Cannot resist to plug in although busy at work.... Oh, I very much hope Meagan is already regrecting her comment! I hope she wrote this in the heat of the moment/emotions...What is so bad for Eric to contiue skating?? She has to be glad about him. Eric is not her belonging. How did feel Robin when Aliona decided to continue skating and not to skatewith him in shows ?? Oh, my, human passions...
I hope she will calm down and instead of being upset will be rather supportive and wishing him succed.
I recall some very heated discussions at the time about Robin and Aljona, although Robin wasn't so heated himself. He just stated that he wanted to retire, that was known by all, but that he hadn't talked about it further in the Team. And when Aljona announced to skate with Bruno, he decided not to do any shows with Aljona any more (except for 1 or 2 straight after Worlds). There's a good interview with Robin in IFS about it (don't ask me for the exact issue, it was in 2014). But I recall Daria Popova, Bruno's former partner, was very upset indeed. Also because she had heard through a third party, not from Bruno himself. And that Bruno felt guilty because he had wanted to tell her himself and not let someone else confront her with this. Talking about emotions...

But I think, as someone else posted above, that Meagan feels betrayed if she heard such a thing as this through the rumour machine and not directly from him. By the way, she isn't mentioning anyone in her post, even if we all (seem to) know whom she is referring to. For me, this is a big surprise. When I was listening to TSL (I am very guilty, I often listen to TSL) and it was mentioned I was thinking 'what is going on now?'

The Skating Lesson reposted/shared her post on their Facebook page.
One of the comments underneath asks '...Ok but... what was Eric expected to do if she could no longer compete?...' to which Meagan herself replied 'I never said i wasn’t interested in coming back to competition. Nor was I asked 😉'
I initially thought she overreacts, but if it was like that... No wonder then. I would feel the same. (#DRAMA!)

I mean, Eric is taking away her ability to earn money while skating. She likely won't be hired for shows as a singles skater. Most shows
Didn't Aliona took that oprtunity away from Robin?? Did Robin ever put any shades on Aliona even if it hurt him as you say here " earn money"??

I mean, Eric is taking away her ability to earn money while skating. She likely won't be hired for shows as a singles skater. Most shows already only take 1 or to pairs teams. I don't think it is wrong of her to express how she is feeling. Everyone else is speculating too. Everyone was really quick to defend Charlie, but it turned out that he did burn both of his partners. If Eric wants to come out and say something too, fine, but I don't see anything wrong with Meagan expressing herself.
Well both Eric and Megan are individuals; they are not property. But I don't think they are eligible to the olympics being from different countries. They are both getting up their in age so another 4 years after 2022 seems unlikely. Plus if Eric is thinking finacially better for show skating to be a two time world champion, Olympic bronze medallist and multi olympic team medallist than a huge lot of nothing right now. So would they skate for Canada? I do think they have potential but their ages don't look great for 2026. Injuries et al. But as James in my opinion never relied on that romantic vibe then Eric isn't bad choice. He had a powerful intricate relationship with Megan on ice. This could work. Too bad this doesn't help Canada - they need a solid lady - hey Megan how is that triple lutz?

I don't think Robin did (see also my earlier post). The situation is not the same though. I recall many interviews with both Eric and Meagan that they were planning to retire after the Olympics, interviews after the Olympics when they both said the same, and a lovely book (soulmates on ice) in which it was very clear they shared the idea of retiring and doing shows but also entering new lives. But....circumstances change. I for one think Meagan just showed she was upset, but still didn't name anyone (which is pretty decent when you're upset), and We will see. That Liubov reacts to Meagan's post is totally understandable, as she was dumped by Charlie in the worst possible way (I really can't think of a way to phrase this in a more friendly manner), and she sympathises. I agree with other posters in that I think Evelyn and Trennt have done a good job in holding up Canada's honour and this should be acknowledged.

I can't help but like the idea of Eric and Vanessa skating together though....

I don't really see how an Eric and Vanessa partnership even works. He had pretty bad back injuries and Vanessa is way taller than Meagan. Eric never had the most explosive pair elements and that became more apparent with his injuries. This whole thing is really confusing. Investing in Evelyn and Trennt is the winning long-term strategy and Skate Canada really needs to assess what their long-term goals are.

