Agreed. But is it good though? Sometimes I wish she would stick to a layout and then train it to death... But then again, her experience might allow her to experiment a little. I can't tell which is best.

I think that this is Liza's supertalent.
Also she knows when to bring it on.
She would be half a skater she is without that.

Also, this is sort of typical for "great performer" kind of skaters.

Sorry to interrupt lol, just wondering, since she's been featured on Plushenko's instagram - what level is Valeria Shluskaya on and why cant I recall seeing her skate at all this year? Also did we ever find out why Sofia Muravyeva withdrew from the final?
About Shulskaya, she competed in the two most difficult Russian Cup stages - 2 and 4, and was the last qualifier to RusNats. She wasn't as clean as last year and scored 189+185 (finished 6th and 7th).
Two days before Nationals she withdrew because of COVID.

If Sasha has a 5 quad program I suspect she will fall on at least one quad, and have another fall on a combination like a 3Lo.
I just don't think she has the stamina for it.
So no gold pocketed there...

But I would be happy if she can prove me wrong.

I think that being too competitive clouds her judgement, and she thinks that she can prove you wrong.

It is a World Champion title after all.

Well in Sasha's case, with 5 guads she has a gold in the pocket.
Sasha has never even attempted 5 quads in one program before. She fell on three quads on her one attempt at a 4 quad skate this season. And another time on a 3Lz. She hasn't landed her 4S all season and hasn't even attempted her 4F this year. And she's been injured - being unable to do or train he 3A, 4S, or 4T - although her 4T is now back.

It's a big if though on whether she lands them, for the last 2 seasons she's struggled to do 3-4 quad programs clean in competition, her only clean FS in over a year has been her FS at Nationals this year where she only did 2 quads. I would be very surprised to see her do a 4-5 quad program at Worlds this year for starters she hasn't competed the quad flip all year and between GP Russia and Nationals she was injured to the point the only 'ultra difficult' jump she could practice was the lutz, and 'recovering from injury' was cited as the reason she withdrew from the cup final a few weeks ago. If she's really been injured where she's not been able to practice these jumps and do run-throughs of her layouts with 4-5 quads landed, then I think it's better for her to play it safe even if that means conceding gold to Shcherbakova or Rika, because if she has another event where she bombs that won't look good for her resume to get on the Olympic team next year.

She did plan to do 5 quads at the GPF last year, but she popped the quad salchow into a double. But posted a similar comment, I doubt she's ready to do a 5 or even a 4 quad program.

Both wrong. She attempted a 5 quad program in GPF 2019. She landed a clean 4S in one of the stages of Russian cup https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVOyCTa0kZc

Her best effort is the 4 quads landed at Japan Open last season. The thing though, she didn't score that much anyway. Just 160+ points.

Yes, but the quality of her skating and jumps have improved since then. I am sure she would score higher with a clean 4 quad program now. The issue is that anything over 3 Quads is extremely difficult for anyone other than Nathan Chen. It takes so much stamina. Sasha has been injured and I don't know if she will have the stamina.

Russian airline Aeroflot announced on its website that the national figure skating team will go to the World Championships on a special flight that will include coaches, doctors, officials and the Channel One television crew - 55 passengers in total.

Not judging, but the US has a rule where the whole team can not travel together... how common it is for the whole Russian team to travel to an event together? Going from my faulty memory it feels like the events in east asia seem to have most the team together on the same plane.

I think they are just thinking differently. Going together means that they are in a "bubble" of their own. Their strategy is that they are allready isolated which each other, so they will be safe going to Sweden.

To b out of her five big jumps that competition only one was actually done really well (4Lz). opening 4s was a stunner but she struggled with the landing (as in she landed it but it wasn’t very effortless), 4T+3T had a heavy lean on the landing of the 4T, 4T+1Eu+3S has a three turn out of the quad, and she had a UR on the 3lz+lo. overall if she does four clean quads an a lutz loop of good quality she should be able to win this. She’d get much higher than 160.

And then proceeded to fall on her 4T and pop and fall on her 2Lo. What I meant was she hasn't landed it cleanly and still skated the entire program cleanly.

And I don't call that an actual attempt at a 5 quad program considering she popped her 4S into a double and fell on her 4T. And actual attempt would be at least rotating the 5 quads.

She also under-rotated and fell on her 4T.

By attempt I mean actually rotating 5 quads not just planning to do it. I would call that a 4 quad program. She only landed three of her quads cleanly that program and scored less than Anna who under-rotated and fell on her 4Lz.

I looked and couldn't find an answer to your Muravyeva question, but as a consolation prize we can watch her skate in Plushenko's Swan Lake extravaganza from back around the holidays:

I was sad not to see Muravyeva at the Final, but my guess is that after her bronze at Nationals she had nothing left to prove, and they decided it was better to end her season on this great note, than to risk her not being on the podium (much like why Anna and Sasha had no business being at the senior Final either). I think it was a good move, and I can't wait to see her again next season, she's really lovely to watch 💜
