Team medals delayed by legal issue

Yes, the raises the question will her Europeans title be vacated and Shcherbakova be named the Europeans champ?
Let me just say...I'm a fan Valieva. I am a fan of all 3 Russian ladies. I don't wish this on any of these skaters...but with them being from the same club and all, how do we know Scherbakova or Trusova won't have such issues too? Like how far are we going to go down the line to name a Euros champ? Then there's the issue of the current "Olympics" if you can still call them that. Now whoever gets on the podium will forever have huge asterisks next to their win. This event is so cursed it's more sad then funny at this point. China and the IOC screwed up for even going ahead with the games in the first place. The Russian federation screwed up if they knew this was a possible problem. Team Eteri screwed up if they knew or worse, were complicit. In the end it's just the athletes, and not just the Russian ones, who suffer. Such will be the lasting legacy of Beijing 2022 in perpetuity.

A skater as talented as Valieva will be forever tainted with this now… she won’t be remembered as much for her talent but for the scandal. I hope whoever had her take this gets a karma retribution. Can this impact Anna/Sasha competing? Can they be banned too? 😢

If they have clean tests, no but as Valieva is a minor i think her coaches could be banned.

The good thing for those 2 is they have been put through the ringer mentally for years so hopefully this doesn't affect them.

Allegedly, Kamila has been suspended.

Google translation:

Kamila Valieva will be suspended from the individual tournament.

⚡️The results of the team tournament will be reviewed.

As it became known, Kamila Valieva, who is suspected of violating anti-doping rules, will be suspended from the competition and not allowed to the individual singles tournament.

However, the final decision on the term of punishment (or even acquittal) can be made after the end of the Games in Beijing, as happened four years ago with curler Alexander Krushelnitsky and bobsledder Nadezhda Sergeyeva.

At the same time, the ROC team is almost guaranteed to be deprived of gold medals in the team tournament. At the moment, the IOC is under serious pressure on this matter, part of which is the publication of confidential information on the British portal Inside the Games.

they all have to test after they podium in a competition so if they have no positive tests then they should be fine and as they are over 16 they would not be protected (though Valieva's name was outed so she wasn't protected) so i doubt there is a problem with them. Except for the fact that people will forever question them because of her positive test because they are coached the same team

The Russians seems to love giving athletes preventatives for cardiological problems. Remember that drug that began with an "M" that was later banned and Plushenko said they gave it to the athletes for their heart.
Preventing cardio problems is not why the atbletes are given these drugs. They allow the heart to recover faster, meaning the ability to train harder, more frequently, etc. In other words, it enhances performance. But in the longer run, healthy people given drugs meant to be used in heart disease patients, is unwise and maybe has longer term consequences to their future health. Seems such a desperate method to procure athletic medals... especially to a supremely talented athlete that doesn't need any unnatural help.
If these allegations are true about Valieva, I would be 100% sure that kid didn't do this on her own.

They're saying the substance is trimetazidine.

I'm baffled how this has all been handled. The test where the drug was found is said to have been taken in December. Surely they would not have let Kamila go on the plane if they knew this was over her head? I find it weird how this was caught right at just the last second.

AFAIK, the ROC is not under a 'death penalty' situation where they've been told that one more doping positive would trigger a ban so the other skaters should be good to go with an expectation that any 'random' drug testing during their remaining time in Beijing will not be truly random.

I'm remembering the East German athletes later talking about 'we worked so hard and gave up so much to be the best athletes we could be and we'll never get to know how good we really were without 'the vitamins'" and feeling angry on Kamila's behalf.

This story is escalating rapidly on twitter now . I hope Valieva is getting good psychological support must be so tough for her. I simply don’t know how she will be able to compete now with the fallout from this story
The Russian twitter bots are out making all kinds of allegations. This is meant to confuse people. If rumors are discounted then no one knows what the truth is anymore. Look for tweets that are verifiably by reliable sources. I saw some tweets claiming to be NBC which obviously are not. There are many tweets I would not dare click on right now.

Yeah. That's the perfect timing for a big scandal. All big media are focused on olys.
And so unfair. If we assume all rumors are true, other skaters could have competed. Liza for example. Did they really get the test results just now...?
