I don't really post in this part of the forums but I just wanted to say that it's a shame Raf won't take her, and that we're so close to the US Nationals in an Olympic season. Alysa has always said that she takes motivation from watching Nathan and I think that having her spend some time with someone as textbook as him and Raf wouldn't be a bad idea, even if just for a while. Being successful is a combination of several things, and while it's never just about the coach, I think Alysa has enough talent and drive in her to learn...and if you combine that with a proper coach and a thriving setting, anything is possible. She's also still so young and has plenty of time to make improvements. I know how invested Raf is in Nathan, but Nathan is planning to step away from skating after this season, at least for a while, so that would leave Raf with a lot more time to work with someone else who's talented enough to possibly be a future sensation. I do agree that Raf would probably rework her jumping technique and, unfortunately, we're just not in a good place to be doing something like that at the moment. Well, whatever ends up happening, I wish Alysa luck.

I follow Alysa instagram for quite long time. I'm always wondering why Alysa never follow Nathan Chen on Instagram. Alysa follows all top US skaters (Jason, Vincent, Amber...etc) except Nathan which seems a bit odd to me. After Alysa won Championship at 13, I checked Nathan instagram and he didn't follow Alysa back then. Just wondering......Nathan and Alysa don't get along well???

Exactly. Perhaps Alysa's dad never contact Raf...who knows. When Alysa was under Laura Lipetsky, Alysa travelled and coached by Brian Orser and Carolina Kostner briefly .

So does that mean that Bradie is completely out of the run for Beijing? Do tech minimums count from last season as well?
 
Dammit, it’s not looking to good for Bradie this season. We are into December and she hasnt skated competitively yet.

Why am I getting the feeling that Nationals will be her season debut?

Maybe someone knows something I don't but I'm not aware of any issues between them. I'm pretty sure they're not close or anything and they prob don't know one another on a personal level but, judging from the comments she has made about him before, it seems Alysa has been looking up to Nathan since she was young. Even during her recent interview at the 2022 Team USA Media Summit just a month ago, she said something along the lines of Nathan being someone she looks up to as a source of inspiration to train well and that he motivates her to get on the ice. Yeah, I'm not sure about Instagram...sorry.

The question will be can she come into Nationals with possibly no competition mileage on her programs and skate well enough to place as such that it renders the BOW argument from others meaningless. The positive in her corner right now is that the other skaters have not exactly been fantastic - outside of Alysa's 2 Challenger wins and 4th at NHK has anyone else placed higher than fifth this season?

Per her USFS bio, both of Alysa's programs this Olympic season were choreographed by Massimo Scali, not Jeremy Abbott. I do hope that she keeps both until the season ends! It's much too late imo to come up with 2 new programs before Nationals and the Olympics. That being said, Alysa has ventured far from home this past year to Italy. Perhaps now that she's a little older she can handle the change to Colorado. I just hope that she's happy, gets a great jump coach and skates lights out at both Nationals and the Olympics. 🤞❤🙏❤

According to TSL, Alysa is working with Viktor Pfeifer and Drew Meekins. Is it good or bad? I guess we will all find out at Nats.

We don't know Bradie's condition yet. It's smart for USFSA to put both BOW and podium into selection criteria. As long as Bradie wins a medal at Nats, she will be fine. I don't think Mariah Bell can move up to group 2 with her up and coming 2021 Rostelecom Cup.

Group 2 - Alysa Liu. Top 5 finish at Nats ---> Go to Beijing
Group 3 and under - everybody else needs podium finish at Nationals. Nobody is winning any medal at international competition THIS season.... yet. Nobody has established impressive body of work to be considered.

People on another forum have been postulating that they will retire after this season. Apparently they want to go to college and the posters said something along the lines of if a skater can’t win an OGM they won’t have sponsors and skating is just an expensive hobby and Alysa’s dad has 5 kids to support. I don’t want to speculate on any skaters finances but I know the rest of the skaters on that level have sponsors and USFS envelope money and we don’t have a current skater who has an OGM. If they all retired because they didn’t win OGM their senior season we would be in a sad state. The skaters I really feel for are the ones who are making Nationals but not on the ISP. With the exception of Gracie who has several sponsors they don’t have a lot of help.

Has anyone here heard them discuss retirement or is it just gossip?

She could have been sent to Golden Spin. It’s unfortunate USFS chose to count her out.
Maybe I was dreaming but isn’t there something called the Santa Claus Cup? Or maybe was in the past?

If she is not in a condition to skate at Golden Spin I think it’s unlikely she will be in a shape to skate at Nationals, much less medal. I hope and pray I am wrong.

It’s very strange that she was involved in the press conference for SA and then completely dropped off the radar. It makes me wonder if she injured herself further.

  • TSL also stated that Arthur Liu fired Abbott and Scali, said Alysa is already training in Colorado, didn’t say who, exactly, is coaching them. So we still have that to look forward to. They’ve apparently been working with Viktor Pfeifer and Drew Meekins, but Tammy and Tom aren’t in town right now, so who knows who will be named as their coach(es).

If Tom takes Alysa, it may imply that Bradie is badly injured and Tom needs a new "horse" in a race. Just speculating.....

I follow Alysa since she was 12, this move is very surprised to me.

Yes. Hanna Harrell skated her 170+ competition earlier in the season. That competition was enough for USF to send her to Golden Spin. Gracie, at that time, wasn’t up to that skating level. Especially, after Cranberry. Gracie and Sierra then skate their higher 170+ competitions after the entries for Golden Spin. Too bad. But, at least Gracie is on an upward trajectory heading into Nationals. She is one of the few with the difficult 3Lz 3T combination. She just needs to not pop her jumps, especially, in the second half of the free skate. I believe she can score over 180 domestically and that would put her in a good position for Challenger Circuit next year.

Bradie 😭; Yes, that would not be a good sign for Bradie…. But, I kind of want Alysa to skate at Colorado. She just needs to focus on rotating her triples like Mai Mihara. Consistency will get her a spot to the Olympic Team and in the team event, she can be an Olympic Medalist. Which would be an outstanding achievement.
