btw. What elements do get levelled?
Pretty much everything except jumps (and throw jumps for pairs).
footwork. Are the exact steps in the FW written out in the PP Sheet?
No.
I can't believe the Caller can remember all the variations, and the judges must score just the performance of the FW. I would think tracing of the FW should be levelled as circular, straight, serpentine. Are they?
The levels are based on meeting certain criteria for the content of the step sequences. The criteria (bullet points) are different for singles, pairs, and dance. I've been told that the technical specialists tick them off on their fingers while watching each step sequence, but I'm sure that once the step sequence is over they've forgotten exactly which steps and turns or other features they gave credit for. If they need to watch the replay afterward to review, they'll remind themselves at that time.
Moves in Field Similar to Sprials?
Currently there is no element called "moves in the field" that receives technical scores. Moves like spread eagles and Ina Bauers are considered under the transitions component. They could also contribute to some of the other program components.
Ice Dance Anything based on the dance itself, e.g., Tango is more difficult than Rhumba?
The specific compulsory dances have different point values, based in part on the difficulty of the steps and also on how many steps they have and how many times the pattern is repeated.
For the original dance, and for free dances, there are base marks for each kind of element, based on the kind of element and its level.
The type of rhythm isn't a factor in the technical marks. How well each team interprets the rhythm is scored under the program components.
