Kazuki Tomono

Last Part:

Kazuki: Also, I was simply envious of Nathan Chen's "Caravan" (18-19 SP).
Sota: Oh, wow!
Taichiro: Cool!
Kazuki: Actually, I haven't done a short with that sort of beat. I'm sure it's difficult to control your steps with that kind of up-tempo jazz music, but I'd like to try "Caravan".
Taichiro: Everything becomes so Kazuki when Kazuki does it.
Sota: That's a compliment, isn't it?
Kazuki That's more than 30% dissing (laughs). Also, (Uno) Shoma-kun's short program ("Legends") in his first year of senior year (15-16).
Everyone: Ah! Yeah!
Kazuki: I love it, so I want to give it a try. When I think about it, there are so many.
Mitsuki: Although it's a totally different type, I'd like to do "Pagliacci" (12-13 FS).
Everyone: Aaah!
Kazuki: That's a refined piece.
Mitsuki: I think it was around 2012. I've watched that program many times too.
Sota: He did well at the Nationals.
Mitsuki: The one at the Nationals was good.
--It was in Sapporo, wasn't it?
Sota and Mitsuki: Yeah, yeah.
Taichiro: The free skate, the one where he went for the upset.
Mitsuki: Yes, yes! It was really good.
Kazuki: You guys know so much!
Sota: Why do you know so little? (laughs).
Taichiro: Even I could follow that one (laughs).
Kazuki: I don't know. I watch performances, but I don't know about the "something something" competition of the "something" year.
Sota: Your memories are surprisingly poor.
Kazuki: Yes, my memories are really bad.
Sota: A man who lives in the present moment!
Mitsuki: Cool!
Kazuki: I do watch great performances. But as to when and which one they did, ..... I don't quite remember. In fact, the person who is least interested in skating is me?
Taichiro: I'm next by a small margin.
Kazuki: I like skating, but when it comes to seeing competitions, I've never been that interested. I really love to watch the performances. I like to see who I'm competing against, or who I'm associated with. Also, lately I've been really into watching skaters from the generation before Takeshi (Honda) sensei.
Kota: Kurt Browning?
Kazuki Yes, yes!
Mitsuki: Kazuki, you've been watching him for a long time, haven't you?
Sota: I was with Kazuki at the training camp for Stars (On Ice) and The Ice, and he kept saying, "Hey, look at this!" He showed me the edge work of Kurt Browning's skating, and said, "That generation is amazing!"
Kazuki: I love Kurt Browning. That generation of skaters' edge work is awesome, and I've been watching them. I can watch videos from that era all the time. Kurt Browning is seriously incredible.
Mitsuki: Among all Kurt Browning's works, it's gotta be "Singing in the Rain" (1994) after all.
Sota: Oh, that's the one Mitsuki used too.
Kazuki: You can watch it forever. I really want you to watch it, because it sort of connected to the starting point of my skating, like the quick small steps. Hiraike sensei is a huge fan of Kurt Browning, and sensei coached me to do his steps. So, I feel, "Oh, so this is where I came from."
--Thank you very much for sharing your precious story with us.

Thank you so much rRainbow! :thank:
That was such an interesting conversation. I hadn't seen Daisuke Takahashi's Mambo but it's such a cool programme and it would be perfect for Kazuki! Overall, it seems like he's interested in doing energetic SPs and I would totally love that too! I hope we can see something like that in upcoming seasons.
It's also funny that Sota and Mitsuki are such skating nerds, while Kazuki is clearly a 'live for the moment' type of guy 😆

Singing in the Rain would be perfect for Kazuki. He may regret not being as tall as Sota and Taichiro, but for me he's the only boy on Team Japan who can really sell joyful music like this piece. The only one who exudes the joy and fun of skating with all his expression and movements. I like programs for Kazuki that highlight his gift.

Kazuki appeared yesterday on the 'Arakawa + Friends' show, unfortunately I haven't found any videos or translation yet, but it seems he talked in length about his relationship with other skaters... and that he changed his blades to Kozuka blades to copy Shoma 😅

Interesting. I wonder if he talked about his friendship with Shoma? They seem like best friends to me.

I think he did talk about his friendship with Shoma, and about his friendship with other skaters, too. It's hard to know who's Kazuki's 'best friend' because he's seems to be really good friends with everyone 🤣 But you're right, he seems to be very close to Shoma, and also Koshiro Shimada (who trains with Shoma in Switzerland) and Sota Yamamoto.

I really wish I could watch the programme, but sadly haven't come across the video or the translation yet...

You know what would be really cool? If Kazuki and Shoma did a team event where they challenge fans to a video game tournament. Shoma loves video games so much and I think Kazuki does too. Playing video games with them would be awesome! 🙌🏻

Haha that would be super cool!

Meanwhile, Kazuki is probably preparing to go to Italy soon... I'm not sure if I'm prepared for it!

Awe he was crying in the Kiss and Cry in that one photo!
Yup! That was after his iconic FS at Nationals 2019 (tried to find the link but it seems it has been removed from YouTube 😮‍💨)

Meanwhile, seems our boy is already in Italy! 🙌🇮🇹
Central Sports very kindly posted pics of a fashionable Kazuki at the airport: https://www.instagram.com/p/CVxfaBmBMGP/

I have some updates!
First of all, his planned content: https://twitter.com/onoyuzu1/status/1456213935674167301
SP content is the same, the FS layout changed a bit, with 3lo replacing the 3F in the middle, then the 3F replacing the 3lz in the end. NGL I'm happy with this change, I'm a huge fan of his 3lo and he usually gets edge calls on the 3lz anyway (not to mention that horrible fall at JO).

Also, we have a video of his SP run-through! This lady filmed the second practice group, Kazuki was the last, doing a run-through of Cinema Paradiso: https://www.instagram.com/tv/CV2gl5wq1q0/

He did 4T (hand) 4S(turn)2T, couldn't see the 3A but he didn't seem happy about it so it could have been a pop. Then, he had a fluke fall in the stsq 😂
So, not clean, but Kazuki normally struggles a bit in the first day of practice so I'm not too worried at this point.

No worries! He arrived less than two days ago so maybe he's still suffering from jet lag!

I probably shouldn't be saying this but, apart from two or three skaters, the level of his rivals is within his reach so, if he skates clean he could benefit from some minor mistake by the others ☺️and reach the podium!

After this, I hope I didn't jinx him, if things go wrong I'll never talk again in my life
