2021-22 Japanese Nationals: Women's FS

Hanna YOSHIDA I love her dress, it is unique.
"Planet Ocean Suite: Underwater — I Come from the Ocean — Coral Tree" by Angèle Dubeau, La Pietà
thanks... yes it was eyecatching and made me curious

and Yoshida is in the lead

Good job to Yoshida. She is the first skater to surpass 70 in the technical score and also, her 3A attempt, was close and looked as easy as a double.

Interesting to note, that unlike in Russia, the Junior skaters in Japan seem to be stuck skating as Juniors till 17/18. Skaters like Yoshida, who is 16, can’t move up to Seniors because they are unable to surpass the 20+ year olds like Kaori, Wakaba, Satoko and Mai.

Time for group 3. There are four Juniors in this group. Maybe, one can breakthrough. I think Rion has the most potential, as she came 2nd in a Junior despite a few mistakes. But, she stood out in terms of PCS. I heard she is attempting a 4T. Good luck to her. Also, Watanabe is in this group and she won her Sectional, so she is in my watch list. I want her to breakthrough this year.

Both Satoko and Wakaba competed in seniors internationally at 15. So it depends on how strong is a current senior group. And how strong are junior contenders :)

Ready for the last two groups! I made myself some hot cocoa (with coffee added because without caffeine there is no way I'm staying awake through the Russian women)
Braver human than I. Really want to watch Russian Pairs, but I don't think I will make it that long. I fear Santa has already flagged me as naughty for staying up all hours to watch figure skating. But I am so happy to be able to watch I have been given enough presents.

Rika also made the podium as a junior and began skating as a Senior as soon as she was age eligible. You don't have to wait if you are better than the top contenders. Although, you might if like Mana the JF doesn't like you.

I am here and fully prepared to stress cry in the final group!

Mako had a lot of iffy/under-rotated jumps but I liked her Memoirs of a Geisha program anyway. At least it's a warhorse with nice music.
