Hallelujah! This makes so much sense, and I suggested it a couple of years ago when he grew. He is far more built physically for pairs than for singles. I wish him all the best. There's always such a dearth of men for pairs anyway.

And Kaiya is officially our first women's JGP multi-medalist since 2008.
Skate Canada typically sends juniors in search of senior minimums to Warsaw Cup in the fall, but they may want to consider also sending her to Finlandia (once she's had a bit of time off after back-to-back events).

too bad for miku and tyler... food poisoning can suck the life out of you really quickly... i hope they recover fast and come home soon.
Kaiya did well... too bad for the last lutz. It's like her mind slipped for a second (yay I got this.. oups! ) this will be a good experience for her... and yes, send her to a senior challenger soon... even two !

well well well... many have complained that nam or keegan would be sent to worlds or events while Roman did well at nationals/challenge etc... Now, this is Roman's chance to get an Olympic spot and help his own cause !Good luck to Roman Sadovsky at Nebelhorn trophy!!

The choice was obviously between sending Nam and Roman. Both great skaters, but capable of completely falling apart in competition. However, Roman is likely to score better even if not clean due to higher PCS potential and better spins. Hopefully, he has a good day! : )Good luck to Roman Sadovsky at Nebelhorn trophy!!

I don't see anything unconventional, unless you mean 'unconventional' for Skate Canada to promote older pairs champions? First off, it's not unconventional for a young singles guy and his new partner to switch to pairs as Nic and Emma have done. Nic is 23, soon to be 24 in September. So, he still has a lot of competitive years ahead of him if things go well. Vanessa James was a singles skater for the U.K. over several seasons early in her career, and a champion pairs skater representing France for about twelve years. Therefore, her path to skate pairs is not unconventional (unless you feel multiple country switches are uncommon -- today such switches aren't that rare). Vanessa's path to come back and skate pairs in Canada (her country of birth) with a former SC pairs champion could be characterized as unusual, or rare, but it's not unconventional anymore to see veteran skaters coming back to compete, nor even to see Canadians who switched country representation to come back and skate for Canada (e.g., Mervin Tran and Laurence Fournier-Beaudry}.
Deanna Stellato is a champion singles skater and a medal-winning pairs skater domestically for the U.S. It is rather unconventional and unusual for her to come back to skating after 17 years of retirement (she retired due to a hip injury she suffered in her late teens). Her time away from the ice was productive and successful, but she always felt like there was some unfinished business for her in figure skating. Still, it wasn't Skate Canada who 'provided a home to Deanna for pursuing an unconventional path into pairs.' Deanna was already very successful as a pairs skater in the U.S. with former partner, Nate Bartholomay.
Deanna was accepted in her comeback bid as a pairs skater by U.S. fed, because she was good, and things clicked between her and Nate. After Deanna and Nate split due to his injury and subsequent rehab, Deanna was interested in striking out on a path to find another partner. I don't know whether she particularly wished to find a partner in Canada to seek better competitive opportunities or, if it was simply luck and happenstance that she and Maxime found each other. It's not uncommon nor unconventional for skaters born in the U.S. to skate for Canada (there are quite a few, including Deanna, Kaitlyn Weaver, Keegan Messing, Joshua Reagan, Piper Gilles, et al., and vice versa including, Tanith Belbin White, and Mervin Tran, et al).
Deanna/Maxime make an inspired match. They are very well suited to each other physically and aesthetically. I think Maxime is an even better match for Deanna than Nate, and that's saying a lot because Deanna & Nate were very good together. In Deanna/ Nate's career, they won two bronze medals and a pewter medal at U.S. Nationals, and a silver and two bronzes at three international senior Bs (their highest placements internationally).
Above all, Canada is in the process of rebuilding its pairs division, especially at the senior level.

I agree that every skater's journey is fascinating and interesting to behold. I don't think it's particularly unusual, and certainly not unconventional for Nic to switch to pairs, and neither is skating with his girlfriend particularly novel. Although, the fact that they are both new to pairs in their early 20s doesn't always happen. Still, it isn't unusual nor unconventional, as a way for them both to extend their competitive careers as skaters.
As has been discussed, Nic's back injury has limited his competitiveness in singles. So a switch to pairs seems the best way to go. Plus, at his height, he will make a great pairs guy potentially. I look forward to seeing his progress with Emma!
Will they be a mirror pairs duo?

A bit of a nervous skate from Wesley (he looked that way throughout the competition, honestly), but he held on for the gold medal, so everything else is just a learning experience.
Yes to Roman! So happy he gets to prove himself. The choice over Nam was easy. Roman won the virtual event, did better than Nam at both skates at WTT, and then Roman won the SP portion of the event in July High Performance skate (only performed SP) and then won August High Performance event over Joseph Pham and Conrad. He won both SP and FS. So, he is currently the #2 Canadian Man behind Keegan and is the correct choice to send. I just hope he doesn’t collapse in either skate.

agreeing that Roman is the good one to send... but Nam didn't participate in the summer events... so it's kind of hard to compare and gage where our 3 top guys fit.... Is Nam injured? Is he not ready with his programs? Why is he not skating? Was that decided earlier on so he felt there was no point to show in the summer event? ETC ETC... I think that ACI + Nebelhorn results will give us a better idea of how the boys are faring against one another.... assuming that Keegan is on top still... (he will not be in the early challengers).. and then obviously, SCI.... and Nationals... that's really where it will matter... who knows??? Perhaps Nam, as he does have more experience, is planning his season to peak much later in the season and earn an olympic selection... It would be heartbreaking for Roman if he were to earn that spot for Canada and not perform well when it matters....but it's sport... and everyone knows the rules... So hopefully, Roman represents Canada well, and then, may the best men earn the olympic spots.

I agree. I remember him as solely a jumper. However, I found his performance and spins to be quite compelling in this JGP. Great job!

I honestly don't know if I would want to be the person with the responsibility of going to Nebelhorn, lol. A lot of pressure on it. Good Luck to Roman though
