Thank you.Welcome to Golden Skate, @skatingiscool! Post long and post often!
It was a shame to see her miss her 3A at Nebelhorn but, she still had a great LP and an easy win.Welcome to Golden Skate, @skatingiscool! Post long and post often!
You have to respect Bradie. She fought and clawed and scratched to get what she has gotten. On a personal level, it’s hard to root against her.Perhaps you're feeling this way because Bradie is quite respected among fans even if she's not one they prefer?
I don't think USFSA particularly wanted her as their number one over the years but she was consistently producing decent results while other US women were unreliable. They were more than ready to promote Mariah in 19/20 season and I don't think they'd hesitate to take others if two US women who are not Alysa consistently outscore Bradie during the season.
She won a bronze medal because of Minchae Kim missed her last element, simple and plane. What an amazing week of figure skating. Not only did Alysa Liu nab a gold medal en route to securing a third Olympic spot, but Lindsay Thorngren proved to be formidably sturdy, taking home the bronze medal in her second event on the Junior Grand Prix circuit. Lindsay managed to improve on her previous season's best score by over 12 points. Furthermore, Lindsay posted the tenth highest overall score for junior women on the Junior Grand Prix; Lindsay and Isabeau are the only non-Russian women in the top ten. If Lindsay manages to rotate her triple-Axel, she will definitely be in the running for an Olympic berth. Currently, Lindsay has the third highest total score amongst US women, only behind Alysa and Isabeau. Also, props to Ava whose only major mistake was in the free skate in which the triple-Toe in her Lutz combo was deemed downgraded; however, Ava finally landed a clean 3Lz3T, doing so in her short program with positive grade-of-execution (+1.18). Our US junior women have been absolutely wonderful on the international stage, having brought home four medals.
Actually no, she was lipping, it was at least an ! (looks very similar to trusovas flip problem). Others would have gotten away with it as a lutz with a "typical"lutz entryThat technical controller needs to get her eyes checked.
Except for the venerable Mr. Shin 'No nonsense' Amano! For good and bad, at least 70% of technical controllers need to get their eyes checked.

The point is that Lindsay has a strong competitive mindset. She was able to keep her composure against very tough competition. She went for a jump that she knew poorly executed could cost her any chance at a medal because it’s clear the 3A isn’t there yet. But she did it anyway. A lot of the game is mental and Lindsay was able to capitalize on Minchae’s mistake. Had Lindsay gotten intimidated by the competition and melted down in the free she wouldn’t have been able to nab that bronze when the door was left open. She won a bronze medal because of Minchae Kim missed her last element, simple and plane.
If Sofia/Adelia manages to land a clean 4T, Lindsey still loses to them.
Forget about the Olympics, if she gets a spot for the JGPF with her 193 points score is highly unlikely that she will win a medal.
Russian Senior girls are on another level. They score about 240 points (not considering Trusova's five quads chimera).
Valieva? She hasnt competed yet this year, how do you know she's going to get edge calls? I would think it's highly unlikely she does, considering her reputation, no?There is an epidemic of flip calls this year-including Trusova and Valieva.
Last year she did. There is a trend to pop the 3F up quickly-as Kaori and Trusova do-it is by design, but when skaters do this, more often than not they don't/cant take the time to set the edge. For me this is more of a stylistic thing- The ISU want's 'sudden' 'surprise' jumps (to eliminate telegraphing), but this results in the unclear edge. There is an entire generation now that I notice use flat takeoffs.Valieva? She hasnt competed yet this year, how do you know she's going to get edge calls? I would think it's highly unlikely she does, considering her reputation, no?
Some skaters have very naturally shallow edges, and get calls on both their lutzes and flips, but usually skaters are either an outside edge or an inside edge skater and their other edge isn't nearly as strongIs it a thing that is you have the correct Lutz edge, you are more likely to lip?
Seems weird that Sasha, Kamila and Alysa who all have zero Lutz edge issues are getting dinged on their flip.
When? She only competed nationally, and none of the protocols I can find show a call.Last year she did.
No, because to me skating is more than what the tech panelists think or "think" with the slow-clap-worthy calls on Minchae Kim's Lutz this weekend. Which is why I can hope for what I want, which certainly isn't for Tennell's or Bell's skating to be on any Olympic team. No need to watch either of them or read the protocols on Karen's or Audrey's skating after watchingHave you seen Audrey skate this year? Because, her jumps are downgrades. I think she's about 7/8 on the list of ladies the US should send. A team of Karen, Audrey, and Alysa is just asking for a bunch of UR and downgrades.
Minchae's lutz is more of a ! although I was fascinated how it went from no call, to !, to e. But, the calls on Audrey and Karen are very real. I would prefer to see neither at the OlympicsNo, because to me skating is more than what the tech panelists think or "think" with the slow-clap-worthy calls on Minchae Kim's Lutz this weekend. We will see who gets what they want! You are free to think so. They're still better than Bradie and MariahBut, the calls on Audrey and Karen are very real.
In your opinionYou are free to think so. They're still better than Bradie and MariahAfter all, skating isn't just about rotating jumps, as we all know on this website. I'll certainly hope I get at least one of them on the team.
they are better. Many people really enjoy Bradie and Mariah's skating.Yes. It's still a positive sign that Alysa is capable of landing 3A! It's better to bomb her 3A in small competition so that she can learn from mistakes there. If Alysa can land 3A in short and long programs at Olympics and Worlds, she will be at the same level with Russians and Japanese. Sasha, Lisa and Kamila .....all fall on those big jumps in recent appearance so far (Russia test skates and US international classics)It was a shame to see her miss her 3A at Nebelhorn but, she still had a great LP and an easy win.
