Ladies Short Program

Ok, hearing the PBP of Yu-Na's program, I kind of take some of what I said above back. I don't think she should be last because she didn't miss an entire elelment. At least she tacked on a jump, though single, to the combo. Def. don't think she should be in first though. Do the judges want to kill figure skating?
 
But in Mao's case, she hasn't jump the lutz at all. Just pop. SO that's understandable. Maybe Yuna gets more level four in spins and spirals compartments. Have to wait for protocol.
 
Speaking of protocols, I am assuming that they will come up on the ISU page at the end of the day? Or is there some place they appear earlier?
 
Well, if we take Yu-Na's score from last year, subtract about 3.00 GOE from the combo, subtract another 4 points for singling the triple toe...acutally, I guess that's about right if we look at it that way...
 
I am glad that I don't pay either. I will wait to watch it next weekend on ESPN. But I want to thank all of those who are watching and posting. :clap:

I think protocals come out after the event, so tomorrow or Sunday, probably.
 
Wow I'm just completely :eek: Mao Asada in last place? Behind someone right out of juniors (Zhang) and someone that is very inconsistent (Kostner). I feel bad for the girl because you just know she's going to beat herself up over this.
 
One of the Daum feeds is showing Mao and Yu-Na again...Mao's score is hugely inflated, but her layback has a very nice leg position now.
 
Thanks for the descriptions and observations. I guess the answers will be in the protocols; at least, under CoP, they are supposed to be lol

I think SPs are very different from the way they were under 6.0, so an error won't sink you; what matters is your numerical total on elements, quality of execution, and style, period. A friend has observed to me that the old system was more on the subtractive side; the new system is more on the additive side.

You can't win all the time, you can't skate the best all the time and you can't be perfect all the time. So maybe she needs to learn this lesson before beating herself up.
 
Other than Mao's absurdly high score, I think the placements are fair. This isn't the 6.0 system anymore, the score reflects everything not just the jumps. Yukari's legwrap and lack of transitions cost her, Kimmie had a cheated jump and had some pretty unremarkable spins, Carolina had telegraphed jumps and her spins were reallllllllllly slow, and Caroline just looked very slow throughout the whole program despite a clean performance. Other than the botched combo, Yuna had very finished moves, plenty of speed, and great facial expressions, so I think she desrves 1st place.
