So I've seen multiple people say that Mariah was overscored at Rostelecom but genuinely curious, where exactly would you mark her lower on?

I also feel the number looks high as it is but unless she had uncalled tech issues (I haven't gone through her performances in detail), her GOEs were not super high and her PCS is reasonable (below 70).
Well she put both hands down on the 3S and two judges didn't even give her negative GOE, for one.

Hoping that isabeau only withdrew for strategy, not because of injury.
Nationals would be so much more nail biting and entertaining if they chose the top 3 at the event.

Well there goes my whole reason for wanting to watch it! 🥺 I hope Isabeau is ok and gets plenty of rest. I wonder if she'll still do senior Nats or just go for Juniors?

Well given the whole varient issue hopefully that is the source and her parents don't want her traveling to a foreign country with that going on (I have heard some nightmare stories of people getting trapped overseas due to lockdowns and closed borders, etc).
Hopefully she's not injured or if she is its minor and they are being cautious

Fair enough. Let's give her -3 across the board for that instead. It only makes a difference of 0.8 points though.
The one example was used to illustrate just how generous the judges were towards her in general. I don't think the generosity applied only to that one jump. I also don't think she should have been ahead of Madeline in the SP, who was clean with a 3-3. They were generous to Mariah all weekend.

Anyway, I'm excited to see Amber again. I always have hope for her to get it together.

Apparently Isabeau has withdraw from JGPF, presumably with an injury. Such a bummer 😢
😢 i’m so sad!! i was so excited to watch the JGP final because the dynamic of isabeau + lindsay and 4 russians is exciting, this makes it significantly less exciting.

that being said, i hope the injury isn’t too bad. and i hope she takes off all of the time she needs to heal. isabeau is the most exciting part about the next olympic cycle to me and i want to see her healthy and strong as a senior.

I think this shows that Madeline was underscored more than Mariah being over-scored.

I don't think she was overscored.

Judges like her and I can see why they like her in her programs.

I notice there were jumps where she received 1.5ish GOE and one or two with like 0.7 GOE. So it's not like they were blindly throwing GOE at her.

It makes me worried about Alysa though. Judges really don't want to cough up a single decimal point of GOE for her. I still can't understand what's so problematic about her jumps (like from a visual perspective, I'm told they're small etc but they don't look THAT bad) but then again I'm not good at that!

Mariah's SP dress is amazing. All class. It's so attractive and stunning.

All I can say is that Mariah is FAST. That plus the superior skating skills can make an impression.

The SP:
Mariah 69.37 (36.06 TES, 33.31 PCS (all 8s))

Madeline: 67.49 (37.12 TES, 30.37 PCS (all 7s))

Madeline is 18 and in her newbie year as a senior skater, and this was her first GP season. She got considerably lower PCS scores than Mariah, who has usually gotten high PCS even when she had a few mistakes. Mariah is 25 and has been competing at the GP since 2015. She was 8th at her first event (SA) but won silver at her 2nd SA in 2016.

Madeline's SP was fine, but her FS was technically lacking compared to Mariah's. Mariah did two flips, one in a sequence with 2a and two lutzes (solo and in combo), one loop and one salchow, and a solo 2a. Madeline did one lutz in combination, one flip-with a step out, a 2s, 3lo solo and 3lo in combination, and a 2a in a 3-jump combo and a solo 2a.
In the FS, Mariah got mostly 3s in GOE, with a few 4s; Madeline got more 1s and 2s and a few 3s. In PCS, Mariah's FS got high 8s (some judges gave her 9s) while Madeline's got high 7s (a few judges gave her 8s).

I have to admit I was puzzled that Madeline smiled throughout her Madama Butterfly FS. I personally love opera, MB is one of the most tragic pieces, ending with Butterfly committing suicide. She got her wish that her 'husband' returned to her, but only because he and his American wife had come to take her son back to the US with them. Not much to smile about there.
Anyway, I'm excited to see Amber again. I always have hope for her to get it together.
Amber is going to have to turn in a 200-plus total score again.

Amber seemed injured at NHK. I hope she doesn't feel she needs to compete through injury because that's not a wise long-term strategy. However, I wish her the best. Hopefully, she overcomes her nerves and gets level 4s on all elements.

About the overscored comment, indeed Mariah was a bit overscored in TES. However, Alysa's highest score this season was also the result of overscoring at Lombardia.Karen was quite overscored and had some URs not called at Finlandia which was the one competition in which she got a 200+ score this season. Overscoring thus can't be used as an argument against Mariah. The only ones not being overscored in competition are Lindsay and Amber. Lindsay because she is a new senior and Amber because she has no reputation in her side. ( And even Amber had an UR ignored at SA)

Edit: sad about Isabeau. I think she has the best set of programs among any international women's skater this year. ( Or tied with Wakaba)

Exactly how was Alysa overscored? Her triple Axel and 3Lz+3T were both fairly called underrotated. So what else did they miss?

When I saw that Isabeau was not entered in the JGPF, I was worried that she didn't qualify. I guess she pulled out of the event and I can't imagine that's something that was planned. Has there been a report from her team as to why she won't be there?

Well, except that her selections (Butterfly’s Act I entrance, the love duet with Pinkerton, poking fun at her rejected suitor Yamadori, Un bel di) are the joyous and / or lighthearted parts of the opera. What makes it a tragedy is that she was happy before she was betrayed.

I also don't think half these skaters have seen the operas they skate to, or even know the complete stories.
