US Olympic Team Announced

And did Polina win any medal of significance internationally after the 4CC win?
Why does that even matter? USA wouldn't have been any better off only investing in Gold, Wagner, and Nagasu. Polina was at least going for triple-triple combinations which Bell and Chen have always struggled with. And Tennell wasn't ready to be a senior in 2014 even though she's older than Polina.

Update - Worlds and 4CCs selections for Men now announced:

Worlds
Nathan Chen, Ilia Malinin,* and Vincent Zhou

*Pending minimum tech score

Alternates
1 Jason Brown
2 Camden Pulkinen
3 Jimmy Ma

Four Continents
Tomoki Hiwatashi, Jimmy Ma, and Camden Pulkinen

Alternate
1 Ryan Dunk

which they have done before ;) so why not this time :) A guy scoring over 300 points not going to the Olympic games is uncanny to say the least.

The Yankees with Babe Ruth had many mega stars on that team..

Why wouldn't the US want a chance to sweep the medals... Have 3 medals in the men's..

I don't think the USA would sweep the medals... They would need the Japanese team to stay home for that to happen...However, considering how many men can score over 300, and leaving one at home.. that's not something I would personally do...

What kind of criteria are they using to justify sending zero-time GPF and Worlds medalist Jason Brown over someone that could actually do a proper men's level program? He will have gone to 3 Olympics and you'd think he has the accomplishments to back this all up. Of course not! The guy of course was just filling space all these years because US never had anyone else outside of Nathan or Vincent. Now they have a very good prospect and they still send the guy whose never done anything noteworthy in all these international championships. We all know right now he's never going to be on that podium. Why still persist with this pass it, stagnant and low level athlete.

I don't get the selection of Brown over Malinin, and I don't have much to add in addition to the points others have made already. The USFSA has no interest in supporting future talent. Ilya scored ~10 points higher at Nationals than Jason ever has. Unless Jason is slated to do the team event with Nathan, I don't see any point to send a skater who cannot medal nor can use the experience to build on for the future. I hope Ilya chooses to skate for a country that is willing to give him opportunities that he earns instead of making him wait in line behind skaters who are near retirement and don't have competitive technical content.

It’s bewildering.

But at least Malinin was slotted for Worlds, so a modicum of foresight and common sense there…

not sure about I would call this common sense... :) more like putting a small band aid on a huge cut.
Ah, but it is the beginning vs the dead-end like after the initial shocking announcement. I still can’t believe they did it… but… Americans, I guess? 🤷‍♀️ It could have been worse.

They have never had as clear cut selection process as this year at all. Nathan was priority group 1. Vincent was priority group 2. Jason and Ilia were both Priority Group 3.

Now mind you I think USFS painted itself in a corner and may change their selection process going forward.

I’m very confused by Tomoki but ok.

I hope the bandaid comes off at Worlds gushes on the US Fed...Its highly unlikely Jason podiums or possibly even finishes top 5 at the Olympics without significant help from implosions. Then Ilya goes to Worlds - Worlds is likely to be without some of the heavy hitters, especially if there is still a super contagious virus going around. - What if Malinina goes to Worlds does really well, medals or possibly wins (which winning is probably a stretch for him because his PCS won't be super high)....Then the US Fed is going to really look like major idiots bypassing their national silver medalist for the pewter medalist who doesn't have a stable quad to the Olympics.

But, previously they hadn't clearly written down their selection criteria in black and white and made it available for everyone to read. The skaters knew the criteria, the fans knew the selection criteria. That criteria made Nathan and Vincent locks. It made Jason almost a lock because the most important selection criteria were Worlds, GP final, and Nationals. He was clearly ahead in two out of those three things. I believe in following the rules you set down. Failing to do so is wrong.

Well, we will all be regaled by Brown’s attempt to land his second quad. Maybe he will achieve two quads. That’s what Olympics is for! The historic moments like that.
