They knew, right? That's why they forbade everyone from talking to the press!
When did that start, I don't recall? Right from the beginning of the Games, or later?

I can't help but wonder if that's also why they didn't sub anyone in; so fewer athletes would be tainted by the incoming scandal?

So potentially, [offending athlete] still gets to compete in their individual event, gets a medal there, then gets stripped of that medal days or weeks later?
Sucks for the other top finishers who might be deprived of their Olympic moment... :frown:
not necessarily... offending athlete may be withdrawn before the event.

Inside The Games is pretty much the mouthpiece of the IOC and whatever other global governing board wants to send them press releases. Their bread and butter is usually something like announcing the start of the African continental sambo and judo championships, and not doing deep investigative journalism or spreading rumors.

I would like to swear but don't wan to get myself in trouble here. I have my issues with 'the system' for the Russian girls but well Kamila has the potential to be a once in a generation athlete solely training on coffee/tea and toast and her team should not mess that up either intentionally or through sloppiness in taking the wrong painkiller or cold medicine without reading the label right.

Sports.ru seems to run with Insidethegames' version. I'm getting worried....

The punishment that will be applied to Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva , if she is guilty of an anti-doping rule violation, may be mitigated due to the age of the athlete.
The figure skater has not reached the age of 16, therefore she falls into the category of “protected persons”.
Earlier, Inside the Games reported that the reason for the postponement of the medal ceremony of the figure skating team tournament of the 2022 Olympics in Beijing was Valieva's doping test.
According to the portal, several legal groups are currently working on the case. When making a decision, the subject of close attention will be the role played by the environment of the athlete.
It is expected that a decision on Valieva will be made tomorrow.
It seems that Kamila Valieva is doping - what is known about this? Because of this, the commander's award was postponed. Online

Tour de France. When L. Armstrong was stripped of his victories, there was just no winner.
(because all the cyclists who had finished in the second place had been convinced of doping as well in the meantime, though not during the same competitions).
professional sport and olympics... very different

Why drugs that don't enhance the performance are banned?

Diuretics, which might otherwise be a favorite of athletes in sports where there is pressure to stay as light and lean as possible, are banned because they are a 'masking agent'- if someone wants to use a steroid, taking a diuretic after the steroid will flush evidence of the first drug from their system more quickly and really reduce the odds that the drug would be detected in one of those random drug tests that a cyclist or swimmer or sprint runner might have to take 5-6 times a year.

Well if it truly is Valieva, then surely she couldn't have taken anything without her coaches knowing. How would a 15 year old even get her hands on PEDs.

But still no official confirmation, so...

I don't know if you guys follow much nordic skiing, but Therese Johaug, a gold medalist in Beijing, was tested positive some years ago. The reason was told to be lip balm. She was banned for competitions for 13 months.

There will be no official confirmation if it's Valieva. She's a minor.
