European Skating 2021-22 Season

At the moment I cannot see Finland to get 2 two spots anymore after next EC. Today they had 2nd qualification for nats. Emmi Peltonen won with getting best PCS, but 5 top junior women got better TES than her, also in seniors Olivia Lisko (she competes at senior level in nationals) and Laura Karhunen also got better TES. Janna Jyrkinen was best of all, including 5 senior men, women and all juniors with total points 162, FS TES 62.64. It is quite open who gets the women's spots in Euros winning of nationals does not guarantee anything. I wrote this to Finland fan fest, but maybe all will not see them so I tell it also here; scores from two best competitions is what is counted, and one of them must be an international ISU competition, one can be nationals or qualification to nationals. At the moment Oona Ounasvuori and Jenni Saarinen are holding the places to EC, but there are still many competitions to come. From men Makar Suntsev has also got both TES scores for Euros, but Valtter Virtanen is holding the place at the moment.

Nina Petrokina from Estonia is certainly changing the game and achieved good scores in the last two challengers (181-ish, 188-ish), if she is eligible for the Olympics she's quite the threat to Eva, which we know can achieve a higher score but her performances are so unpredictable this season... I'm eyeing Estonian nationals with curiosity

Indeed, she has been the big surprise for me this season and she seems to not be bothered with nerves. I didn´t think she or somebody else would challenge Eva-Lotta before this season... but now?

I don´t know what is up with Eva-Lotta, is she bothered with nerves? Her two last competition was big contrast and before there it was a bit of everything as well. In Finlandia new PB with over 200 points, and then in Warsaw cup she scores 143, so almost 60 points from one competition to another :scratch2: I guess it was a all time high and a all time low, but still...

Eva-lotta had very bad summer because of injury. After finlandia it went again with bad direction...the leg swell up again and she had to cut training hours. But with less training she lost her self confident...i hope everything turn out well in GP.

Nina Petrokina won the gold medal at Estonia Nationals over Eva. She did not make a single mistake….

She is definitely a dark horse contender for a top ten slot at Olympics
In Milano maybe :)
Because she dont have a spot for Peking.

i'm happy for Nina, who i like, but so sad for Eva Lotta, who i love. there's clearly something wrong, she's never been consistently clean but not to this extent

I just saw that Ukrainian Nationals are happening right now and that's a pleasant surprise. It got me wondering what Elena Liashenko is up to these days. Is she coaching or judging somewhere? I know Uncle Dick didn't like her style but, when I saw her in 2001 she was fast. One of the fastest ladies in the event.

Linnea Kolstad Kilsand will represent Norway in EC in Tallinn in her first senior year. Frida Berge is substitute.

Linnea scored 57,88 points in her SP last weekend in a domestic competition, which not only is a new PB, but a new Norwegian record for senior ladies in the SP. She broke Anne Line Gjersems record of 56,12 points from 2015. Anne Line still has the highest overall score with 158,39 points and FS score.

Norway has also picked the team for Nordics Open. In the ladies field there will be 3 senior skaters, 4 juniors and 4 Advanced Novice and one skater in Advanced Novice boys.

An interview with Eva’s coach Anna Levandi gives some interesting insight into Eva’s situation .. she mentions “soft ankle”.. and explains the measures being taken ..

Hopefully this is the right forum, but does anyone know how Alexander Lebedev (Belarus) is doing? I believe the last time he competed was when he left in the middle of his free after a bad fall at Cup of Austria in early November.

Cross-posting from their Fan Fest: A new interview with Oleksandra Nazarova and Maksym Nikitin (in Ukrainian, I used Google Translate to read it), discussing their preparations for this season and their feelings about competing in their second Olympics compared with their first.

They also discuss the difficulties they have training in a very cold rink, sharing the ice with children. They can only train for 3 hours a day, and have to share the 3rd hour with the 'little singles'. I think it's very sweet that Maksym says that they don't want to send the little ones away as, once, he and Oleksandra were the little ones and because they weren't taken of the ice, they are now going to the Olympics. They also say their 'filling machine' (perhaps the Zamboni or ice making machine?) is run on gasoline/petrol, so there are also fumes in the rink. I had no idea they trained in such difficult conditions :( Wishing them the very best for Europeans and the Olympics!
