Kazuki Tomono

Kazuki's comment after the SP: https://news.yahoo.co.jp/articles/8f622852e7e2cdc697f6d791e1607fb9d1ef659a

"I was so nervous that I felt like throwing up.”
Kazuki Tomono 6th in SP: GP Italy

”I was so nervous that I felt like throwing up. I had practiced well, so I was able to jump calmly, even though I was nervous. But I lost my balance in spins, because I didn't have the strength in my legs and I made some obvious mistakes. I was able to nail the jump which was very challenging for me, so I was happy about that.

It had been a while since I competed (overseas), but I was able to compete as I usually do. The atmosphere at the venue was very good, and I was able to skate in a good mood with the support of the cheering crowd.

I don't know why I was nervous. Maybe it was because it had been a while since I had competed overseas. I was pretty calm until the official practice, but then I got tense before the competition started. I think I was able to overcome my nervousness. I've been practicing more for the free skate than the short, so I want to skate with confidence and turn my frustration into power.”

Thank you so much, rRainbow! :thank:
I saw this bit too: https://twitter.com/goldenskate/status/1456713193263439874
I was really nervous, I almost threw up, but because I trained, I did well. There is still a lot to work on. Until regionals, I didn't have as much rink time. Afterwards it got better. The outcome is what you see today."
This blew my mind because I had no idea he had faced restrictions on rink time before regionals. Why do you think that was - maybe covid measures? In any case, considering how nervous he was, the fact that it was his first international competition in almost two years, and having had limited rink time earlier in the season, I though he did really, really well!

*Inserts obligatory rant that he was robbed in PCS*
Here's the schedule for today: https://twitter.com/Tomono_Infonet/status/1456731315005394945
He skates at 8:47pm local time

Guys! I’m so happy, I’m almost crying

Tell us more, tell us more! Ready to hear your reports.
Guys I am sorry, I have already seen both of Kazuki's programs and liked them, but a certain quadless skater's through-the-roof scores compared to Kazuki (and others), sent me into such a rage, I need until tomorrow to cool down. Kazuki was my highlight today, despite the second half.

Kazukiiiiii why are you so chaotic :ROFLMAO: :drama:

Despite his mistakes I'm not too upset. We know how much landing three quads in the free with positive GOE has been a mental hurdle for him, and now he overcame this. I actually think this is what threw him off, it was almost like he didn't quite expect it 😅

On top of that, he finally got the PCS he deserves!

Overall, this was a good comp for him, a 6th place finish considering the stacked field, and the best first-GP score he's ever had, plus he now has the tools to do even better at Rostelecom.

Article on Kazuki's FS at GP Italy: https://news.yahoo.co.jp/articles/4565bdcc65adb202ead9f340898ccfd42062f5f3

Kazuki Tomono (Central Sports), who placed 6th in SP, was 5th in free skate with 161.20 points, and 6th in the overall competition with 245.11 total points.

In the beginning, he had three quad successes in a row, a 4T-3T, a 4S, and a 4T, but in the second half, he had some trouble with his jumps. "In the first half, I was able to concentrate very well, so I think I've grown in that area, but I made a mistake in (triple) Axel, something I don't usually do, so I was flustered there," he recalled.

The flying sit spin with zero points was also a blow. He said that he let the spin mistake in the SP drag him down. He "I had a lot of trouble with my spins in this competition. I thought I had practiced a lot, but it wasn't enough," he reflected on his performance.

The next round will be the Cup of Russia (26-28, Sochi). "I made mistakes this time because I didn't fully pay attention to the details. I have to fix the spin problem by the next time," he said.

Actually I don’t have a lot to add, 😊 only that the crowd was clapping hands on the music during his step sequence, usually this is not seen from tv, but he was one of crowd’s favourites also this time :cheer:

Do you guys know if he’s going to be at the gala today?

Anyway, I haven’t seen him leave the ice so happy in a while (maybe since Milan 2018?), and as always his smile is so contagious, it melts your heart :love2:

Also, I’m quite satisfied also with the scores, I honestly would have put him in fifth place, but it doesn’t change a lot; fourth, fifth and sixth place are near, this will help him gaining the confidence he needs to not repeat silly mistakes

He has just uploaded a story on Instagram so, considering that is quite early in the morning, is he already up cause he has to go to the gala?!:pray::pray:

First of all, thank you @rRainbow for the translation! It's good to know Kazuki is aware of what needs to be fixed. He is right in that managing to be focused for the first three quads in the beginning was a step forward for him.

Here's his protocol from yesterday: https://twitter.com/Tomono_Infonet/status/1457101918191243268
Nice to see 9s in his PCS for the first time, and the jumps he did land got good GOE, too! 💪

I'm excited to see Kazuki at Rostelecom - traditionally he does better in his second GP, plus he's always well received in Russia. I don't expect him to podium even if Yuzu WD because the three Russians will be inflated to the moon, but I think he can get a nice SB there and maybe a 4th or 5th place finish. The important thing is that his score still has huge potential to grow 🙏

Yay for Kazuki at the Gala! Here's the full performance order: https://twitter.com/kyodonewsports/status/1457258206271578112
Some pics from the gala practice:

I wonder what kind of publication he will use for Bills? Something brought from Japan, or maybe a local newspaper? 😄

I have to see that. :ROFLMAO: Good for you that you could see that live, Giu! ^ ^ I need to wait till tomorrow to see it, as our TV only starts airing the saved broadcast after 22.30, which should be my bedtime, so... :bed: It should be a good way to start my morning though; I think I'll forward straight to Kazuki ^ ^

Well, if you guys have no issues with Kazuki's scoring compared to others, then who am I to complain :) His quads and 3A looked so wow, and the StSeq was awesome!

Oh no! I think that his scores were low compared to those of Deniss for example… but he looked so happy and relaxed, he made a huge step in the right direction so this time, and only this time, I’ve decided to be happy like him!

@Giu I hadn't appreciated you were actually there, watching live! I'm glad for you and also a tad jealous 😅 I hope you had a great time!

It's sad, isn't it - because we're so used to seeing Kazuki being robbed, we take anything we can get 🥲 In my case, I was happy by the mere fact he finally got reasonably good GOE and PCS. But of course, you are right, and he should have finished at least in 5th place. Sigh.

Overall, I can see his skating getting sharper, more refined, and this performance of 'Bills' was the best yet IMO. Using the map of Turin was a really nice touch, too!

Ahah I thought I told you I was going to be there, didn’t I?
I know I’ve been a fugitive in the last few months, but I’m back to support Kazuki as in the old days
