Alena Kostornaia

The term “improve” is relative in Aliona’s case.. the fight in our tiny devil is astonishing!! Her other competitors have had their programs for months while Aliona has two NEW programs at Canada and still managed a bronze!! At Finlandia she skated to different programs and, again, managed a bronze; if that does not take grit, I don’t know what does. If her team decides to mess with those programs one more time, I swear I will put on my Witch’s Hat and conjure up the worst whacking spell possible!!

Seriously though, I love the NEW programs and she is positively beautiful in the the dresses too. She has the gift of making anything thrown at her a personal signature. Hope those guiding her will move back and let her just get on with it, stepping in for positive reinforcement only. Aliona knows where and how those cards are stacked.. if anyone can overcome she can. All prayers and good vibes her way!

Anna is still a contender for the Olympic team because of her consistency and clutchiness and if she gets her quad's back as I expect by nationals she will be the 2nd person on the team. If sasha gets healthy and can do 3 or 4 quads in a free skate she certainly the 3rd pick. That would mean tough luck for aliona and everybody else.

If there are so many unknowns and we don't know how much better aliona will get I think it could be another 20% better.

- Anna and Alena need their quads/3A back
- Sasha needs to land her 5 quads
- Kamila and Maia need to stay consistent
- Dasha needs another 3x3 combo. I would like a 3A but it’s too risky now.

This year Sofia and Adelia will skate at the nationals and Liza is still on the run. So many great skaters.

Happy Halloween by the way. ;)

Interesting post about it's about alyona's biggest rival being herself. I think so too. It also helps her that nationals is about 3 weeks later this season.

She is pretty close with having a great triple axle again and if that comes it's game on. Especially if she can somehow do 2 in the free skate.
She can do it. It must be psychological with too much pressure.

Samodelkina will be there too.

It's going to be crazy and aliyona will have a much higher level of confidence by January. 1st things 1st she needs to qualify for the grand prix final and a lot of people think she can get a silver in her next GP.

I wonder what Anya is thinking. She's done so much the past 3 years the years she must be super pissed off she's been forgotten about.
She's going to want to make people remember her in the Grand Prix season and then at nationals going for an unthinkable 4 peat.

The main thing is AK showed significant improvement from Finlandia to Vancouver and that's a good sign. She changed her programs and will be more confident and the 2 programs she skated in Vancouver. At some point this season she probably will need to have 2 triple axles in the free program.

Aliona’s post after Canada. 🥺

My dear, the main thing is that the coaches and fans still believe in you. 🤗 Hope it gives her strength to keep fighting.

"I want to say a huge thank you to my coaches, @ tutberidze.eteri @daniil_gleikhengauz @teamtutberidze_official for not turning away from me after everything that I sometimes allow myself. Thanks to my parents who believe in me no matter what. Thanks to my fans @kostornaiateam @kostonation for your support. And of course to friends who, despite the difference in time zones, wrote me congratulatory sms and set me up for a decent rental."

"...for not turning away from me after everything that I sometimes allow myself." Well, Aliona has never stopped being Aliona it seems, even after her return to TT... If I ever get the chance to take a visit to Sambo70, I will take my wand with me and I'm gonna cast a spell on the walls to make them talk...

As for "Lovely", obviously there's a lot of room to improve and I'm sure she will improve a hell of a lot by the next stage of the GP. To be honest, I find it a bit sleepy as a FP, it worked out much better for me as a show program, but I love her costume and the special make up. And I'm sure (or I really hope) that she will put much more sizzle and emotion into the FP next time. And one more thing. I really liked Daniil being supportive (he patted Aliona gently on the back) in the K&C right after the scores appeared. It's been a while since I last saw him doing it publicly... (Before anyone would think I resent him in any way, no, it's just felt good to see that positive and supportive gesture from him towards Aliona, after all the things we all know of, and especially after what Aliona has just said in her most recent post...)

I read online that Eteri was talking very warmly and supporting Aliona after FS ended. I really want to see the video, in case anyone filmed the bts.

Alyona's Free, for the geoblicked.

I'm very happy with her new Short. It's a crowd- (and judges) pleaser and it can matter a lot in an Olympic year when one has a reputation to rebuild. And she already sells it.
I'm less sure about her Free but we'll see at IdF.
I love her Short dress (her Short in this dress has an iconic potential just like Twilight) and the embroidery on her Free dress, I like a bit less the shape of the skirt.
I found the GOEs on her 3A quite harsh (several judges gave her a -5, come on! it's only q and step-out) and her PCS a bit severe on IN and PE but otherwise in line with "most" other skaters' scoring. Anyway the placement seems correct.
What I still can't believe is that she managed to change her programs and get that ready in three little weeks. I mean, yes she got a StSq2 in the Short and 3 in the Free and it's not tuned to her usual perfection yet but there's 3 other weeks before IdF, what wonders can she do?
I'm getting again in an irrational optimistic mode. She has still so much to overcome.
Some suggested that top 10 World standing skaters (for Men and Women) should automatically access Olympics and there would be a number of other skaters who would have to earn their spots as they do today. This would be nice! Even with last year lack of international competitions she was still #8 before SCI and probably #6 now.

I just saw the scores aliona only got 214 points and finished 18 points behind Liza. finishing behind her is one thing 18 points is kind of mind blowing. It's like the judges are making a point to punish her. Sad.
It is a bit mindblowing but Liza skated really extremely well for her and was also quite overscored. It can very well change next time.
