The one example was used to illustrate just how generous the judges were towards her in general. I don't think the generosity applied only to that one jump. I also don't think she should have been ahead of Madeline in the SP, who was clean with a 3-3. They were generous to Mariah all weekend.
The SP:
Mariah 69.37 (36.06 TES, 33.31 PCS (all 8s))
Madeline: 67.49 (37.12 TES, 30.37 PCS (all 7s))
Madeline is 18 and in her newbie year as a senior skater, and this was her first GP season. She got considerably lower PCS scores than Mariah, who has usually gotten high PCS even when she had a few mistakes. Mariah is 25 and has been competing at the GP since 2015. She was 8th at her first event (SA) but won silver at her 2nd SA in 2016.
Madeline's SP was fine, but her FS was technically lacking compared to Mariah's. Mariah did two flips, one in a sequence with 2a and two lutzes (solo and in combo), one loop and one salchow, and a solo 2a. Madeline did one lutz in combination, one flip-with a step out, a 2s, 3lo solo and 3lo in combination, and a 2a in a 3-jump combo and a solo 2a.
In the FS, Mariah got mostly 3s in GOE, with a few 4s; Madeline got more 1s and 2s and a few 3s. In PCS, Mariah's FS got high 8s (some judges gave her 9s) while Madeline's got high 7s (a few judges gave her 8s).
I have to admit I was puzzled that Madeline smiled throughout her
Madama Butterfly FS. I personally love opera,
MB is one of the most tragic pieces, ending with Butterfly committing suicide. She got her wish that her 'husband' returned to her, but only because he and his American wife had come to take her son back to the US with them. Not much to smile about there.
Anyway, I'm excited to see Amber again. I always have hope for her to get it together.
Amber is going to have to turn in a 200-plus total score again.
