2021 Open d'Andorra

Nice Addams Family routine to start off the Free Dances. I particularly liked the way that they incorporated the finger clicking into the choreography.

Too many partnerships ignore the finger clicking, as they are more concerned with doing actual elements. But, these two incorporated it perfectly, even making it part of some of their elements.

That is definitely going the extra mile in interpreting the music!  :points:

Looking forward to seeing if they can continue to be inventive like this in the years to come as they move through the ranks.

Sadly the video is already blocked. :(

Was that the winner of AdvNov, Joe Booth with an English Father, and his new partner?

No, it was the Intermediate Novice partnership from Spain.

But, thank you for telling me that about Joe. Because I have been curious about his background since I first saw him with his previous partner. I have relatives that are Booths, and so was wondering if his family was from Northern Ireland.

I can tell you something, he and Neil were really good! I'd never come across Neil before. Do you know anything about her?

I am looking forward to seeing more of them.

Day 3 of the Open d'Andorra consists of the Junior skaters in the morning and early afternoon, followed by the Senior skaters in the late afternoon and evening. But it is the Junior Dancers that kick off the day by starting their campaign.

Livestream for the Junior Short Dance is now on air.

Here is the link for the livestream:

Here is the Time Schedule:

And here is the live scoring:

Hope this helps

Mmmm. When the stream came on air, the Zamboni was still on the ice. And while it was still going, they started playing the music that my kids are skating to (they are going first), presumably to test that everything is working.

Let's hope they remember to re-wind the music, so that we don't have any delays!

And just before the announcer started talking, they showed a shot of the gate, and Sofía was hanging out of the gap, looking like she couldn't wait to get out there!

That's my girl!

Oh, yeah. I remember now you telling us that there was a Norwegian girl skating for Germany.

Looking forward to seeing what they are like.

But first, my kids.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST SOFÍA AND NIKITA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

I really like Sofia and Nikita!

Me too, it´s very exciting because we hadn´t have Norwegians ice dancers before. And Milla competed in singles before. Well we have an ice dance team for Norway now, but they havn´t been competing yet, they are currently training in Buffalo.

So it will be nice to watch them event though they skate for Germany.

First and foremost, they did remember to re-wind the music after the test.

A great start to the competition. I didn't see anything wrong with it.

They are looking very serious waiting for their results. So, maybe there were issues that I didn't spot.

51.12 points. That's only 1 point less than they got last time out in Graz, and only 1.50 points lower than their absolute PB.

So, nothing to be disappointed about!

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

Looks like we'll be seeing them sooner than expected. The second partnership due to go, Corina and Patrik HUBER (AUT), has withdrawn.

In this game, it doesn't really matter what country is being represented (apart from when it comes to getting funding). The important thing is that they are out there competing.

Fun(ky) programme from the Polish partnership.

"Your Heart Is As Black As Night".

It may as well be night, with the amount of shadows that there are in the arena. :rolleye:

The change of music totally took me surprise! A very strange re-mix of "Uptown Funk". I was not expecting that!

Apart from the strange re-mix (why not use the original?!), I really enjoyed that. They coped very well with both the slow music and the more up-beat music.

Milla looks VERY young! Come to think of it, so does Nikita. But Milla even more so.

Judging by what I just saw, I am very excited for these two. They look very promising.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Ukrainian partnership that are going first in Group 2 are also using "Your Heart Is As Black As Night" as their first song!

For a moment, I thought they had forgotten to change the CD. But, it soon became apparant that it was a different recording of the song to what Milla and Nikita used.

The difference is that Mariia and Mykyta followed it with a bit of electric guitar, and then some very strange music.

New leaders. By just over 4 points over Val / Vitryanyuk.

Have Tatjana BUNINA / Ivan KUZNETSOV changed their Short Dance since their Junior GP appearances? Because I just checked their ISU Bio to find out what the music was, and what is listed there certainly isn't what they were skating to today.

The reason I was wondering is that the first song they skated to is currently being used in an advert that is frequently on the TV. And I was curious to find out what the song was.

Tatjana is wearing a beautiful colour of a dress. Purple. Can't say I think much of Ivan's top!

They go into 2nd.

What on Earth have I just been listening to?!

Eva BERNARD / Tom JOCHUM are definitely continuing the French tradition of weird Ice Dance programmes!

And you can not get much weirder than the female singer attempting to make roaring noises, and Eva and Tom trying to play out the actions.

They go into penultimate position, roughly half-way between the Italians ahead, and the Norwegain-German partnership behind.

CaroLiza_fan

What a strange combination of songs. But, I liked it!

I love "I'm Feeling Good" by Nina Simone. And "Getting Jiggy With It" by Will Smith is just my childhood!

Pity that Jayin fell towards the end.

I see that they are doing a "West Side Story" medley tomorrow. That'll be poignant, seeing as Stephen Sondheim died yesterday.

Unfortunately, they go into last place. But, it is worth noting that they and the Norwegian-German partnership above them are the only ones that have had a deduction.

I take back what I said about the British partnership having a strange combination of songs. The second French partnership had a really weird combination.

And awful cover of "Hey Ya", followed by an awful cover of "Big Spender" with some bloke rapping over the top of it.

No. Just no.

I know I've seen this programme befoere, but I prefer not to remember it!

They slip into 7th position, half a point behind their team-mates.

Hopefully this is sending the message to the French choreographers that weird isn't working...

CaroLiza_fan

Thank goodness we didn't get weird programmes from all the French partnerships.

That was really enjoyable from Louise BORDET / Thomas GIPOLOU. Not only was the music good("Ain't No Mountain High Enough"), but the skating was good too.

And it paid off. They go into 5th, with just 1 more partnership to go.

They are French too, so let's see which direction they take.

CaroLiza_fan

These last two French partnerships definitely did the right thing in not taking the "weird" road that their team-mates took.

Loved these two programmes.

Célina and Jean-Hans skated to Michael Jackson's cover of "Ain't No Sunshine" (which wasn't the best version I've ever heard of that song), and one of the songs he recoded with his brothers, "Blame It On The Boogie" (which was great!)

Everything about the programme was just right. Célina's dress was just gorgeous, and Jean-Hans' costume went well with it.

And that is before we even get to the skating.

They go into 2nd. The livescoring hasn't updated, so I don't know exactly how far behind they are. But, given that the Estonians are only 1.32 behind the Ukrainian leaders, it can't be much.

All of which makes for an exciting Free Skate

CaroLiza_fan

Ah, that's what's wrong. I was expecting the second and third resurfacings to be either side of the Junior Men's FS. But they are actually having the second resurfacing after Group 1 of the Junior Men, and the third resurfacing after Group 1 of the Junior Ladies.

I suppose it makes sense in terms of having resurfacings after every 2 groups. But, it seems strange to have a resurfacing in the middle of a segment that only has 8 skaters in it!

Anyway, here we go!
