The Ranking Competition determines 4CC entries and is half the criteria for Olympic and National Team selections.
Olympic entries are decided by combining the results of the Ranking Competition and Nationals. South Korea has quotas for 2 women, 2 men, and 1 ice dance team.
NT members are decided by combining the results of the Ranking Competition and Nationals. The main team consists of 9 women, 5 men and 2 ice dance teams, the reserve team 9 women and 3 men.
As always the distinction between seniors and juniors is domestic, i.e. not taking age into account.

All skaters advance to the FS.

BTW, if you want to have some fun, go to Post 11 of this link from labgoat and watch some of your fav skaters.

I am planning to watch the competition at Mokdong, but I have never attended a figure skating event in Korea, so I hope it’s okay to ask a few questions to those who are familiar with how things usually work.

So far, I haven’t seen any info on whether the event is ticketed or free entry. The only announcement I have found is about audience entry times and banner placement. Since we’re just over a week away, would it be reasonable to assume that it’s free entry? If it is free entry, I suppose audience leave and re-enter freely?

I’m also curious about etiquette regarding seat-saving. Is it acceptable to place an item on the seat to indicate it’s taken? I’ll be attending alone, so it could be tricky if I need to use the restroom or grab a quick bite (I’m assuming eating isn’t allowed in the stands) and then return to find my seat gone. At the same time, I don’t want to do anything inappropriate or frowned upon.

Would appreciate any insights from those who have attended the event previously. Thank you!

I would PM Ichat. You could watch some of the old vids labgoat posted and see if there are any clues about eating. I dont know but I would assume an old coat left on a chair would save it for you.

Going to try and find out which Korean station will show what when. All math is self inflicted.

My apologies. this is for nats....
What we know so far...Thanks to SYWTWFS

Youtube: The KSU will livestream the entire junior competition and part of the seniors on the Figure Korea Youtube channel. Streams are not geoblocked. The later groups of senior men and women might be excluded due to the KBS broadcast.

KBS: KBS will air the later groups of the senior men’s and women’s competitions. . Schedule in KST:

1/4: Men & Women’s SP 15:10 (KBS2)
1/5: Men & Women’s FS 15:30 (KBS1)
All videos will be archived on Youtube and the KSU’s Naver blog. On demand

Hi All - was anyone able to get an answer on these questions around attending the event live? I also happen to be coincidentally in Korea & would like to attend if possible. Thank you for your help!

I hope Ichat comes on line and answers your questions. Those of us who love Korea and Korean skaters would be interested in any impressions you may have of the event and Korea.

Ichat is here, and to clear one thing up for @CoyoteChris : the SYWTWFS post is about Nationals and not the Ranking Competition, as you can see the dates listed are 1/4-5 and not 11/29-30. A lot of foreign fans confuse the two but they are different competitions, one analogy I'd make is it's like how in artistic gymnastics has two days of AA competition during US nationals. The Ranking Competition is day 1 and Nationals are day 2, but instead of days we have whole competitions.
Regarding livestreams, I'm 99% sure that the whole thing will be streamed live on the KSU's YT channel Figure Korea, and I promise to post the links on the OP ASAP so please be patient.

And for @FSotoko and @magicmaker28, here are my answers:
- Entrance is free, and you can leave and return to the rink as many times as you want.
- Keeping seats is not frowned upon at all, in fact many of us (including myself) will do it for bathroom breaks or such.
- You can eat in the stands, but standard etiquette is that the food shouldn't bother other audience members. For instance, you can have an energy bar or a PBJ sandwich but you can't have a corndog or instant ramen.

If you have any other questions please PM me, I'm not on GS as often as I used to be and I don't get emails for comments on threads while for PMs I do.

A thousand pardons....I have been dealing with medical issues and am not myself.

Thanks to Ichat. Due to the time shift, I may have to split things up but oh well....The main thing is that this is available.....I made score sheets but ran out of steam in putting down how they all did last year and who moved up....
