I wonder if there will be skaters that aspire to be a World Team Olympic champion almost as much as an individual Olympic Champion. It will take time but it would be nice to see. Right now, it is a secondary after thought and really quite anti-climatic. The cheer zone IMO is corny but may become genuine over time I hope. The US cheer zone for Jason and Nathan was a shame. Crickets! Lol....... learnings in motion I guess.

I remember seeing Nam and Roman both skate sometime in 2014/2015 and thinking they both had some really nice qualities to their skating and great potential (this was also the time when there was a lot of hype around the Nam vs. Nathan rivalry haha... how things have changed!). Six years later and I'm still thinking the same thing. They both could become reasonably competitive on the international scene IF they can find consistency... but that is, of course, much easier said than done.

True! I guess I mean season to season. There always seems to be a major international comp where he just doesn't do very well, which unfortunately prevents him from gaining the reputation of being a "consistent" skater
In the lead up to PyeongChang, I think Scott in particular was vocal about how a few of the Canadian skaters from Sochi regretted that they hadn't taken the team event more seriously than they had, since it was still a chance at an Olympic medal. We saw four years later that they all took it more seriously - I remember interview clips where a few skaters mentioned that they especially wanted Patrick to have an Olympic gold medal, and we also saw that even though teams could make up to two substitutions (particularly seen with the pairs, whose individual event followed the team event), Canada had planned to and kept Meagan and Eric for both programs to secure their chance at team gold. And it didn't seem to affect the pair too badly, since Meagan and Eric went on to win individual bronze

ermmm i thought it was clear that Skate Canada wanted gold for the team event in 2018... they made sure Patrick wouldn't quit right before the games when it wasn't going well at all with him and Zoueva.... and they made sure that Virtue Moir and Duhamel Radford would skate both parts of the event to keep those hopes alive. I think it is Scott who said that the whole team wanted to do it for Chiddy (as well as for themselves and Canada).... considering what happened to Patrick in 2010 (being injured before the home games) and 2014 having a really bad performance.... and coming back just in time for 2018's quads explosion... So yes... I would say that skaters from well-rounded teams care about the Olympic team events... Ask Gabrielle Daleman and Patrick Chan, they are Olympic champions
BUT the WTT and worse the WTC, they do it for fun and the money

The latest TSL states (without explicitly stating it) that Eric is going to come back to competition next season, partnered with Vanessa James.

I thought Eric was happily retired, making music. Why would he want to put himself through the rigors of competition again?
Not that I would be opposed to Vanessa having the opportunity to finish her career on a more positive note.

I don't know. But this actually does fit with other reports I've encountered recently from sources that something big was happening in Canadian pairs behind the scenes.
Maybe he decided he missed it after having a few years off.

It was expressly stated to be Eric (after I made my initial post, I watched more of the video, and they also name Vanessa outright; in the initial discussion they had avoided that, but it was very obvious who they meant).Do we definitely suspect it’s Eric that might un-retire, as opposed to, say, Charlie Bilodeau?
Meagan also stated recently that she and Eric wouldn't be doing shows together in the foreseeable future, but that she was hoping to do shows by herself.

How would they partner without citizenship? Is there something special for pairs skaters to get around that?

Vanessa has actually been a Canadian citizen all her life, by virtue of being born in Scarborough. She's a triple citizen of Britain (by parental descent), Canada (by place of birth) and France (by naturalization).

If true, this surprises me, mainly because Eric is relatively old for a skater (didn't he also have a back injury?) and he seemed happily retired. Probably won't last very long (won't be surprised if it's just 1 season), but I don't doubt it could be great

Dave said that reportedly Vanessa has already been released.
Given all that went down over there, it’s perhaps not hard to imagine the FFSG wasn’t eager to make a fuss.
