I don't know if Mariah only doing 1 triple-triple is really a concern; she's never been a 'technical' skater; she really does the bare minimum technical requirements and that's how she's been for several years. Is it that her coach doesn't pay attention to her or that there's relationship difficulties - etc. I don't know I've never heard her give an interview suggesting that being a problem, but she's 25 and been with Raf for 5 years, it's not like she's 14-15 and with the same coach that she's had since she first got on the ice; if the problem was the coach-student relationship, then she's as much to blame for not changing the situation.

Last year at Nationals practice Mariah was hitting every jump, everything was beautiful and confident. I wonder if she has just suffered a complete breakdown of confidence after her Nationals meltdown?
Yeah. Also, it was hard to read her emotions on the Kiss n Cry during Nationals, but it was a mix of being pissed (probably at herself), being unmotivated/fed-up and sad. I think she stood up pretty quickly too and left (if I remember correctly)😔

it appears she and Romain have gone their separate ways recently...i am sure this is not helping at all and likely could be affecting her training. that would be so difficult to go through in an olympic season. Ashley Wagner dealt with this too leading up to the 2018 games. i wish her the best.

Full Nebelhorn entry lists are out. Very little competition, Liu should easily take gold.
Yeah, I think any woman in the top 10 at Nationals would win this. It'll be a good opportunity for Alysa to try her most difficult elements with virtually no risk of placing low enough to lose the Olympic spot.

Off topic, but does Tara Prasad have any chance at earning an Olympic spot in this field? I enjoyed watching her programs at the last event.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall at Champs Camp. But we can be sure that the US figure skating youtube channel will post a video of the athletes learning a cheesy dance to a pop song as a team building exercise, or the highlights of Scott giving a we-get-up motivational speech. Yay.
Well, speaking for me, I love the cheese and I love the fluff. One of the world’s funniest interviews with skaters was deadpan Grant Hochstein and earnest Jason Brown playing off of each other at Champs Camp about five years ago. I still watch it, it’s that funny.

now, would I love to see the revamped Schindler’s? Or see what is happening with Mariah’s new SP? Of course. But I understand the need for confidentiality, as anxious as I am for news.

What makes you say that? I remember seeing her wearing a ring at Nationals and was wondering if they got engaged.

Following the short program in Kosice, here are the Top 10 highest scoring junior women's short programs thus far (with the US women bolded):

1. Sofia M. - 72.52
2. Veronika Z. - 71.57
3. Isabeau L. - 71.25
4. Adeliia P. - 69.30
5. Mariia Z. - 69.04
6. Chaeyeon K. - 66.90
7. Clare S. - 63.43
8. Kaiya R. - 63.17
9. Lindsay T. - 62.63
10. Ava Z. - 60.03

This is, I would say, the best the US women have ever performed in terms of the Junior Grand Prix. I believe the only other junior women to score above 60 points after the scoring change were Ting Cui and Alysa Liu.

Sad if it's true about Mariah's relationship, for her personally and for how it would presumably affect her motivation to compete. It's also pretty clear that Raf is not invested in anyone but Nathan. Adam might be a good friend and may have taught her how to train harder, but he is not a jump expert and she needs that technical advice. I know we've only seen her at one competition and it may have just been a bad outing, but it seems right now like the only way Mariah would make the Olympic team is if Bradie and Amber are too injured.

Ava did as well as expected. I think she looked satisfied with her score. The combo jump wasn't particularly well executed and I didn't like her song choice ( par for the course in juniors). However, she did well in her first international competition.

Mia's program song choice is great and her dress is lovely. The choreo isn't my cup of tea but I thought she was noticeably improved in presentation here. Mia really has to improve her flow out of jumps. The way she lands means she will never get good GOE. Additionally, technical panels are going to look at every jump. If the the technical panel looks, it will probably find an UR. She is a good jumper in terms of height. The technique isn't bad either but she can't lands forward on her skate. I'm sure she is working on it. She has a lot of potential and a lot to work on.

Ava's probably happy to have made it to the last warm-up group. Mia looked disappointed to me - I'd guess that's a lower score than she was expecting, maybe. Hopefully it's good feedback for her on her jump landings, like readernick said, and on her levels as those also hampered her.

Mariah wouldn't be the first person to have great practices and then lose it in competition - Trusova is a current skater with the same problem, looks great in practice but comes apart in competition; Cranberry cup was a summer competition a warmup for the GP series so I'm not sold that she's having a crisis of confidence after Nationals because a summer competition looked rough and 'rumors' from summer camp aren't spectacular regarding her technical elements,

Trusova has a tendency not to do full run-throughs though (she does the jumps mostly). And then in the program, she runs out of steam. Last year I've never seen anyone as ready to compete and win as Mariah was-Every jump and combo landed, great stamina and conditioning-literally zero mistakes on run throughs. And she skated with huge confidence. It is hard to compare that to what she put out on the ice at Cranberry. It would be interesting to hear from her what she thinks happened to her at Nationals-because as well trained as she was, you might expect a few mistakes, but not what happened.

Mia’s jumps were much tinier this summer. It looks like her team is putting in the effort in making them bigger and better rotated. Unfortunately that means a period of time when her jumps will be unstable, which is bad timing. I have no doubt she’ll benefit from focusing on improving her height and distance in the future. But I hope she also focuses on spins and performance as well.
