Jason Brown

Complete and total bummer.

So now I'll go into paranoid mood; is that why he is taking so many vacations, he is injured?😭

So disappointing. :( He could be injured, but his vacay shots were on a weekend and over a major holiday, so to me that's not a biggie. My guess is most of the coaches were away between Canada Day through last weekend.

If not an injury (Pleeese!), perhaps he simply didn't get the video submitted in time, or maybe it was of poor quality and didn't send it. Last year's quality wasn't great. Or maybe he changed his mind about the program, or the changes didn't work out.

Anyway, boo.

I guess we'll know soon. I hope it's not an injury. You would think that they would list him as withdrawn, though.

If I am being realistic, there are many other reasons.

Jason simply did not submit a video. And there are of course "normal" potential reasons: Sinnerman simply can't be altered easily to the PFT format. He's keeping Melancholy as an exhibition, and he already entered that. And it's true, the video on Melancholy at last year's PFT, was, ummm, from far away ;)

But not fair, I want to see him skate😫

I'm really bummed out, was looking forward to this. But you're right about that less than ideal, far away video from last year. I completely forgot about the quality of that video lol.

Things are a bit dicey at TCC right now. Yuzu made a public statement that he is not planning to return to Canada and that is how Brian heard about it. He's upset, as you might imagine. Jason has clearly been traveling outside of Toronto and we don't know where Tracy is. So it may not have been easily doable at this time. I sincerely hope that it's not an injury. It is also possible that adapting Sinnerman was more difficult and they may have decided that it is detrimental to change it now when they are fine tuning it for the GPs and Nationals and hopefully the Olympics. And with Jason out, Karen Chen can probably win and Jason loves her and might feel good about that. All speculation on my part except for the first bit about Brian. He's publicly said he's trying to deal with it. From the POV of the competition, Jason was the highest ranked competitor and brings interest and attention to the competition and her perfectly fits the ideal of what they are highlighting. So I'm sure that they are disappointed also. But Jason has a goal for this season and this comp might be considered a slight distraction. However, I am very disappointed to miss an opportunity to watch Jason skate.

That’s not a surprise about Yuzu not returning. I never thought he would. He has not shown an interest in working with TCC. I have a feeling he won’t skate the Olympics. He’s having too much fun being famous and making money. I think he loves to perform and he can do that without the stress of comp

Thread drift, but we are all friends here and I can’t resist.

with Jason out 😭 Andrew T. for the win:hap10: Silver last year.....
Andrew is a possibility for the win. We don't know what his skating level is at this point. We pretty much know where Karen is and she has some serious artistic chops. But Andrew at his best, is a contender.

I think I'll wait till we actually see PFT to ensure Jason isn't included, it's possible it could just be an error. But yeah like others, I don't automatically think "injury" if he's not submitting something, I think it probably is a time constraint and last years entry was so poorly filmed it may have just been a challenge to get something prepared in time. Plus, I don't know if I would have wanted an extended Sinnerman because Jason needs to put all his energy into nailing it as a SP, and practice getting that quad down.
I just feel like if Jason was injured, we wouldn't be seeing so much of his holiday-ing on social media, when he had his concussion last year we had absolute radio silence and that was more concerning to me tbh

Agree with fsst. Didn't hear that about Yuzu but I, for one, will not miss him. This may be heresy but he's never been a favorite of mine. I do think that's pretty unprofessional what he did to Brian though.....who is definitely responsible for much of Yuzu's success. But I quite frankly thought he was always over scored in PCs. Not to detract from his obvious athleticism but I just didn't enjoy watching him. Jason, on the other hand, to get this back OT, is always a pleasure to watch. If he does actually skip PFT I'm sure there are good reasons and probably because he doesn't want to mess with his Sinnerman program or take the time away from training. I keep toying with the idea of going to Nashville but it will be quite a challenge to get there at this point.

Since we're a bit off topic anyway :), I personally find Nathan more enjoyable, jump and non-jump wise, than Yuzuru. And I find Nathan's PCS well deserved, even though I'm not a fan of either one of them. From the top of the top boys, I'm rooting for Jason...and Aliev (most of the time), but I'm with you on Yuzuru not being the most enjoyable to watch (for me personally, my taste). Not to say I'm not wow-ed by him from time to time and his and Jason's frienship was/is the cutest.

I agree that Nathan absolutely deserves his wins. I don't think he has the grace and smoothness that Jason has but I do think he's deserved his marks. I could be terribly wrong but I think when you're doing jumps as he does, choreography necessarily takes a hit. Nathan and Jason are two entirely different skaters but I can find something in both of them that's enjoyable. I felt the same way about Kurt Browning and Elvis Stojko. But you can tell by my avatar who was my favorite. The first time I met Jason it was at the practive rink in Boston. He was so gracious and so humble and I told him up to this point Kurt Browning was my all-time favorite skater but he (Jason) was giving him a run for the money. Got a great hug out of that. I just love that kind of interpretive skating that tells a story. The ability to interpret music and make the viewer lose themself in the program is true art - and there are many skaters out there who don't have it. The jumps and the spins should be part of the music and the music shouldn't just be background noise.

Nathan has upped his choreo game and his skating has become more interesting. He has a totally different style than Jason, because they are totally different people. I prefer a balletic skater and always have. I was a huge John Curry fan. But Jason transcends even that. He's balletic and he's also able to tell a story and he can do post modern dance also. Nathan has a cool edgy style and a slightly cerebral approach to classical elements. And he weaves those jumps into the program as seamlessly as he can. But Quads are still big jumps and don't mesh easily. And he does a lot of them. Yuzu has the same problem. He can tell a story and some of his choreo is really good. But he does all those big jumps and they stick out. But one thing that you can say about all three men is that they don't look like anyone else or each other. They are unique, they are special and they have significant gifts that they can actually perform.

A nice interview with Jason about Evgenia Medvedeva. from her fan fest.
Here the full interview. Jason talks about Brian, Quads, Yagudin, his Schindler's List program and more. It's quite long :)

Great interview. Jason is a kind and thoughtful guy. He is a credit to the sport.
