2020-21 U.S. Men's Figure Skating

Maybe, but he doesn't start Columbia until 2022.

And he has competed in the senior comp at Philly, as you know:)
Yes, but Joonsoo Kim competed in both. That same year. I am not sure Philly International is taking place this year. I called Iceworks and asked and was verbally told it was happening. However Sylvia Unseen says it isn’t.

I'd believe the rink it's supposed to happen in over an anon poster on social media.

I’m so torn … we have Olympic Gymnastics Trials happening here late this month…not sure I can afford both. ..

Well, I saw Dice Murakami skate in the club comp in 2017,;) (although that was unusual circumstances I admit and unlikely to be replicated)

If I am reading this correctly, how in the world are they going to enforce a six foot distancing rule on those benches? And won't that reduce spectators by 2/3?

That’s for the Summer Championships, though, which is the annual club competition. The page for Philadelphia International, which is the comp we are all waiting to hear about, still shows the 2019 information. Keeping the fans in suspense, as usual!

Plus ... Sylvia in person in real life is known to plenty of people throughout the U.S. skating community, including (but not limited to) elite competitors/coaches/parents and credentialed journalists. Also to fans of the sport such as yours truly, who repeatedly has witnessed (in person) her in-person relationships with all of the above.

I have no doubt that her "network" (grown over many years) also includes insiders at clubs/rinks such as IceWorks.
I think most of us will remember from years past that USFS and the LOC have not officially published Philadelphia International entry lists online in advance. Thus the suspense mentioned by Seven Sisters.
Based on her own sources, Sylvia in years past sometimes has been able to report names of some or all Philadelphia International entries in the days leading up to the event -- well before a hard-copy official list is posted on the wall at IceWorks.
(Sylvia has not been the only helpful resource re Philadelphia International, but she has been one of them.)

Sylvia is not 100.00% infallible -- no human is -- but FWIW, I also will vouch for her sense of responsibility when she shares information. Accuracy is important to her, and she is judicious as to what she shares.
For me, she is not anonymous, and her words do carry weight. For me.

Please don't get me wrong: I also am appreciative to moonvine for sharing her own reporting. :thank:

I await definitive resolution one way or the other as to whether Philadelphia International will be happening in 2021.

Is this Max Naumov's first quad in competition? It looks like he landed a 4S in his SP at Colonial Open.

Congratulations to Naumov not only for success with his first quad attempt, but also for a strong short program to start the Olympic season. Positive GOE for everything and all Level 4s.

(I see that his free skate did not go as well, but I remain hopeful that he can build upon his momentum from last season.)

I never said Sylvia was UNKNOWN to all. Definitely not anon to many of us. I just said I'd still trust a rink where a comp is happening over an internet personality. Yes, she may know stuff but again, she's not the rink who in this situation would be closest source. Common sense.

Where there is a will, there is a way. At the high school where my daughter coaches, for example, they limit guests to one per competitor—who must register in advance—and put little sticker things on the bleachers six feet apart, with directions to sit on a sticker. There are also temperature checks at the door. Spectators not affiliated with a competitor are allowed in only if the maximum number of permitted guests is not reached.
That said, I hope Philadelphia International does take place this year, and that if so they allow at least some spectators (I would be fine with a requirement to buy a ticket in advance, first come first served,)

Cautionary tale:
The longtime host club for a different U.S.-based international skating competition (which has been part of the ISU calendar for years) told its members (in writing) in early 2021 that (as of then) it "expects" USFS to hold the 2021 event at their venue again per usual.
But when USFS later officially announced the 2021 event, part of the announcement was a different location.

The point being that it is possible that what anyone involved at a local level has said in good faith at one time could be subject to change -- for reasons beyond the local entity's control.
Common sense. ;)

As I said before, I await definitive resolution one way or the other for 2021 re Philadelphia International.
I have found it to be an enjoyable event both to attend in person and to follow from afar, and I will be happy if it can happen again in a few weeks.

There aren’t that many spectators, especially if they only have the club comp. Things are in a state of flux but rapidly improving. At their spring ice show everyone had to wear masks. Now they have dropped that requirement and only Iceworks staff must wear masks. So the 6 feet rule may be dropped by the end of July.

And I spoke directly to Lisa Shaw, not a random person, and she know the difference between the club competition and the International one. And they are almost certainly having Collegiates - they were awarded to them this year. I’m not clear why they would have those two comps and not the International one?

Merely a general observation -- not necessarily relevant to the 2021 status of Philadelphia International:

At least in normal years, the International would be required to meet ISU requirements for composition of the judging and technical panels.
In the broadest terms, the judging and tech panels for the International would need to include officials who are from federations other than the U.S.

In other words, for the International, it probably would be inadequate to just "reshuffle" officials who already would be involved in the club competition (and/or Collegiates).

I have absolutely no knowledge one way or the other whether or not the ISU requirements could be causing an issue this year.
Obviously, IceWorks successfully has hosted the International four times, so it has met the ISU requirements in the past.

I am just mentioning an aspect of the International that would not be quite as simple as lather/rinse/repeat what IceWorks already has organized for the 2021 club competition and 2021 Collegiates.

I just looked and they announced the cancellation last year on June 6. It is likely we do not have much longer to wait either way.

It's good to know that you talked to someone in the know at the rink.(y)

Not a criticism of the ISU ... but for me, a contributing factor to the lack of clarity re 2021 and Philadelphia International is that the ISU has not yet published its full calendar of the 2021-22 season's competitions.

The ISU typically publishes the new calendar in May, but my guess would be that the pandemic is making it more difficult than usual to nail down a comprehensive list of events for the whole season. :(

Yaro must have been officially released by Ukraine. I just saw his name listed as part of the international selection pool.

Sad there's no Torgashev. :( Hopefully, we'll soon see him compete again. Wondering what he's up to.
Me too:(

I realize I'm just a skating auntie, but I am tired of Andrew's jeep and the California beaches in the few IG stories he posts. Tales from the ice, please. :)
