I guess with the competition in Russian ladies being what it is and her being born in late 2006 and not having an Ultra c jump could have affected her decision. She did win elder novice nationals and finished 7th in jr nats which would have guaranteed her a JGP spot so im really sad we never will see her compete internationally in juniors. I still think she could have gotten a quad or 3a under Davydov had she been transferred into his group.

Well, that is depressing. Never mind that she had excellent skating skills, great presentation, musicality, unique jump entries and good technique (literally one of the only ones who managed to make a +2T+2Lo combo look good and fully rotate it). But no quads, so... away with her. And she‘s, what, 14? 15?

Everything else I could say would end in a rant on the “evolution“ of this sport, so I‘ll just leave it here. I do wish Liza all the best and hope for her talent to be appreciated properly in pairs.

I think its because Nastya Zinina moved from Panova to AOP last month and she made it into the novice national team.

Promising girls with no quads out of the box considered useless and phased out too early.
Pairs beginning to be my least favorite among all the FS styles due to over the head complexity and danger.

I'm kinda shocked that Zhilina was left off. Yes, she was a hot mess of a train wreck last season, but she did have Covid and it wasn't a typical season. Maybe it is a RusFed sign that she needs to return to Eteri and have a real coach?

How do you make these conclusions? How can you not understand that the Russian Federation takes into account only the current sports form of the skater and not his past merits.

From what's been said, Russia pretty typically goes with the top 6 at Nationals, Zhilina finished 12th at Nationals, had she perhaps gone to the Cup final and done quite well they might have done similar for her to Kostornaia, but she finished 8th, so I don't see how the Fed could reasonably overlook her results and put her on the team over another girl.

Russia is filled with talented skaters, far more talented skaters than they have spots, be it for funding or competition spots, and Zhilina is crazy talented but its more than just executing elements for social media posts, it has to be done in competition and this season, especially at the 2 big events of the season, Cup final and Nationals, she didn't execute.

According to the information in her Fan Fest she turned 14 in December, there was probably an understanding that she was unlikely to be on the team after she finished 7th at Jr. nationals. I think the switch has more to do with her prospects of getting a quad or triple axel, unfortunately right now in Russia being top tier technically is who is going to be successful and get international assignments. Given that she's not on the team her chances of getting an assignment were probably pretty slim, that means that she would have been 15 almost 16 next year and hoping for a spot on the junior national team and the junior grand prix, that doesn't sound promising of having a really successful international career as a singles skater in Russia right now or for the foreseeable future. Now she can spend a few years in junior pairs and develop those skills as its not uncommon to see pairs skaters stay in juniors later.

The fact that a 14 year old kid who can do quads and a triple axel - two things that very few human have ever done, is almost assumed not have a chance at success just speaks volumes - both good and bad for a hundred reasons - about this sport.

You make it sound like this girl quit skating lol. It's not like she suddenly lost everything that made her good. I looked her up for the first time, and she's a nice skater. I think she can still have a great career. In this current ladies field, she's just another face in the crowd. Who knows, maybe she could be a star in pairs. There's just too much talent in ladies right now, so if some of that spills over into the other disciplines, I don't see how that's necessarily a bad thing.

What about Anna Frolova ? I don't understand why she is on the Junior team, isn't she old enough to turn senior ? Are there some requirements to fill that she didn't, or maybe it's a deliberate choice from her team ? I guess that seniors are going to be intense this season with the Olympics, but the juniors are pretty packed as well with all three Sofias, Berestovskaia and Zhilina to name only a few.
