I'm concerned for Kimmie too. It seems like Caroline has already passed her. If this continues, with Mirai, Rachel and Ashley coming up, I'm not sure whether she'll be able to hold her place until 2010.

At least we know she can do the 3axel and toe loop. Now she needs to work on them and get better GOEs. That's probably what she is thinking?
I don't know why people think there is no big female stars right now.. There is Yuna and Mao.. These two are just so amazing to me. Hopefully Mirai Nagasu can join the club too next year. There is something about Ashley Wagner that I like also.
Sorry, I thought Mao had jumps downgraded, because that's what a previous poster said -- I haven't seen her performance at all, my video feed started just after her skate! I edited my previous post already. I'm hoping that someone will post her LP on youtube soon (please?).
I just noticed that Caroline scored 5.0 for her spiral sequence in the LP. That's the highest in this competition. The second highest were 4.8 (Caroline's and Mao's SP). That's worth more than Caroline's 3Flz (4.4 in the SP). I'm glad she's finally getting recognition for her spirals: she has very steady edges, smooth change-of-edge, and in this LP she also had more speed in the spiral sequence than before.
This is a really good score for Caroline, she beat her PB in both the TES and PCS: and she should go home knowing that she can up her TES even more with a clean program, and speed/power is something that will come with long-term training/conditioning.

that was fairly predictable, actually that Meissner would eventually be passed by the up and comers. But I didn't think it would start happening so soon (i.e. she would run into jump problems, etc.)
Then again, even if she quits now, she still would have accomplished a World championship, National championship and Olympic trip.
She's reliable, but does she have the reputation to get the necessary PCS in order to squeeze into top 10? I'm afraid those European judges won't give her benefit of doubt. It's their home court. Aside from preordained top 6 or 7, the competition for the remaining three is brutal since all those European countreis such as Finland would love to retain 2 or 3 spots.

I can't wait to see these skates. Good girl Mao!!!! I am so glad that she has that in her. I was beginig to doubt her. No matter what anybody says she should have won. TWO 3/3's ???? a 3 axel!!! and beautiful spirals, spins and artistry.
yeah, i am stunned that she was placed ahead of Yukuri. i guess 3/3 beats 3 axel. Wow, good for caroline! I would have liked to see her medal, and if she was in first after the SP like she should have been, she probably would have a medal.
yeah, how'd she take it? I don't think I've ever seen her disappointed before, but she couldn't have been her normal bubbly self after what seemed like a disastrous showing.
While watching it live, I actually thought the second triple in both of Mao's 3+3 combos looked a little underrotated. Rather short and quick on the landings. I'm not surprised she got negative GOEs for both 3+3s. Her free foot was also very close to the landing one on her 3A. Mao's triple-triples don't come close to the awesomeness of Yu-Na's 3F+3T. Really, the one Yu-Na landed in this LP was practically faultless.
And I really hate to say it, but I think Kimmie's peaked. It has been almost two seasons that she has been underperforming. I don't ever see her fixing the second triple in her horribly, horribly cheated 3+3s.
No, she wasnt this time, after finishin her LP she was just down... even lookin down... not even smilin, when her coach hugged her... she wasnt smilin & when she arrived at the K&C she said "Im sorry", also she was tryin to nurse a cut in one of her fingers. This time she wasnt bubbly AT ALL.

Looking at the protocols, I found something kinda interesting. Yu-Na recieved 7.8 for her 3Lz in both SP and LP. 0.9 higher Mao's 3A (6.7) and 0.3 more than Yukari's 3A(7.5).
uh, no, what they said was, -1 several times, you lose more points than -3 only one time + positive GOEs several times elsewhere.
YuNa is rewarded for her better technique on various jumps, fair and square. you can't just compare one jump.
She's a fighter, what doesnt kill you only makes you stronger. I trust her, she'll get better for nationals and worlds.

Looking towards the future of US ladies figure skating.. Will we even see Kimmie in the qalified three for the 2009 World and 2010 Olympics. With Caroline Z, Wagner, Nagasa and Flatt making names for themselves now on the World scene.. Nasaga and Flatt will be on the Sr level by then and they have a lot more musicality to their skating than Kimmie.. I really appreciate Kimmie's personality and fun she brings to the sport, but was she a one hit wonder?
I really, really hope so. Her skating style is not my favourite, but her personality is so appealing that I want her to do well.
You didn't see the competition yet, but how can you tell she should have won??
Remember Mao had terrible short program yesterday.

That's a question that will come around again after Nats and Worlds.
I wanted to give her a chance, but I'm doubtful right now. Being realistic, I think she's in quite a bit of trouble at the moment.
Well, hopefully Zhang & Co. are ready to take over the top spot in US skating once they get old enough. I always think of Hughes/Meissner as the "interim generation" until that occurs. Next!
hmmh, I believe you are referring to Red Dog's post, who's mainly interested in american skaters as possible big stars. (not there's anything wrong with it).

Yu-na'a Luts is just that spectacular. Mao and Yukari does 3A's but they always get minus GOE's for those while Yu-na's Luts always gets plus GOE's.
