Best 14 year old girl until Akatieva comes along, who will be the best 14 year old until the one after her arrives.

Valieva is good, great even, in many ways. But people used to say the same about the 3A and look where we are now. Utterly outclassed after they were the “ultimate best, historic trio, greatest rivalry FS had ever seen“ just last year.
It's unbelievable isn't it?

Yes Sofia Akatieva seems to be the next great one coming up. She seems to have it all for 13 it's hard to believe. But in a way it's kind of sad how these femen just keep coming year after year because we don't really get to see the 17 and 18 year old girls develop into their twenties because they cant compete at the same level. I wish we could get promoters in Russia and Japan America and other countries involved to host events for schemes in their late teens and twenties whether their artistic specific programs or competitions as well with the ultra jumps than either way is fine with me but we need more competition. We don't need skaters going away at 18 or 22 years old. There just isn't enough Room in Russia right now for the ladies and the girls.

The difference is that Anna and Sasha can still compete and outscore them - and didn't get their spots in spite of the age rule - both of them would likely be going even if there was no age restrictions. That wasn't the case when the 3A burst onto the scene as juniors. Also none of Kamila, Daria, and Maiia are 15 yet.
Kostornaya was 15yo on that pic. That's why i said 14-15yo.
A clean Valieva would probably win against Shcherbakova and Trusova now. If you don't think so, there is also the fact that a clean Zagitova in the free skate would have won rusnats despite their quads. As she could score 155-160 and had a 6 points lead after the SP. But she bombed. That's why they all podiumed. They were not unbeatable clean.

I guess EG wanted to play mad scientist and KV was OK with it.
I'm actually inclined to think it was the other way around. Kamila wanted to try.

And this isn't Sasha going out and falling at something like GPF, RusNats, or Euros. This is a meaningless competition - completely and utterly meaningless. Kamila could have done no jumps at all and it wouldn't have changed her position an iota. And she did show she could stabilize her 3A.

Right now she doesn't need her full layout. A 3A in the SP and a 3A, 4T-combo, 4T in the FS is more than enough.

And it's much better than what the 3A did at 14/15. It's arguably even better than what the 3A did as first year seniors.
It's going to be insane to see what KV adds to her programs next season. If she struggles with it then go back to what she's doing now. I mean at nationals and the team of N.

well it´s not even her first season among the seniors and she did well, better than the 3A two years ago.
True. This was on my supposed to be at you have seizing for Kamilla.

I can't wait for the olympic season but it also terrifies me. ;)

This is not just a fluke or some kind of fase at the Russian ladies are going trio of this is on going on for a few years and will go on for many more especially now that parents want to get their kids into this sport maybe instead of gymnastics.

I know. That's why I said that - I meant that Kamila, Maiia, and Daria are even more impresive.

And I know Kamila can beat Anna and Sasha - she has in fact. She doesn't even need to be perfectly clean (of course they weren't either). You're missing the point though because all three of them couldn't and that's what it would take for Anna and Sasha not to go to World's. Anna especially would go regardless of age rules. Sasha probably too. Even with watered down FS from Kamila, Anna, and Sasha (if they're clean), Maiia can't reach them in BV (even if Maiia also lands two quads like she did here) because the others are worth more - 4Lz and 4F are worth more and all three of them can do their quads in combo.

I've been trying to figure out my feelings about Nana, erm, Frolova. I think she particularly stands out amongst the other CSKA skaters. I suppose yes, her choreography is a little old fashioned and stolen from Carol Heiss' 1956 long program, but I don't think that's it. I love her presentation. But I think I understand the Grandma vibe I was getting from her. I think it might be due to her coloring (hair, skin, eyes) and her classic features. But on ice she fades out and we actually think we are seeing exactly what she will look like at 90! Right?!?!
I totally agree!! It's her look! She looks to me as an "old soul". Well, at least that's why I get the grandma vibes.
I like her though (well I root for almost all the Russian Ladies), but her programs are sooo sleeeepy.
Give her better programs plz.

Its crazy to think that Evgenia or Alina could have got the third spot if they were still in competitive form. I mean Evgenia got 225 in her last competition (Rostelecom cup) and Elizaveta got 226 here in a very inflated competition. And we all thought the 3A were going to end any hopes of other Russian girls going to worlds

Not that crazy. Alina and Evgenia are PCS darlings - both nationally and internationally. There is a reason they're both on the team..and there is a reason Evgenia went to 2019 worlds.

Also it looks like both reigning single Euros champions won't make it World's this year after having the World's they were supposed to go to cancelled. Despite the RusFed doing everything possible to try to help them get there including delaying naming teams and taking additional competitions into account. That said it was a hard ask for both of them - both had injuries AND COVID, although I actually think it was a bit harder for Dimitri. Alena only had to beat one person for the spot. Dimitri needed to beat like 4-5 other challengers. Both tried their best though and I hope for better things for both of them next year <3

A lot of things happened.
A skater needs stability to be stable in his/her skating. They had everything but stability this season.
Even last year there were questions about first Anna (send her back to juniors), then Aliona (she's getting left behind, Eteri doesn't care about her and she's the only one without an ultra-c element), and then Sasha (she can't land her jumps in competition - she's going to lose the third spots at World's) - rolls eyes to all of the above. The fact is though - all three of them weren't invincible even last year, and even at Euros cracks were starting to show. I think they were overworked and under too much pressure - they were still only 15/16 and it was still their first senior season.

Can I just insert some love for Maria Talalaikina here? :love2:

She had a great skate today as well. Not as good as Nationals, but she was a clever girl, missed the first Lz+Toe combo but inserted a 2T after the 2A instead. Then instead of a Lutz-Eu-Sal combo she did a nice Lz+Toe instead, and then later added a 2Lo to the 3F. Well done!

I just LOVE her Maleficent program, I hope we will see it again next season.

I know it won't happen. But I really hope this is the last time we see skaters not completely recovered and barely making it through their programs skating because they feel like they have to. (Although with world's I still think we see it at least once more.)

They're all courageous but I don't want to see Sasha, Liza, Anna, and Aliona skate like this again... Unfortunately I think precedent has been set - and really has been set forever - Evgenia, etc? but...
