Jason Brown

Also Vincent. NBC Olympics insta story seems to show plane departing from gate so either we have a lot of silent skaters or the people who are postulating a second flight in a few days are right.
There are two planes in all those Team Departure photos. One is in the hangar and you see athletes boarding that. The second plane is on the tarmac. It may have already been boarded? But a video of one of those planes moving on the tarmac is backing up. The plane in the hangar was facing nose forward. So there may be 2 planes in use? It does appear that whenever those videos were taken, at least one and possibly two large planes have taken off for Beijing. One interior shot shows nice compartment seats for the athletes. I hope they publicize the way the planes are configured. It would be fun to know.

I’m not sure about that! I guess we’ll know in a few days. Nathan’s agent did confirm he flew out today, and he didn’t post anything saying he was leaving. So we will just have to wait and see about Jason.

If Jason is true to form, he'll post after he arrives. I did see the photo of Vince. He was headed to that second plane on the Tarmac. I think today was Team USA departure day and that there are no other flights. One Bobsledder was unable to fly with the team because of a positive covid test. As far as has been reported, everyone else is fine. It's an 18 hour flight on average. So they will be arriving sometime tomorrow morning maybe noon. Apparently there are many Olympic Villages depending on what sports venue the athlete competes at. Skating is within city limits I think. The mountain snow sports are about an hour away. There may be limits on social media interaction once they get there.

The practice schedule has been posted. Men start on the 1st. Team Practice has been posted but Team USA has not named the team. If Jason says he'll be arriving on the 31st, that seems reasonable. How he's getting there is unknown. Mariah posting yesterday that they leave in 4 days is the 29th. Maybe that's when Team USA leaves. Who knows? At some point, they will get there. Dates and times can change quickly in this sort of situation. And for security reasons, they may not want precise schedules floating around.
But whhhhy back to Canada just to fly back to LA? Why not go straight from where he was with Rohene? Seems like a lot of unnecesary travel!

But looks like he’s on his way! Everything crossed 🤞🏻
Tracy probably needed to be get home and prepare for the Olympics too. She may not have planned the trip to Chicago After Nashville. Lucky for Jason’s parents. Brian has been in Italy.

I wondered where Brian was. Yuzu is in Japan and I guess Junwhan went back to Korea? I'm sure that Tracy had not planned to stay in Chicago after Nats. But clearly she did stay. I assume that she's on the plane with Jason.

Well, the article I linked to said that only about 100 out of the 224 Team USA athletes departed on the flight today and the remaining athletes would go on later flights.

I think the plane lands in Korea for refueling in about 5 hours? So maybe we’ll get some info then. 😊

So, to stop us from worrying about Jason's flights....

Has everyone seen the mug shot that is being used for Jason's official Olympic photo?

It's difficult to make Jason look this bad, that is an art form.
It sorta looks like the result you get from using a passport photo app on your phone. (If you have a white refrigerator, you can use that as a background). It could be the athletes used the app to save being exposed to people's germs in the stores that normally take standard passport/visa/official photos. Speaking from experience, you have to take a lot of pictures until you finally settle on one that's the least horrendous.

I can't believe that the USA would send all their athletes at once from LA, just seems like a logistical headache. Staggered seems like it would work better, but what do I know? Most of my guesses have been wrong.

I hope the movie selection on the plane stays the same, evidently Miracle was offered on this flight.

And it's Jason's favorite movie. :)

Good choice of films!

Here's an in depth article from Delta about the special Team US only chartered flight:

Here's an in depth article from Delta about the special Team US only chartered flight:

It’s actually kind of maddening. It talks about the “first-ever all-Team USA chartered flight” and the March flight for Paralympians but doesn’t say that it will do additional flights for the members of Team USA who didn’t get on this flight. Which makes me wonder how Jason, Mariah, et al will be getting to Beijing. Will they fly commercial carriers?

It seems pretty stupid for Delta to go to all the expense of special uniforms etc for two round trip flights, one in February and one in March.

Madison Hubbell posted an instastory about 3 hrs ago where she said they were getting ready for their second flight - Zurich to Beijing - so I'm guessing they won't be getting in anytime soon.

It's good publicity. The article does say that 200 athletes are flying on this charter. It's one charter, but I think there are two planes. I expect that Jason and Mariah et al are on one of these planes. The rules are pretty clear. The teams are to arrive via charter and leave via charter. No hanging around after the games. There is no reason to think that any of the Figure Skating team got left behind.

Junwhan was in Italy and won 4 Continents. I’m sure Brian is leaving from there to go to the Olympics. So exciting. Everyone is really jazzed about the upcoming days.

We’ll see, but it actually says “more than 200 athletes, coaches and trainers” and doesn’t mention a second plane. I don’t pretend to be an expert, though, so you may be right. 😊 Hopefully we’ll get news soon.

I think there is a second flight leaving out of LA on the 29th... Mariah Bell posted on instagram on the 25th that she was leaving in "4 days" and the NBC article here https://tinyurl.com/yc3b3hdb mentions that more athletes will be on later flights. If the previous article where Jason mentions arriving in Beijing on the 31st was right, a flight on the 29th makes sense.
That very well may be the case and makes sense. The information has been conflicting. But I anticipate that we'll get a post from Jason either when he leaves or when he arrives. That probably means that the team competition skaters will be Nathan and Vince (no surprise) Karen and maybe Alysa, Alexa and Brandon and the two Maddies. I think they all left yesterday. We will see!

There is a second flight tomorrow Jan 29th departing from LAX around 3pm-ish.

ETA: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/DAL8871 scroll down for upcoming flights.

Thank you for your sleuthing(y). This makes more sense: a second chartered plane leaving later. That way Delta only needs to paint one plane.

Now let's see if Jason lets us know that he is on it
