mistaken. The real issue in Russian skating is the terrible way COVID 19 was handled by the federation which has had traumatic effects on many skaters, not some slightly annoyed exchange between one sick skater and one tired skater.I guess the latter drama helps the federation avoid discussing the real issue.

on the side note, please can't we have someone else do Darya's make up ? her make up was so horrible and unblended, it even distracted me from her progams. She is so beautiful, why the heck they even put that much make up on her face. It hides her beautiful features and skin. The colour schemes were also too matronly for her age.
I think Daria likes this makeup. Do you follow her on Instagram? She often posts the dramatic eye looks she does on herself in her stories. It seems like she likes experimenting and doing makeup herself.

I'm all for skaters wearing whatever makeup/dress they like if they chose it. Even if it's a bright green catsuit like Carolina's. It's a great way to express yourself and teenagers often experiment with their styles and makeup is a good vehicle for them. Especially since none of them have a "normal" childhood where they can wear different things to school. It's workout clothes all day.

That's kind of depressing because Kseniia is one of the best full-package skaters out there.
Maybe it would be better for her and Daria to skip the final, work on getting quads + 3As and then come out next season with a full arsenal.
That's the whole point. No one cares about packages any longer. They may be real - may be just imaginary. Moreover, Ksenia never showed Medvedeva's or (arguably) Usacheva's level of skating. But even if she did the standard has been set: you need big jumps or you are out the team. If current senior quadsters start to fail there's a group of young quadsters coming.

Whether Ksenia can learn and perform 3A and/or quads is the only question that matters speaking about her competitive prospects.