KMT is liking all shorts of tweets disliking this, so maybe the skaters know more? Or she's speculating
Or—the prospect of additional “wild card” competition in the ranks of Canadian pairs, especially in what is probably MTM’s final season, does not fill her with delight.
As the British Eurosport uncles might say, if true, this throws the cat amongst the pigeons.

Of course KMT is upset. It's just weird to see her be so publicly upset, especially when this new pairs team isn't even confirmed

Why would Radford or James try to make their comeback the year of the Olympics that seems rather foolhardy to me. They needed to come back no later then this season if they were serious. I can't see them going until 2026 they are both in their early to mid 30's.

well... we hadn't had drama in the Canadian skating thread in how long??? oh wait... we get it pretty much every year when pair boys misbehave ;) hi Charlie :)

I think Meagan is just angry that Dave from TSL found out before she did, since she's usually the one revealing stuff to Dave...

Just kidding...

I am a bit confused about this new pairing.... and I don't see it being logical at all for Eric... if he ever wants to skate shows again... it would have to be with the partner with whom you are world champion and olympic medalist. Very strange...

But if he doesn't care about shows that much, and really wants to compete... why not asking Meagan? Is it because he wants to try something new? Is it because Meagan is extremely competitive and would want to win if they were back together but with a new pairing, expectations will be low and will allow him to experience something different? Eric is very artistic. I don't think Vanessa is. She is athletic and explosive. I don't see how that would work out that well.

And I am sorry but, if Deanna gets the OKAY, she and Maxime Deschamps will not just step out ... actually, people are mentioning Evelyn and Trent but those two do not have the second spot locked forever at all.... They are there because other teams are injured, many have retired and some are newer... so I won't feel badly if they get passed by Maxime and Deanna, or any other team... it's not the same as Virtue and Moir returning and making it impossible for everyone else to be on top ever again :)

Actually, Kirsten should be relieved that Meagan and Eric are not back together... because that would have hurt them... but then... as they train with Bruno... of course...

I have once shown how pairs are so interrelated in Canadian skating... the genealogy tree is fabulously crooked and branches are interwoven .... so i guess there are a lot more subtleties to just the return to competition...

Honestly, I would like to ask a honest question to Meagan (btw I adore her, and I have always done) Do you really want to return to competition now that you have a baby and have said so many times that you love your new life, as a coach and a mother, less in planes and more at home??? I was very convinced that she liked her new life much better... so if she had been asked and said no,..

BTW @skaterboy : please stop belittling Canadian ladies. Fine... they do not have quads and triple axels... but Meagan would not be able to compete with the current crop of young promising talent there is right now. A little respect for Madeline and others would be appreciated. The joke might have been funny a few years ago... but it's no longer appropriate.

The one thing I don't think we know is who wanted to come back first? Pure speculation of course, but I actually think it was Vanessa who wanted to come back first and asked Eric. as obviously she'd need a partner. Not Eric looking to come back to competition. I think if it was Eric who wanted to skate competitively he'd have asked Meagan. I think Meagan was just blindsided as she assumed they would do skating shows.

Also this isn't Tessa and Scott coming back and automatically being Canada's number one and a contender for OGM. (That was worse for Kaitlyn and Andrew and Piper and Paul, etc.)

This is a team who has never skated before and neither won an OGM before leaving. They're also coming in the year of the Olympics.

They're coming in as a challenger for Canada's second pair.

Although that said, I disagree that skaters have earned the right to be named by "waiting their turn" or "because they deserve it". The best should be the best.

Wouldn't surprise me if TSL broke this story before Eric had a chance to speak to Meagan himself - those two are trashy and awful and everything wrong with figure skating.

My hope is that this will convince Meagan not to go on their Godawful show anymore...no one should go on their show TBH, they're nasty, toxic bullies. I actually reported them to YouTube (among other things their constant insutiatons about Aliona K and Sergei Rozanov were utterly disgusting - Aliona is a minor after all), but alas no response yet.

I have to say I'm surprised Meagan did make that post! I'm not sure she's a popular as Eric :/ Is she getting much support?

Really, there WAS no 'season' this year, particularly for Canadians. No Autumn Classic, no Skate Canada, no Canadian Nationals. There's no way they would have been sent to Worlds or WTT as a brand-new team with no official standing.
